Myopic Liberals Don’t Really Care About Canada’s Future
Based on the current rules, the math for the Old Age Security (OAS) benefits just doesn’t add up. There are simply too many people in the coming years who will be claiming these benefits and not enough younger workers to support them. So one might think that now might be the right time to alter the rules sufficiently to make the math work again. Not if you’re a Liberal and insanely desperate to get back into power again.

Rae Turns Out to be Least Offensive Lib
The campaign possibilities are endless!
One Simple Question the Liberals Need to Ask Themselves
The National Post’s John Ivison has a pretty balanced summary of the Liberal Party Convention this past weekend. In it was this interesting snippet:
“A party that’s serious about forming the government understands that polls can impede our view of the future. We learned the most important question is not ‘what do people want today?’ but rather ‘what will people need tomorrow?’. The first question speaks to ‘followership’. The second to leadership and people want leadership,” [Dalton McGuinty] said.
A healthy democracy has at least two strong political parties. The NDP seizing power would be far worse for Canada than the Liberals regaining power one day. In that light, if you were a senior Liberal policy advisor sitting around a table and asked to provide one highly important question that the party needed to ask itself to get back in the ring as a serious contender, what would that question be?
The “Party of the Future” Can’t Figure Out How to Vote
Our self-proclaimed betters are having a little problem at their convention: Their wireless electronic voting system has crashed.

Perhaps this is a metaphor for the Liberals in general: Up the Creek Without a Paddle!
Update: Jeffrey Simpson is convinced Bob Rae will become the permanent leader of the Liberals. h/t ‘batb The National Citizens Coalition isn’t so sure this is a good idea for the country.
The Canadian Liberal Party’s “Road to Renewal”
Can the Liberals reinvent themselves … with Sheila Copps or Bob Rae as leader?? Adler chimes in and hilarity ensues!
Never before in history could a pillar of support be more aptly described as a toothpick. Even Coyne isn’t enthusiastic.
Still, some are optimistic that enough hyphenated identity groups can be strung together for another grasp at power! Note: While watching the video at the last link, does this keep running through your head? Could someone encourage Ezra Levant to interview/debate this pair? Please!!!
Update: For those interested in a good laugh, you can follow Kady O’Malley’s live blogging of the 2012 Liberal Convention. Here’s a sampling (read from the bottom) :

Mr. Rae Visits Attawapiskat
The “enlightened” Bob Rae has pressed the flesh up north. And what did he conclude? That more dependency and continued no accountability is what the people of Attawapiskat need. What a cynical, uncaring man he is.
Two quotes of Albert Einstein come to mind:
Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex… It takes a touch of genius – and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.
Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.
Green With Irony
From a friend in Seattle:
Whole Foods says: “Be Green! Buy Local! blah blah blah!”
Whole Foods’ exclusive grocery bag says:

