Want to know how unhinged and Stupid Comrade Eby is? His petty tyrant ways have just put the BC Cruise ship tourist industry in peril.
Thousand of jobs, hundreds of businesses potentially affected, by the removal of Alaska Bound cruise ships. All just to spite a minimum amount of Alaska bound transport trucks, 1% of all freight. Freight gets to Alaska almost exclusively by Air or Sea. And, there are existing treaties that exclude the land route from any tolls.
Of course, when confronted, Eby deflects. This is what idiots do when they’ve been caught in their lies. The Jones Act is an antiquated relic of centuries gone by. The Jones Act was suspended during Covid. It was just *SNAP*, that easy to suspend it. Cruise ships didn’t stop in Van or Vic during that time.
Clearly, Comrade DDDave wasn’t paying attention and didn’t learn anything. His ideological blinders prevent rational thought.
Don’t think the Americans won’t do it. Vancouver would weather it, Victoria would be devastated by the loss. Approximately 300 ships stop in each city annually. That’s a huge amount of restaurant meals, cab rides, hotel stays, bus tours, Butchart visits, etc. LOST. Tons of jobs, Tons of tax revenue LOST. All for the spite of taxing a few truckers, in violation of a decades long treaty for land access to Alaska. If challenged in court, no doubt, it would be found Eby has no jurisdiction to impose. Meanwhile, we know how the court system works, got 5 years to prove your point?
Of course, the other point is Reciprocal action.
Has Comrade Eby considered the massive volume of Canadian bound trucks crossing the border? Ever consider if they were all charged the same levy on them? Oh, the howling and screaming from Comrade Eby and his minions!

Cruise ships are a million USD shot into the economies of Vancouver and Victoria. Here in Victoria even a short pause would finish what’s left of downtown.

Only my unimportant opinion but it seems like most of Canada’s politicians are idiots.
The people get the politicians they deserve. Canadians are, and have been for a long time, a coddled, ignorant, unserious people who have lost all understanding of the sources of our prosperity. We have indulged in luxury and fantasy beliefs and have no concept that things can go horribly, totally, even irreparably wrong by over indulging in said beliefs.
I am unsure if Trump & his administration are truly serious about slapping some sense into this country, but if they are, and they choose to do so, the tears of shock, outrage and pain that will wail from this country of emotional toddlers will be epic.

Americans are no different. They figured they could move all their jobs to China and stay a rich country. Now they are on the verge of war with China and can barely build ships anymore.
There’s some truth to that; however I think that’s less a result of an ignorant people and more of a result of a very wealthy financial elite intentionally exfiltrating wealth & production out of the USA to their own benefit, buying off the politicians, regulators, lobbyists, etc. along the way. A subset of Americans have been trying to fight this at least as far back as the late 2000s with the starting of the Tea Party movement (one could even argue the Ross Perot candidacy in 1992 was an early manifestation), but were subverted by the elites & politicians at every turn. The Trump elections are rare successes of the people giving the finger to the elites and attempting to regain control, albeit obviously with mixed success (at best) thus far.
There is no such comparable movement in play in Canada. The PPC is the only thing that looks like it bears a resemblance to it but it’s a pale imitation and unable to gain any traction.
We’re all idiots. Americans have suddenly decided that they don’t like Canadians so they are going to put massive new taxes on Americans to show those evil Canadians, and in retaliation Canadian politicians are going to put massive new taxes on Canadians. Americans and Canadians are both too stupid to realize that they are going to pay huge new taxes and the only ones who are going to be better off are the politicians with a richer till to rob.
Americans don’t hate Canadians.
Americans aren’t booing the anthem at sports events. Vancouver louts and boors do.
In fact, this dispute (not a w-r) barely registers on their radar.

Most Americans, when they even think about Canada (oops, sorry about that), used to think of you as our kindly northern neighbors, kinda like us but nicer mostly and definitely it’s colder up there. But that bit about arresting all the truckers? That kinda hit home, and we’re not so sure about you now, especially with the new bit about arresting people for what they might say and all that healthcare through suicide. We really don’t like that kinda thing.
Now you’ve got those people who are sorta like our Governors (who we ignore if they’re in different states anyway), who want to pick fights with us. First we don’t have a clue who they are, and second we don’t care. So cut off the electricity and close down the road, so what? We have more electricity from other states, and plenty of ships. And we can always drink our own booze!
But don’t be surprised when the rolled up newspaper hits you on the nose, and we start treating Canada like Mexico, a not so friendly neighbor. And for anyone actually believing that we want Canada as the 51st state – not a chance, don’t need more welfare looneys! But sure is fun trolling your politicians and media! Now Alberta though, we might be interested in talking to them, and maybe that other one that starts with an S and has lots of letters in its name… not a big deal either way though.

Trump puts tariffs on some of Canada’s export industries, thus the government of Canada and the various provinces expect that the best way to “get” Trump is to punish Canadians with higher tariffs on US imports, or even removing them from the market thus insuring that Canadians are poorer.
From things I’ve read I get the impression that most Canadians don’t realize that when the Canadian government puts tariffs on US imports that it is they who are paying it. I assume Americans think the same or far fewer of them would be cheering it on.
I don’t know why so many people are so keen to let government decide who they can trade with and under what terms. We should all be able to decide those things on our own.

New numbers show BC Hydro imported a record amount of electricity over the last 12 months.
According to documents filed with the B.C. Utilities Commission, BC Hydro imported 13,600 gigawatt hours of electricity in fiscal year 2024, at a cost of nearly $1.4 billion.
“It’s very disturbing that British Columbia’s now relying on 25 per cent of our electricity to come from outside the province,” Barry Penner with the Energy Futures Institute told Global News.
I live in Victoria and I hope the Americans stop all cruise ships, shut off gas shipments and destroy us totally. Vancouver and Victoria idiots voted for Eby and deserve it. I’ll survive just fine but the rest of them won’t.
