    1. Save your breath, this site has decided that surrendering to Trump and toiling for his oligarchs is the only acceptable path for our country. It’s foolish and egotistical to think you can singlehandedly undo years of extremely sophisticated propaganda.

      1. And yet here you are.

Here’s something for you to chew on. By pretty much any measure of wealth or productivity, Canadians are doing about 2/3 as well as Americans. If you flip the fraction, it sounds even worse: Americans are doing 50% better than Canadians.

If you were a Canadian, wouldn’t you look at that and say to yourself, you know, I’d kind of like to have that kind of prosperity too. Except, according to the polls you wouldn’t. Apparently Canadians are so anti-American they’re not only unwilling to consider union with the United States, they’re also unwilling to consider tighter economic ties or even “American-style” policies.

This was true before Trump. You can say plenty of bad things about him, but the basic calculus hasn’t changed. (What has changed is that last year it was OK to occasionally mention that the Canadian situation was not so great, whereas this year it is anathema.)

And you’re complaining about propaganda. Canadians get anti-American propaganda in their schools, in their media, in their politics and their sports and pretty much anything else, from the moment they understand anything more than “mama” and “dada”. Hating America – and Americans – has become part of the Canadian identity, inasmuch as there is one.

Canada has been doing a poor job for Canadians for decades. It has the occasional upward blip due to high oil prices or whatever, but the overall pattern is clear: Canada does not deliver for Canadians. So what good is it? Why should Canadians remain committed to the institution of Canada as is, as opposed to exploring alternatives?

        1. Слишком очевидно, товарищ, в следующий раз будь тоньше.

        2. I have been hearing for at least 50 years that we were diversifying our trading interests. I heard Stephen Harper speak and he was very proud of negotiating a large number of trade agreements. It has not proven to be very effective.
I have some thoughts on the current trade war. While tariffs are not good for the sellers, it is the end consumer who pays the higher price. So the tarrifs applied in Canada will be paid by Canadians unless you believe no tariffed U.S. products will be sold in Canada.
I would compare the current policy of the first moves to respond by going to war with your best customer to getting into a fist fight and blocking with your face. In particular ,one who can hit you 10 times for every one of your hits. Sure to be a winning strategy.
Every response we have been making has been based on fear , emotion and ulterior motives, with the exception of Daniel Smith. We have a lot of made in Canada issues that are totally within our proverb to fix. We need much better.

          1. And by the way ,the silence is deafening on the Chinese 100% tarrif on Canola , a huge kick in the nards to Western Canadian farmers.

    2. Nothing wrong with it at all, except the Euros are whiny children like us, demanding some kind of special treatment, no good deals to be had from them, and we come from a position of weakness given the distance to market and the hellish shipping infrastructure here. Let’s go for only half as prosperous as Americans, this will help.

    3. Then don’t b—- when the Progs bury everything this country ever was of substance – everything ………..
      But you’ll be at peace.
I always thought fiscal conservatives where the more intelligent ones- full of reason instead of emotion tying them to something deeper – a belief…….
Then you see the slope and the effects.
And you realize money in the strangest sense is the root of all evil.
It’s just a human thing but there are other human things too , saying enough when there is a real price to pay.
Trumps all in if you like him or not …….. he has his neck sticking out and the elite will do anything to cut it off.
Anything ….. and that doesn’t even make a fiscal conservative twitch.
      And it makes me wonder.

      1. That is because emotions are what rules people, even fiscal conservatives, who, much like the marxists, have made one fatal error: money, while important, isn’t the only thing that drives the world.
Barzini wrote about this in a book: The Europeans. While in many ways he was a supporter of the EU experiment (at the time of the writing, just getting off the ground), he was highly skeptic, for that very reason.

        And now we see it.
Why do you think the President keeps repeating that the Canadians could keep their flag and their anthem? This isn’t just about money, and he knows it. Your leaders, like the EU leaders, don’t.

    4. Go for it! Stop all Trade with the US. That’ll show US.
Here’s where, ordinarily, I’d add a *snicker* … but I’m too nice, and I like Canadians too much to do that

  1. Von Der Leyen is not to be trusted. None of the EU elites are to be trusted because they are all full on WEF idiots.

    1. Which reminds me I have an unfinished kindle book entitled The Rotten Heart of Europe. Off the top of my head, Bernard Connolly?

      Sophisticated Europe is so 1960s.

  2. Do these new transatlantic business opportunities include LNG contracts?

    Asking for a friend(ly province).

    1. He was selected by the Laurentian Elite, to further their interests, and that is all you need to know plebe. My fondest wish is to see the plebes rise up, throw off the yoke, and then I want BLOOD.

    2. Oh if he gets a minority he will be in heaven ………
He will feed Singh anything he can.
And cheating well … they as so close to a job well done.
Carligula (the perfect name) doesn’t care about anything other then being stopped by the likes of Trump.
Europe’s like falling in love with a woman that’s a good lay but a severe drunk.
A shiny anchor, and the bottom is a b—-.

  3. Excellent . Two unelected elitists deciding what happens to the people who never voted for them. let me know how this works out.

