Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

UMMM
Yeah, no, that ain’t gonna work.
Canada will be lucky to ever get to touch one much less build one.
Maybe they can buy instead some of the nifty Typhoons or Eurofighters or some such from the EU?
That would be hilarious.
Why not restart the Arrow? Everyone keeps saying that the Arrow would still beat anything in the air today. Elbows up!
Beat me to it lol
I’m sure it would do as well as the Century Fighters in Modern air combat. I am surprised that it hasn’t shown up in one of the War Thunder games yet though.

Time to dust off those Avro Arrow plans! /sarc
The all-new Canadian fighter jet, named the FU-35 Turdeaupuncher, will be purpose-built in Quebec.
It will feature twin turbojet engines; one in the front, the other in the rear.
Armament includes eight “Hands-out” air-to-surface missiles and one 30mm Manpon cannon.
Mid-air refueling only available over Alberta.
painted black with two tit grabbers in front.
and a seat made from an old poma lift disk
Brilliant, Caltoo!
A little context. From yesterday’s Howard Lutnick interview:
“We put a tariff on steel and aluminum to make sure the dumping countries of the world stop and we can build up our steel and aluminum in America. And what does Canada do? They put a tariff on sports equipment,” he said in an interview with Bloomberg. “I mean really? This is just tone deaf.”
Lutnick lambasted Canada because he said it “feeds” off the U.S. and relies on it for protection while contributing relatively little to NATO. In 2024, Canada contributed about $30.5 billion, or about 1.37% of its GDP, to the military alliance, compared to the $967 billion, or 3.38% of GDP, the U.S. contributed.

