    1. I saw that a few days ago, C… I was considering posting it with you in mind, but thought better of it, and decided not to.
I was wondering when you would pick that up.
But yeah… Meat grinders was a little tacky, to understate it.

    1. Robert … The Guess Who are the BEST! Here’s my wife’s choice … Share the Land. Stick around for Randy Bachman’s lead solo at 1:53 and the whole band harmony at the end … dead on at a live performance. And what can be said about Burton Cummings? Solidly in my top 10 rock vocalists of all time.

Love the Maple Leaf covering his piano. And my Canadian friends … let’s share the land and share FAIR trade. We are all brothers … whether you want to disavow all Americans or not. Make Canada Great Again just as we are Making America Great Again.

      1. Paul McCartney said Burton Cummings has one of the greatest voices in RnR. No argument from me.

Cummings still is still active. He was in Alberta recently doing the casino circuit. He lives in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan.

        1. I think that is one of the greatest covers ever, which of course doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t be shot for it. It radiates malicious glee in a way that’s frankly hard to do on a record.

        1. Reader – love those. And since I posted my wife’s favorite … I’ll post mine:

The Archie’s had a massive hit with Sugar-Sugar … so why not write a suite about Sugar, Love, and Mother Nature doing what she does to us in our youthful, reproductive years. Hahaha ha … the dancing/singing girls in the crowd agree.

          1. The Biker confrontation on the streets of my beloved Berzerkeley? Yeah. Awesome inspiration. “No Sugar for YOU tonite!” … women are just BORN with knowledge of the power they have over our red headed friend.

    1. Sounds like the perfect time for Canadians to start paying-up their NATO commitment … so more Ukranians will die for nothing. In a war they cannot win.

          1. You’re a moron who things “sounds like it [insert irrelevant bullshit]” is a clever format to troll. That is Loopie level of clever.

          2. Gentlemen… Please!
@Kenji: Yes, history may prove you correct (still to be determined), but the intent behind your statement is rather obvious.

          3. So … Canada’s standard of living is collapsing … despite your nation failing to pay their financial commitment to NATO. But your leadership “talks” tough and berates Trump for dressing-down (sorry) Zelensky in the White House. Your PM says he’s all-in on supporting Ukraine. So … what does that mean? Higher taxes so your country can actually make good on their “commitment” to the proxy war against Putin, the radical hetero? Hence a further cratering of your standard of living.

There … Did I connect the dots adequate for your understanding?

          4. I am sure all those dots connect in your head in manner that you can understand and make perfect sense to you. Usually it is a sign that you’re wrong though.

      1. Indeed when they reach mid 40s they will be able to afford a down payment on a 30 year loan for their first townhouse (if they’re lucky). We have the last chance to turn this country around or become a Euro shithole.

  1. Despite the title, I don’t think that’s 1970. Midnight Special (not Bandstand) didn’t debut until 72. Burton didn’t cut his hair and grow the Stash until about 73.
And, of course, no Bachman, his signature song with TGW. One of many.
He left because he was a Mormon, and the rest of the band partied like it was 1999.

    1. To be replaced by a carbon levy the day after he wins the next federal election (if he wins).

      1. Worse than that. The carbon tax can only be repealed by parliament until then it is the law of the land. Besides, they are celebrating repealing the law that they themselves have imposed and that they claimed was revenue neutral and benefited majority of Canadians.

  2. The Brutal Financial Facts.
Like it or not, the US cannot infinitely continue to be the military and financial guard dog for Western civilization. (In light of the socialist policies implemented in Western Europe, I don’t anyway see a lot there worth guarding).
Given this reality, Canadians should consider the annexation offer a compliment.

    1. A couple of months ago I jokingly (well, half-jokingly) said that the liberal leadership of Canada will eventually throw their hands up and make serious overtures to join the European Union (despite the EU’s bylaws saying non-European countries are not eligible). The only other alternative is to deep six all the climate change costs, remove liberal wish lists from the budget, stop serving as an assembly services for foreign governments who wanted to pass their products off as Canadian, and return to an economy of heavy industry.