  4. Wait!? Aren’t global warmists supposed to trade LOCALLY? Just think of all the fossil fuels and Co2 tonnage spewed to ship goods back and forth to Europe? Oh well … cap and trade just means the plebes of Canada will have to pay higher carbon taxes to offset the “pollution”. Right?

Oh Canada! MAID has become your way of life. What does it mean to be a Canadian? That you’re not afraid to kill yourselves?

    1. You know… Come to think of it, the majority of supporters of MAiD are Lieberal.
      This could work.

    2. From Alaska all the way down to Argentina, the Americas should be working on robust north-south trade and building all the industries needed to make our hemisphere great and unencumbered by Eurotrash dying countries and the Asia(s) and the crap they sell us.

  5. Who remembers all the bureaucratic steps involved in the first enactment of CETA? I seem to recall it took over 10 years to finalize that single Trade Treaty. EU farmers were pissed because Canadian agri-products dipped into their till. Italy outright declined it. French Communist party used it as a way to show relevance and purposely stalled it. They were afraid to throw it to the French Senate for a vote because they were sure it would be declined, and have to go through the entire process once again. Most EU countries didn’t like that such an new Trade agreement would add to the Climate Change woes (how? Hell if I know). The EU members were, also, pissed that it wasn’t a “Mirror” agreement which would apply the same regulations and stipulations on Canada that they had to adhere to.

I understand why Canada is exploring this avenue. It makes sense to try and team up with the EU to weaken the US. But, the EU is the bureaucracy to end all bureaucracies. I wouldn’t expect anything to happen in the near future. Too many opinions, egos, and pockets to bypass.

  6. L. – A Trade Agreement with the European Union, whose political elite are in the process of
committing economic, political and cultural suicide, is enrolling in the same madness. This is
simply a formalization in Justin Trudeau’s dream of Canada as a post nation-state, a failed state.
Such are the delusions of the Mass Formation Psychosis of Utopian Socialists.

The hubris of left brain hemisphere dominant intellectuals have been building one Tower of
Babel after another throughout human history. It is a history written in blood and unmitigated suffering.

It’s either that or rekindle the spirit of “Is this the Canada, carved out of the wilderness by men
and women of uncommon valour?” As our American cousins are striving to accomplish against
    great odds.

Drink the W.E.F. Kool-Aid or choose the adventure of a heroic generation, one requiring self-discipline, sacrifice and transcendent goals?

    * “Geography is destiny” On which continent does offer us opportunity, a fighting chance?

  7. That would be the same EU that just nullified the results of a Romanian election because they didn’t like who won, right?

Are you certain Carney was only discussing trade with Europe’s top tyrant?

  8. I’m telling you guys, Monroe doctrine 2.0 is on its way, the US will not allow this marriage. This could very possibly become a stand off that Canada will never win. Anyone wanting to become a useful idiot of the WEF, go right ahead.
WHO is the big dog on levers of power in the Ukraine war, the EU is not a super power.

  9. All I see is two bureaucrats, not elected by the people, discussing an agenda behind closed doors. I doubt any backroom deal will be strictly about diversifying trade. I suspect it will include a deeper and increased integration of policies like net zero and illegal immigration. Since Carney is a Canadian of convenience, I also doubt he has any ethical qualms about selling out Canada and certain provinces.. As someone on social media posted…Carney isn’t a Canadian leader visiting Europe, he is a European bureaucrat visiting Canada to further European interests.

One scenario: Instead of provinces like Alberta subsidizing other Canadian provinces, Canadian provinces will be subsidizing European countries. While Europeans look down on natural resource extraction and its carbon footprint, they’ll cash any and all checks that derive from that resource extraction while simultaneously passing legislation that hobbles those industries. It should be named the Quebec economic model.

  10. Does this that Carney will get us a great deal where the more resources we send to the EU, the lower the Carbon tariffs on European escargot?

  11. I remember when Trudeau senior decided that trade with the Europeans was preferable to trade with the Americans (which gave Canada the metric system). Didn’t work out the way he planned it, and for the same reason mentioned earlier: proximity matters.

We are inextricably linked to the USA, and nothing will ever change that.

  12. The Carney is all about “Emissions Reduction”..
So what the hell is it promoting cross Atlantic trade for?
How is that going to save the planet?

As if the “European Union” is going to embrace trade with Canada, they can barely agree to trade amongst themselves..
Actually Liberal Canada would be right at home with such an arrangement, they would feel right at home,as if they never left “Confederated Can Ahh Duh”.
If Western Canada Separated, the number one export to the EU,would be sanctuary seeking Liberal Parasites.

Speaking of such, does Carney still have his French Mansion?

  13. I see Carnage has an election he would like to win.. With an EU pipe dream :).. Seeing as we make land locked oil and gas and expensive Quebec cheese.. What exactly will we be selling them?..

  14. FILTHY LIBERALS
are no match for this fine group of like minded people in the comments.
I am so impressed and inspired by how many younger people and former FILTHY LIBERALS have had an awakening to this Hell we call Canada, and the vast corruption throughout EVERY Institution.
I read all of the comments, even KM the FILTHY LIBERAL.
    Cheers !
    Fight Fight Fight!!!
