Never Let A Pandemic Go To Waste

Can we be finished with these people now?

Canadian military leaders saw the pandemic as a unique opportunity to test out propaganda techniques on an unsuspecting public, a newly released Canadian Forces report concludes.

The federal government never asked for the so-called information operations campaign, nor did cabinet authorize the initiative developed during the COVID-19 pandemic by the Canadian Joint Operations Command, then headed by Lt.-Gen. Mike Rouleau.

But military commanders believed they didn’t need to get approval from higher authorities to develop and proceed with their plan, retired Maj.-Gen. Daniel Gosselin, who was brought in to investigate the scheme, concluded in his report.

[…]

The plan devised by the Canadian Joint Operations Command, also known as CJOC, relied on propaganda techniques similar to those employed during the Afghanistan war. The campaign called for “shaping” and “exploiting” information. CJOC claimed the information operations scheme was needed to head off civil disobedience by Canadians during the coronavirus pandemic and to bolster government messages about the pandemic.

A separate initiative, not linked to the CJOC plan, but overseen by Canadian Forces intelligence officers, culled information from public social media accounts in Ontario. Data was also compiled on peaceful Black Lives Matter gatherings and BLM leaders. Senior military officers claimed that information was needed to ensure the success of Operation Laser, the Canadian Forces mission to help out in long-term care homes hit by COVID-19 and to aid in the distribution of vaccines in some northern communities.

Someone Needs To Say It

It may as well be me.

If the politicians and health officials and faceless bureaucrats across western democracies don’t shake off this mass psychosis and walk back their obscene, insane power grab soon, someone’s going to get hurt. And I don’t mean “thrown to the street by riot police” hurt. I mean School Book Depository window hurt.

There are broken people all around us, people who have nothing to lose. They number in the thousands, yet our untouchable elites seem unaware of how brittle the line can be between quiet desperation and suicidal retaliation. They’re lighting fuses in places they don’t even know exist.

I hope I’m wrong. I won’t be surprised if I’m right.

I Told You So

Well, you can’t say we didn’t warn them.

The PPC had just over five per cent of the popular vote at last count. The party has notably done better in Ontario, where it has so far garnered just under six per cent of the vote.

And its stronger showing might have hurt the Conservatives. According to an analysis by CBC News Labs, vote splitting between the Tories and the PPC may have cost the Conservatives up to 24 ridings. They include a handful in southwestern Ontario, such as Cambridge, St. Catharines and Kitchener South—Hespeler.

The party, which describes itself as populist, classically liberal and libertarian, was founded by Bernier in 2018. It campaigned on lifting many COVID-19 public health restrictions, as well as expanding the oil and gas industry, balancing the budget, ending official multiculturalism, and reducing immigration levels, among other policies.

PPC also ran second in a number of rural prairie ridings.

The shiny new progressive carbon taxing, gun grabbing, Paris accord signing ‘Not your dad’s Conservative party’ lost two seats.

A national journo, in a private email yesterday: Well, you’ve always understood the Conservative base better than the, um, Conservative Party of Canada, so there’s that. 😂

Free advice: When your core argument against a Prime Minister is “Nobody Wanted This Election!”, don’t be surprised when millions of voters interpret that as “There’s no pressing urgency to remove the Liberals from government. Please let them carry on.”

I mean, I didn’t think it was possible to come up with something worse than “Just Not Ready”, but it turns out they could.

Morons.

I have more to say in the comments, in response to LyndaL“Just not ready” was good and entirely appropriate. At this point, it is clear that Justin will never be ready. He holds the office of PM, but fails miserably as a leader.

No, it was stupid. Red hot midday sun on Mercury stupid. The underlying message of “just not ready” was that Trudeau had the core essentials to be Prime Minister, and only lacked experience. That’s a high price to pay to work in a clever word play on the name “Just”in.

These people are morons from top to bottom. When Conservative faithfuls are arguing “we know you aren’t happy with our new progressive leader but we have to stop Trudeau” you’ve LOST THE FUCKING PLOT.

Add this –> 400,000 identified conservative voters in Alberta stayed home last night.