I can’t see a majority of Canadians pursuing the latter. But, I can envision a majority pursuing the former. The status quo is unsustainable. The Canadian dollar will hold half it’s current value in less than a year if nothing is done. The EU path is likely not what you think it is. In addition to all the new rules, regulations and restructuring of your laws….they would rape your resources and expect you to thank them for it.

  3. Kenji is almost as annoying as unme at this point.

Go sound off on an American blog if Canada sucks so much already

    1. Kenji is not only correct but also the most entertaining commenter here. I say MORE KENJI!

Also, Canada and Europe will have to spend more on their military, because at this point a significant majority of Americans are no longer willing to continue with another 80 years of subsidizing their defense.

        1. “I vote for MORE KENJI. Kind of like MORE COW BELL.”

Likewise. One of the more thoughtful posters here.

(and more entertaining than most, too…)

    2. You gotta be a Liberal/NDP clown.

Free speech here, with some minor controls on violence and insults. (got to be minor, see some of the sh!t above)

Kenji is mostly accurate in describing Canada shortfalls and our doofus gov’t. Don’t like it, don’t read it. (What I do for most of the sh!t above. Scroll wheel gets a workout here.) Has some great music posts too, from my generation plus some.

Go find a padded safe space if you don’t like it here.

      1. You forgot to mention Kenji’s Canadian daughter(?) and grandkid, Grumps.

Though US himself, Kenji does have a dog in the fight.

        1. I think it is his son-in-law who is Canuck, if I recall correctly.
Nice to see people coming to Kenji’s defense, although he can handle himself.
And, yes, I enjoy his musical memories, many of which I share (being the same age).
          Yo, Kenji!

          1. I couldn’t remember exactly, stevie, but Kenji does have a personal stake in Canada. You’re probably recalling his background better than I am. Thanks.

    3. Stuff it! There’s no comparison.
Friend Kenji is insightful, funny, and gives us that California perspective without being a commie twit. Speaking of commie twits, there’s the Dunme troll/sock puppet.

      MOAR Kenji

    4. Yes, but the Pavlovian reaction of the howler brigade to your post is hilarious.
      “More Kenji!”
“More “Putin, the radical hetero” that is a great insight”
“Kenji says something that even we can understand”

  4. On the origins of “American Woman”.

Per Bachman, “I didn’t have a spare guitar. I didn’t have a tuner. I didn’t have a roadie … Not having a tuner, we would tune to the electric piano every night … I started to play that riff on stage, and I look at the audience, who are now milling about and talking amongst themselves. And all their heads snapped back. Suddenly I realize I’m playing a riff I don’t want to forget, and I have to keep playing it.” Bachman called his band members back onto the stage and a “jam session” broke out as bassist Jim Kale and drummer Garry Peterson provided the rhythm section. Bachman told vocalist Burton Cummings to sing over the music and “the first words out of his mouth were, “American woman, stay away from me.”

    1. Isn’t that the definition of non-profit? Take so much money out in management fees that there isn’t enough money left to run a program – let alone make a profit. Unlike the Red Cross …

  5. Performing “American Woman” on “American Bandstand” is like laying an American Beauty rose on a slab of American cheese.

  6. When the Guess Who played at the the White House Nancy Reagan asked them to not play American Woman. Too controversial.

  7. President Donald J. Trump announced today that the Kennedy papers, 80k pages unredacted and not blacked out, will be released tomorrow.
The headlines may say “JFK” papers, but Trump clearly said “Kennedy” so I’d expect RFK papers too, as promised to RFK Jr. … and no word yet on the MLK papers.

I saw it on a FB blip from Charlie Kirk, who phoned in sick today on his show… This should be in the regular news tomorrow, no linky link from me on this.
