Our Little Secret

More educators titillated by the prospect of deceiving parents:

Teachers are also warned not to congratulate parents on their child’s performance in a school play. Why this humdrum politeness should be avoided, with the threat of disciplinary consequences, is not entirely obvious and no hints are offered as to the reasoning. It is, however, framed as equal in sinfulness to informing a parent that their child has been “snorting a white powder.”

Because if little Billy is chopping them out in class, it’s now a teacher’s duty to keep parents in the dark, you see.

Oh, there’s more.

Sun- Wendy’s bold dynamic pricing move

The recent announcement by Wendy’s in the United States that it will adopt dynamic pricing during busy hours marks a significant moment in the food industry. This public declaration is unusual in a sector where price changes are often made discreetly. Wendy’s is essentially advising its customers to visit during quieter hours to save money, which could be perceived as an inconvenience. It’s akin to transforming its operations into a stock exchange, where customers are encouraged to ‘buy low and avoid buying high.’

Update:  And so it begins…

We are living in 1979 on the way to 1984

NDP MP Charlie Angus wants to shut down all oil and gas advertising.

In a move that would effectively destroy media like Pipeline Online, EnergyNow.ca, BOE Report, Daily Oil Bulletin and more, Timmins-James Bay NDP MP Charlie Angus on Feb. 6 proposed eliminating all advertising from oil and gas firms. “It is prohibited for a person to promote a fossil fuel, a fossil fuel-related brand element or the production of a fossil fuel except as authorized by the provisions of this Act or of the regulations,” the private members bill, which was just introduced and is not law, says.

Note, this was clearly endorsed by the national party and leader. There’s even a donation collection at the bottom of the press release.

Fines in the million dollar range, jail up to two years. This is what the NDP want of Canada. And I would be going to jail.

David Clinton- Terms and Conditions: How Canadian Banks Override Their Customers’ Property Rights

Even if their best years might now lie behind them, the Big Five still consistently produce multi-billion dollar profits. And they’re pretty good at protecting your money from crime.

But will they, as institutions, necessarily treat you fairly? Based on the contents of their customer agreement contracts, it seems that’ll depend entirely on how they feel on a given day.

New Rules

Sorry guys, we didn’t make the new rules. But those are the new rules.

They Don’t Make Them Like They Used To

Serve and protect now means serve the coffee and protect the donuts?

Toronto Star- Toronto police union says protest cops deserved more support after coffee delivery blowback

In a memo to members obtained by the Star, the police union wrote that the officers in question, who it said were working in service of “keeping the peace,” have been unfairly portrayed as “ineffectual and negligent in their duties.”

Western Journal;

[South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftis] announced that South Carolina will divest $105 million worth of Disney debt securities due to concerns over the company’s leadership and its embrace of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles.

Loftis said Disney has abandoned its fiduciary duty to shareholders in favor of ESG, which he defined as a “speech and behavior code that was … created by the left and delivered to everybody else.

“The sane, sober, talented, mature people are gone, and now you have the gender studies crowd running Disney,” Loftis said, “That’s why their movies are flops and their market cap, I think, is about half what it used to be. It’s a tremendous loss to America — we all grew up on Disney,” he added.

Loftis pointed to poor box office performance for Disney films and the 50 percent drop in Disney’s stock price from all-time highs in 2021 as evidence of flailing leadership.

Housing Micromanagement

I often wonder if conservative parties are all that different from their opposition. Witholding federal funding in order to browbeat civic governments into changing their housing policies to meet arbitrary targets sounds a lot like central planning. You could just drop federal housing subsidies altogether, repeal federal building codes and put an end to zero percent interest rates, but someone clearly thinks that this won’t buy enough votes.

Require big, unaffordable cities to build more homes and speed up the rate at which they build homes every year to meet our housing targets. Cities must increase the number of homes built by 15% each year and then 15% on top of the previous target every single year (it compounds). If targets are missed, cities will have to catch up in the following years and build even more homes, or a percentage of their federal funding will be withheld, equivalent to the percentage they missed their target by.