Sex Wars
Call me old fashioned, but I had long thought that the “Male” & “Female” options on the “Sex” question of endless multiple-choice forms kind of nailed down all the possibilities. Apparently thinking in such a “limited” fashion makes me a “sex thug” and thus a close-minded bigot.
Listen to this recent segment from AM 640 radio in Toronto.
Think that ignoring this insanity is the way to dismiss it? Think again. Major changes are occurring in school systems throughout Canada, teaching sexual & gender options to kids as young as 7 years old.
You know, for a long time I never understood why the National Rifle Association (NRA) in America was so adamant about never giving in to one concession. Not one. But now it is crystal clear why. Concede even one point to a militant, radical Left group and it won’t be too long after when they’re demanding another, and another, and another . . . . This is what Mark Steyn aptly calls the “Drip, Drip, Drip” erosion of our society. And he’s right.
It’s Probably Nothing
Q: How do you say ‘Our word, our bond’ in Chinese?
A: You don’t.
A Rae of Sunlight for the Liberals?
Kelly McParland’s editorial on the return of Bob Rae to the Numero Uno position of a political party in Canada is most interesting.
Reading it, the following juxtaposition comes to mind:
Old Parlour Game: Describe what it means to be a Canadian without once mentioning America or American.
New Parlour Game: Describe what it means to be a Liberal in Canada without once mentioning Stephen Harper or the Conservatives.
The Downfall of the Elitist
In a recent posting on SDA, regular commenter ‘ET’ shared some most astute bits of wisdom. This prompted me to engage in an e-mail exchange with her. Out of that came a longer essay of sorts from her, which I am publishing with her permission. The primary editing I did was to put all of it in a more general context:
The two-tiered socialist system is, actually, the most basic sociopolitical system on Earth. It’s essentially tribal, set up to ensure stability. To prevent the disruption of change it moves its authority into an essentially hereditary mode. You have the ‘Anointed’ (upper tier) . . . and the ‘Unanointed’ (the vast majority in the lower tier).
There’s no means of movement between these two groups. One class, the anointed, are deemed by birth, education etc. to be Guardians, Rulers, Wise Men. These ‘Noblesse oblige‘ feel they have a duty and a right to govern the unanointed lesser people.
In days past it would be the tribal elders of one clan that ruled over the other clans. In the feudal period it would be the nobles and the church. The elite prevented the lower class from gaining power; kept them uneducated, dependent on the financial and ‘saviour’ powers of the nobles/church who owned all the means of production (the land), owned all means of hope and salvation from your supposed sins (the church), all knowledge.
Keeping the unanointed peasantry down became difficult only when the population increased beyond the ‘organizing capacity’ of such a two-tiered system. After all, you have to enforce a system where the peasantry can’t become educated, can’t get enough knowledge or fiscal power to control their own lives, can’t own land, aren’t allowed to read, can’t own businesses, etc.
The Liberal Mind Explained
One of Mamet’s favorite books has been Instincts of the Herd in Peace and War, published during the First World War by the British social psychologist Wilfred Trotter, inventor of the term “herd instinct.”
“Trotter says the herd instinct in an animal is stronger even than the preservation of life,” Mamet said. “So I was watching the [2008] debates. My liberal friends would spit at the mention of Sarah Palin’s name. Or they would literally mime the act of vomiting. We’re watching the debates and one of my friends pretends to vomit and says, ‘I have to leave the room.’ I thought, oh my god, this is Trotter! This is the reaction of the herd instinct. When a sheep discovers a wolf in the fold, it vomits to ward off the attacker. It’s a sign that their position in the herd is threatened.”
How much bigger can it grow?
The American government just recorded their largest monthly budget deficit ever, at $223 Billion in February. Neither party seems serious about cutting it.
Is this what it feels like when a car is racing towards the end of a cliff and both the driver and the passenger have their feet on the gas pedal?
Possible New Olympic Event
Rumour has it that Barack Obama is petitioning the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to introduce a new event: The Out of State Dash!
Snapshot of America: The Welfare State vs. Black Families
In an interview with Walter Williams, he describes what must change in order for Black Americans to move forward. Here’s a snippet:
During Reconstruction and up until the 1940s, 75% to 85% of black children lived in two-parent families. Today, more than 70% of black children are born to single women. “The welfare state has done to black Americans what slavery couldn’t do, what Jim Crow couldn’t do, what the harshest racism couldn’t do,” Mr. Williams says. “And that is to destroy the black family.”
The Tucson “Memorial” Service
Here’s a fascinating podcast from Michael Graham, in Boston.
Two memorable quotes from it include “I thought I was in the Twilight Zone” and “Where was the mourning?!”
Einstein Quotes vs. The Modern Leftist Mind
Even though copious amounts of evidence have shown that there is absolutely no connection between the Tucson shooter and conservatives or the Tea Party or Sarah Palin or talk radio, masochistic leftists keep on trying to make them. It’s truly pathetic.
Whenever you read the misguided screeds of these loathsome trolls, remember these prescient quotations from Albert Einstein:
- Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.
- A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be. Information is not knowledge.
- Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.
Or, to paraphrase something Charles Krauthammer recently said: “The origins of Loughner’s delusions are clear: mental illness. What are the origins of the Leftist delusions?”