I included the latter paragraph because it sets up the absolute fact that Canada has no intention of building any planes. Essentially, they are just cancelling a contract that would have improved their military capability. This is just a continuation of the same behavior. I’m starting to think that good fences make good neighbors if you get my drift.
They are cancelling the contract to take a second loss on the same plane… Canada may still be using the CF-18s until the BUFFs actually retire in 2050
Can’t. The CF-18s are at their maximum life for their fuselages. They’re done. So it’s get a new fighter-interceptor or do without. In which case, Canada fails its NORAD obligations.
mebbe do like the submarines, nibble away at a repair bill
dwarfing the purchase price?
When the Avro Arrow was being developed and built in Canada, Canada’s gov’t was spending in excess of 4% of GDP on the military budget. Canada struggles to spend 1.6% now, typically closer to 1.2 to 1.4% and has no military expertise applicable to flying Gen 5 aircraft, the military brass (NOT the people who’ve signed up to actually do the fighting) failed to source sufficient sleeping bags for their members during this past winter, and the ship building contracts appear to be suited for whichever war Canada finds itself in, in about 2035, keeping in mind that they have insufficient icebreakers for the sea passages they’ve always claimed as “Canada’s North”, and the submarine contract has been talked about for a couple of years, with nothing signed, no decision on the horizon.
Which is exactly what I expect from tier 2 Canada, and the idiots, THE IDIOTS, in Ottawa, our open sore of a federal capital with an unelected PM, unelected head of state, unelected Senate, unelected judiciary, welfare dependent MSM reporting on these issues, and mediocracy all around the civil service and at every level of federal governance oversight.
We are wallowing in idiocy, in every direction.
If Canada were to abandon the F-35 program, knowing that the American military spent more than a decade developing it, and with a near unlimited budget, I would expect military spending of 4% of GDP starting from 2025, to complete near useless Gen 4 fighter jets, possibly in 2050 to 2060, and whichever next generation’s wars Canada is involved in to be over by then, possibly over by a decade past.
And because the NDP will be leading the charge, making the decisions on which we will all depend upon, the entirety of this military spending will be farmed out to exclusively union shops, so the likelihood of it being of acceptable quality will approach zero. They’ll all be shot out of the sky, taken to unionised hospitals, where the survivors will lay on gurneys in the hallways for 2 weeks prior to dying, still in the clothing they were brought into the hospitals with.
Zero.
To be clear, they had enough sleeping bags, but the arctic sleeping bags didn’t provide the same amount of warmth as the bags that they replace, and for some reason weren’t even “winter” qualified.
Marc a point of interest —a member of our family is a pilot and he says F35 would not be good for Canada because of only 1 jet motor! The F-18 type are more suited to the Arctic because if you have a burn out you can get back on the second jet!
I’m sure our military Brass are on top of this!
Good points you have made!
The purpose of the second engine is to get you to the site of the crash.
This is a myth the left keeps pushing. There are a number of back-up built in to the engine making carrying a second one a waist of space. Something that is no good for a small aircraft. All space is valuable
Have a burn out Wayne and a F35 is dead ! Just what you need if you are patrolling the Canadian Arctic.
Just saying!
TWO jet engines!? Redundantly burning planet killing fossil fuels!? Sanctioned by the Canadian government!? Ohhhhhhhhhh Mommmaaaaaaa! Your newest PM-ino would never allow it!
I’d prefer to have 2 engines if I was distant from base or far north, and 2 different types of jets as well for the country at large, for example Gen 5 F-35’s and the Gen 4 Saabs for simple patrols as well as to mix up a defence too. I don’t think the USA uses the F-22 for patrols… but building any of these in Canada with leadership like Canada’s NDP or #Libranos calling the shots is a non-starter, as well as with the current military budget here.
There was an interesting story of an F-15 with Israel’s IDF, they’d had 1/2 a wing shot off and the pilot was still able to make it back to base, a testament to the F-15 and 2 engines…
Like Carnage and his worldview, will the Liberals propose a fighter that is already obsolete?
He’s stupider than Juthtin FFS.
Maybe Jagmeat’s Do Rag is on too tight.
SUBMARINES!
LMAO
It took a decade to buy Sig 320s!
My sides hurt.
India builds its own fighter jets and submarines, as does Sweden.
Denmark, with only 6 million people, has 70 F-16s and 8 F-35s.
Canada can’t even get it together enough to keep our F-18s airworthy, and what other countries call “procurement”, Canada calls “graft.”
We are well into 3rd world shithole territory.
Parts of them are made here right now, but with a new clown in charge who’s immediately turning out to be worse than the last clown, that’s gonna change.
We already have a modern military.. Its called universal healthcare..
Maybe we can get some jets on loan from China. Wait, that was probably Carnage’s plan all along.
Oh FF Sake, here we go again. The Gripen fanboys are going to come out of the woodwork. We will be regaled about the tales of the mythical Arrow. We’ll get sermons about drones and how drones can do anything better. Singh might look like a conehead, but is he seriously that stupid?
Yes.
regarding the Arrow, there were 2 diametrically opposite opinions.
one side claimed ‘meh’ no big deal, its going to be a missile conflict
no place for these ‘run-of-the-mill winged relics’.
so nothing special about them. according to some.
but according to others all the prototypes, plans, models, blueprints every vestige had to be destroyed because wait for it ‘cant let that get in the hands of the rooshins’.
?
well why not if its a no big deal cant we keep a souvenir? and if it IS something the rooshins would love to get their hands on . . . . . . . . . .
WHY IS EVERYTHING BEING CUT UP AND BURNED instead of proceeding with development and make a fortune selling them to other nations????????
contradiction skuttler. contradiction.
No contradictions, just filthy politics. And before we blame the Americans, I’d like to point out Canadians can be just stupid enough to have done it for our own internal reasons.
Doing “questionable” things to ourselves for “internal reasons” is why we are now Bananada … and might’ve always been that, just with less open sores sitting in Ottawa.
Well, we still make water bombers and twin otters………..
https://dehavilland.com/
they could build it with solar panels on top and wind turbines for engines…perfect Canadian made solution!!!!
Remember: a camel is just a horse designed by the Canadian government.
But at least the camel performs certain useful functions as well as horses. A horse designed by the Canadian government would be more like the fabled unicorn, good on paper but never to see the light of day.
I imagine that whatever Canada came up with, on it’s own, it would be shot down within minutes, by an F35, if the F35 could fly that slow.
Beavers and Twin Otters aren’t that fast.
Well, Canada has been carpet bombing Los Angeles for quite a while, mostly unopposed by the Americans……
I mean, I guess they could take theirs apart and try to reverse engineer them. Should get you a half-working aircraft right around the time the US, China, and Russia roll out the 6th gen and new ground sensors that make the F-35 irrelevant.