Jonathan Kay: Why the Canadian left believes kooky theories about coded messages to Nazis

This has got to be the first election in the history of any democratic nation in which the incumbent self-describes as the leader of a genocide state. Yet he also tells us he’s done a bang-up job. You’d think the whole ongoing-genocide thing would be a significant campaign issue, right? At least up there with high ATM fees and electric-car tax credits. But it’s not, because everyone involved — Trudeau, in particular — knows that most voters inhabit a reality-based existence. And so they’re going to have little patience with Matrix-like conspiracy theories about Canada being a nordic Rwanda.

You can see how this complete reversal in tone generates cognitive dissonance for partisans. One moment, Canadians are history’s greatest monsters. (It’s been three months since Justin Trudeau ordered Canadian flags lowered, following the discovery of bodies of children who attended residential schools. When asked when he’ll put the flags back up, a spokesperson said Trudeau was waiting for some unspecified Indigenous community to make the decision for him.) Then the writ gets dropped. And suddenly, patriotism comes back into fashion, and we’re told that life in Canada — far from being a white supremacist dystopia — is so awesome that our PM deserves another term.

The Democratic Republic Of Erin O’Toole

With all the smartest people in the room predicting a Trudeau majority, this is our opportunity to burn the Conservative Party to the ground.

Jonas J. Smith announced his candidacy on July 13. He was acclaimed as the Yukon candidate. He ran in the 2019 election and was nearly successful, narrowly losing to Liberal candidate Larry Bagnell by less than one per cent of votes.

The decision to end his candidacy came down from the party’s “central campaign” according to Smith, who said he was informed of the decision early on Aug. 12 — his statement on the end of his candidacy went out late that afternoon. […]

“This comes as shocking news to me, my family, my local campaign team and my thousands of supporters across the territory,” said Smith in his press release. “With an election call imminent, this is devastating news for the conservative movement in the Yukon and I fear will have repercussions across the country.”

Smith said he was told the reason for his disallowment was his “opposition to calls for implementation of mandated workplace vaccinations and vaccine passport requirements in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Federal conservative leader Erin O’Toole has been vague in comments around mandatory vaccination policies, although he has been strident in encouraging vaccination for all Canadians.

Don’t blow it.

It’s not Racist

When Liberals do it.

Indigenous employees were regularly sidelined by a “toxic” working environment in the office of Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett but their complaints fell on deaf ears, several former staffers have told CBC News.

CBC News spoke with more than half-a-dozen Indigenous and non-Indigenous former staffers who worked in Bennett’s office at various points between 2016 and 2020.

You’ll like being Chinese. Really you will.

Twitter posts are “undermining Canada’s democracy,” said Canada’s Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault in a briefing note, who is urging regulation of hurtful comments for “a truly democratic debate.”

Cabinet on June 23 introduced Bill C-36 An Act To Amend The Criminal Code that threatens Facebook, Twitter and YouTube users suspected of posting content that promotes “detestation or vilification” with house arrest or $70,000 fines. The heritage department promised public consultation on the bill, according to Blacklock’s.

“This content steals and damages lives,” wrote staff. “It intimidates and obscures valuable voices, preventing a truly democratic debate.”

“Our objective is to ensure more accountability and transparency from online platforms while respecting the Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms,” said the June 16 briefing note Regulation Of Social Media Platforms. “The mandate of the Department of Canadian Heritage includes the promotion of a greater understanding of human rights.”

The Libranos: Bend Over

Feel the love;

(Federal Liberal) Cabinet yesterday announced $19 million in subsidies for café patios and shrubbery in empty parking lots in Toronto. “This is the love being returned,” said Liberal MP Adam Vaughan (Spadina-Fort York, Ont.). Toronto returned 25 Liberal MPs in the last election with an average 54 percent of the popular vote: ‘It starts with loving Toronto more than you’ve ever loved it before.’

The Urinating Liberal

Is making a heroic comeback.

Amos’ wife, Regina Flores, was at his side at the Chelsea constituency office and made a heartfelt statement of support about his return to work. Amos explained that he had been dealing with the issue by taking a step back to focus on family and surround himself with a team of health professionals to create and implement a comprehensive “wellness plan” to address the “root cause” of these incidents.

“The assessments from my health team suggest that I don’t have any mental health disorder,” Amos said, explaining that his health team consisted of a psychologist, an occupational therapist, a psychotherapist, and a family doctor.

Stunning and brave.
