Justin Trudeau was slapped down by Downing Street today after claiming Britain is facing a ‘very serious third wave’ – with critics accusing him of a desperate attempt to deflect criticism over his own country’s sluggish vaccine rollout and surging infections.

The Canadian premier referred to the UK’s hugely successful drive, which has 60 per cent of the population given jabs compared to just 20 per cent in Canada, as he sought to justify keeping tough restrictions.

‘Vaccinations on their own are not enough to keep us safe,’ he told MPs in the country’s parliament.

‘We know for example that the UK is ahead of just about everybody else on vaccination and yet they maintain very strong restrictions and are facing a very serious third wave.’

But Tories accused Mr Trudeau of ‘fake news’, telling MailOnline he should ‘butt out’ and focus on his own problems. Scientists tracking the spread of the virus also rubbished the Canadian premier’s comments, insisting the UK is in a ‘stable’ position.

I’m surprised they heard about it. Nobody listens to him.

The plan is a major shift in policy, as the party has previously threatened to scrap the program introduced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2018.
 
Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole announced the climate policy Thursday morning, saying “Canadians cannot afford Trudeau’s carbon tax.”

Now Canada’s 18th prime minister is calling on Canadians to embrace what he calls “a new national policy” that would commit this country to achieving a population of 100 million by the end of the century.
 
“If we are going to maintain … our internal strength and our growth and our capacity and our outside influence, we need more people – a lot more,” Mr. Mulroney said Tuesday at a forum presented by The Globe and Mail and by Century Initiative, which champions the goal of a Canada that is 100-million strong by 2100.

Finance Minister Barbie: Budgets are hard!

The Liberal government will not release a budget in March as it takes more time to assess the impact of the pandemic, meaning that more than two years will have passed since the last federal budget was released.
 
A senior government official told The Globe and Mail that March has been ruled out as a window for unveiling the budget, which will have to address the unprecedented economic and health crises brought on by the coronavirus.
 
The last time the government presented a budget was on March 19, 2019. A federal website lists budget dates as far back as 1968. During that period, there has never been a gap of more than two years between budgets until now.
 
Ottawa’s decision not to table a budget at any point in 2020 put it out of step with other Group of Seven countries, who all produced budgets last year. The provinces and territories also released budgets in 2020.
 
The minority Parliament in Ottawa did approve the Liberal government’s emergency pandemic measures through a series of votes on spending bills last year, but MPs were never presented with a formal budget.

A man has been charged with sexual assault after an incident last week at a Montreal COVID-19 quarantine hotel.
 
The woman alleging the assault told CTV News that the man came into her room, refused to leave, partially undressed and touched her against her will, only leaving when she threatened to scream.
 
She also said she felt “helpless” at the hotel, where she didn’t expect to end up, and where she was told she wasn’t allowed to disclose her location.

She was askin’ for it: Today @cafreeland said “people shouldn’t travel” when pushed on reports of sexual assault at a federal quarantine facility.

Mandatory minimum sentences are being removed for a long list of offences.

How?

The government put these changes into a bill they described as dealing with systemic racism in Canada’s justice system and making sure that people who make simple mistakes don’t pay for them for the rest of their lives.

Why?

“These are people with health problems. These are single mothers. These are young people who perhaps have made a couple of mistakes,” Justice Minister David Lametti said while introducing his bill.

“It sounds nice and it pulls on the heartstrings, but it’s also a load of BS.
