And The Teddy Goes To…

Your tax dollars at play.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation today held its 23rd annual Teddy Waste Awards ceremony in a special virtual presentation, celebrating the best of the worst in government waste uncovered in the past year. […]

“Former governor general Julie Payette blew hundreds of thousands of dollars on her inauguration and bizarre housing renovations before resigning under a cloud of controversy,” said CTF Federal Director Aaron Wudrick. “And the Quebec government’s remarkable ability to crash ferries into docks has soaked taxpayers for millions.

“Meanwhile, taxpayers in Toronto spent $160,000 to install bike lanes, and then another $80,000 to rip the same lanes out again just five months later. And no one will be surprised that the Phoenix Pay System, after years of being an enormous financial sinkhole, has earned the distinction of a lifetime achievement award.”

      1. The REAL bill hasn’t come due yet … and the principal keeps rising … and the interest keeps piling up. The net result is that our dollars keep getting further and further devalued as our central banks necessarily hold interest rates near zero.

    1. Ha! Try using it when paying for your purchases at a Canadian Tire outlet.

  1. Hands down the winner….
    Drum roll please….
    Our Prime Minister
Justin Trudeau who can make snake oil salesmen proud.
Billions of dollars blown in such a short time.

  2. And let us not forget all that office furniture that was bought for civil servants to sit at home on their asses.

    1. Heh, ‘Liberals’ here and ‘Democrats’ where you are, are the same garbage.

With full respect to the exceptions.

  3. They asked me to submit so my two cents were for the City of Ottawa – OC Transpo continuing full bus service despite the whole fucking city being shutdown and ridership at 20%. There are tumbleweeds blowing downtown but fat assholes gotta keep getting full pay to speed, run red lights and hog the road in empty buses.

    1. Compare that with Edmonton, where our mayor Donnie the Dumbass forced us to wear masks so that people will be encouraged to take transit. So, Donnie, people weren’t taking the buses or the trains because of your continuing ineptitude while pushing your commie agenda.

  4. I’d very much like it if the City of Toronto stopped installing bike lanes, but we know that will never happen… after all turning University avenue from 4-5 lanes in each direction to 2-3 in each direction was a brilliant move on their part continuing the war on the car, and vision zero

    1. Our “genius” of a mayor, Don “Dimwit” Iveson decided several years ago that a major street in my part of the city needed bike lanes.

A year or so later, they were gone. As a cyclist, I never liked the ones in my neighbourhood to begin with as they weren’t continuous. There would be about 100 metres of bike lane and then back into the street, because, well, people have to park there, don’t they?

  5. I imagine the teddies are going to be a much longer ceremony next year.
The $80,000 to tear the bike lanes out was well spent.

      1. Yeah, only people who drive motor vehicles should be allowed to use the roads. Bicycles are just toys, aren’t they?

  6. How many people will know about this? …. I ask
How many will care? ….. I ask again.

You see those here do care and want to do something about stopping this.

Can tell you from experience that the apparatchiks think this is hilarious.
An apparatchik will say, $1 million does not even show on the menu when you deal with billions, ignoring the actual fact that a million here and million there and suddenly you’re talking real money.
Heh, as though a million is pocket change.

Know that for a fact, been told that by a so called ‘Conservative’ apparatchik.

The first problem with the system is that those that actually could make substantial changes will not get their feet wet in the cesspool of the swamp.
They would be buried by the mass media cartel before they even say one sentence. The cartel would check the person’s all the “social media” activity and would divine attacks from the entrails with the ease of a breeze.

It takes a person with a good hold of rhetoric and character to stand up to that. If you ever watched so called ‘journalists’ asking uncomfortable questions of Jordan Peterson you would understand what is involved.

You got to have a rock solid argument and stamina to go at it. There is plenty of that though it has to be employed. It does require a lot of reading and conversation to establish a sound argument.

    1. NO YOU DO NOT!!!! You only have to say “Perhaps they experienced it differently” and all will be well.

  7. The sad truth of it is that most of us in the private sector likely work less than 80 hours a week. Most weeks I only work 50 to 60 hours. We have so much more we could be giving to our overlords if we would only put in another 20 or 30 hours a week. Then we wouldn’t have to force our dear leaders into spending deficits. We just have to work harder to help pay for all their wise spending decisions.
