It’s Good To Be King

Alternate title: The Emperor Has No Clothes

National Post- Mark Carney’s not really supposed to be doing anything

Mark Carney may now be Canada’s 24th prime minister, but the unique circumstances of his appointment mean that he technically shouldn’t be allowed to do anything.

No appointments. No new spending or taxes. No foreign policy commitments. Nothing at all that isn’t “routine,” “non-controversial” and “reversible.”

It’s all part of the “caretaker convention,” a longstanding parliamentary tradition which holds that until a prime minister is able to “command the confidence of the House of Commons,” he’s not allowed to wield the full powers of his office.

In fact, he’s not supposed to do almost any of the things Canadians typically associate with their prime minister.

Both Sask Party and NDP are saying the same on steel

Today Pipeline Online is publishing in-depth stories from the NDP and Sask Party on last week’s steel tariffs from President Donald Trump. Both parties produced remarkably similar calls to action. Steel is critical for oil infrastructure and production, especially with regards to pipelines. Most of the major pipelines built in Western Canada saw their pipe come out of Regina, but it’s been some time since that mill has produced any pipeline pipe. And now, steel production itself is under threat of tariffs.

NDP on steel tariffs: Pipelines, rail and power transmission

Sask Party on steel tariffs: ports, pipes and rail

The photos you’ll see in the stories are from an exclusive tour I took of the mill in 2009. It was nearly impossible for me to get that access back then, so I haven’t asked for it since. And really, not much will have changed, other than the fact the pipe-making side of the mill has been dormant for a long time now. I’m hearing that workers on the pipe side are or have scattered to the winds. While I’m not certain of that, if true means institutional knowledge to make that pipe is being lost by the day. It’s a live question if we could bring it back into full production of a quality pipe product in a reasonable time?

Consider this – both the Alberta and Saskatchewan governments have made it policy to seek to double their respective oil production. To do so means we would need to effectively double the entire network of Enbridge, Keystone, Express, and Trans Mountain Pipelines. And that’s only for oil – never mind gas. There’s nowhere else in western Canada that can produce that pipe of that scale. We would need to run EVRAZ 24/7/365 at max capacity to accomplish that, and it would likely take decades. We can’t afford to lose it. Because if we do, we’d probably need to bring in pipe from China or possibly Mexico. Seriously.

Monday On Turtle Island

King Carney’s Canada:  No fighter jets for you!  Carney is Trudeau 2.0  Islamophobia running rampant in Canada.  A dictator punishes his rivals.

Woke America:  The deep state strikes back.  Victor Davis Hanson – Trump and the economy.

Odds And Ends:  Coming soon to Carney’s Canada – Fascist Britain.    Great moments in socialism.  Shakespeare to be decolonized.  Ramadan in Germany.

Your morning meme.   A cartoon.

A Synonym For Spite

On schoolgirls being compelled to undress in front of cross-dressing boys, and wokeness as a mask for other motives:

“You wicked girls will undress in front of this weird, cross-dressing boy, and you will do it over and over again.”

I paraphrase, of course. Though not, I think, wildly.

Readers are invited to ponder the psychology in play at this terribly progressive school. The triumphal righteousness of compelling thirteen-year-old schoolgirls to undress in front of a mentally ill male or opportunist pervert. A mentally ill male or opportunist pervert that the schoolgirls do not trust. Resulting in the girls feeling frightened and upset.

Imagine that tingle of power. All wrapped in a drag of modish piety.

Oh, there’s more.

NYT- Always The Last to Know

New York Times- We Were Badly Misled About the Event That Changed Our Lives

Yet in 2020, when people started speculating that a laboratory accident might have been the spark that started the Covid-19 pandemic, they were treated like kooks and cranks. Many public health officials and prominent scientists dismissed the idea as a conspiracy theory, insisting that the virus had emerged from animals in a seafood market in Wuhan, China.

A Carney Con?

Sun- Carney’s carbon tax ‘cut:’ Nothing more than smoke and mirrors

Here’s the truth: Carney didn’t repeal the carbon tax. He didn’t scrap the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act, which is the legislation that gives the federal government the power to impose and raise the carbon tax whenever they want. All he did was press pause. The infrastructure is still in place. The federal government still holds the power to reinstate the tax at any time — and raise it to whatever level suits their political needs.

Even the CBC panel isn’t buying it.

Want to know how unhinged and Stupid Comrade Eby is? His petty tyrant ways have just put the BC Cruise ship tourist industry in peril.

Thousand of jobs, hundreds of businesses potentially affected, by the removal of Alaska Bound cruise ships. All just to spite a minimum amount of Alaska bound transport trucks, 1% of all freight. Freight gets to Alaska almost exclusively by Air or Sea. And, there are existing treaties that exclude the land route from any tolls.

Of course, when confronted, Eby deflects. This is what idiots do when they’ve been caught in their lies. The Jones Act is an antiquated relic of centuries gone by. The Jones Act was suspended during Covid. It was just *SNAP*, that easy to suspend it. Cruise ships didn’t stop in Van or Vic during that time.

Clearly, Comrade DDDave wasn’t paying attention and didn’t learn anything. His ideological blinders prevent rational thought.

Don’t think the Americans won’t do it. Vancouver would weather it, Victoria would be devastated by the loss. Approximately 300 ships stop in each city annually. That’s a huge amount of restaurant meals, cab rides, hotel stays, bus tours, Butchart visits, etc. LOST. Tons of jobs, Tons of tax revenue LOST. All for the spite of taxing a few truckers, in violation of a decades long treaty for land access to Alaska. If challenged in court, no doubt, it would be found Eby has no jurisdiction to impose. Meanwhile, we know how the court system works, got 5 years to prove your point?

Of course, the other point is Reciprocal action.

Has Comrade Eby considered the massive volume of Canadian bound trucks crossing the border? Ever consider if they were all charged the same levy on them? Oh, the howling and screaming from Comrade Eby and his minions!

He is not a smart person, but, I hope he follows through anyways. Burning it down will be a spectacular Crash and Burn. Self-imposed destruction!
Sooner or later, the US will tire of the pettiness of minions like Dave, poking the bear. A momentous SMACKDOWN will be the result.

Blubber Dug was the first example. He looked and sounded like a wounded puppy after meeting with Lutnick. Knobs like Eby, won’t get a meeting. The response will be escalated, far beyond the Blubber Dug treatment. Canada got one chance to get the message, and Eby wants to ignore it. Maybe turning off the Cherry Pt pipeline to Van, Vic and YVR for demonstration purposes? Say, shut it down for 7 days. To make a point. Is Eby that thick?
