The first substantive revamp to Manitoba’s sex-ed curriculum in decades includes an emphasis on consent and weaves lessons in from kindergarten to Grade 12, instead of wedging in learning milestones only at specific grades.
Last week, the province released detailed changes it is implementing to phys-ed and health curricula, beginning with a two-year pilot at over 100 schools across Manitoba.
Menstruation and gender identity will be introduced earlier and in age-appropriate ways, and lessons about boundaries and giving, asking and refusing consent will feature prominently.
