    1. Jimmy Carter and the CIA shouldn’t have put the Ayatollahs in charge. Just another example of the US abandoning a firm ally, the Shah. Does the US have any allies left?

      1. If the politicians and MI Complex taking so much of the tax dollars out of the hands of the common people and enrich themselves, why wouldn’t they?

      2. Don’t overlook the roles played by France and the UK in 1979 . Both countries worked deligently to undermine the Shah.

      3. Were the ayatollahs really in charge of Iran? Or was it the IRGC? If you look up many of the top IRGC leaders and their backgrounds, you’ll find some interesting things — like where they went to school.

As for the CIA, well, they as an organization are never completely clean; however, they weren’t acting alone in Iran. There were other interests involved.

      4. I voted for Carter. I know. I know. Because he confessed his Christianity openly and honestly. Only to discover he defended radical terrorist Islam against his own expressed faith.
        Suicidal
        Antipathy

        1. One has to remember that during that period communist elements had infiltrated the Middle East and created what was then called ‘Islamic Socialism’. Carter’s sympathies probably aligned more with the second element than the first.
And of all the ideological blends that have ever come about, I can really think of few that are more toxic than that one.

          1. Well … I guess I should have known … since Jesus was a Socialist. Right? WRONG.

  1. Shamkhani Network — billions of dollars in assets: crypto, real estate, cold hard cash; evading sanctions, dark fleet, and uh the transport of not just oil but licit and illicit goods (like weapons and other things), including dual use goods (like, can be used for weapons).
Countries involved within that network (outside of Iran, of course):
UAE, Russia, China, India, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Dominican Republic, Yemen, Venezuela, Panama, Antigua and Barbuda, Marshall Islands, Switzerland…Italy, Denmark, the UK (whyever are our NATO allies doing involved in THIS?).

  2. Temporarily open the straits by the power of the US military
Permanently bypass the straits isolating Iran and eliminating any leverage they have left.

    Sounds smart to me

    1. You know Iranian drones have a proven range of about 2,000km? That means they can hit anything in the eastern mediterranean. Plus the Iranians have been bombing the infrastructure of their neighbours, making sure it will take months, if not years, before oil and gas production are back to where they were before the war. And, if the Iranians ever think they are about to lose, you can bet that they will try to take out as much of the other gulf states oil and gas infrastructure as possible before they go.

        1. Not at all. The markets price in risk. Right now the markets are betting that Trump won’t risk a total war because of the outcome. Iran is making the same assumption. I’m not sure that the President won’t accept the risk of laying waste to middle eastern oil and gas in order to realize his goal of removing a threat to America.

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens when country’s strategic reserves start running dry.

          1. Define ‘total war’ and then explain to the class why you think this ‘total war’ would even be necessary.

  3. It’s the fractured Iranians’ “leadership” that’s the issue, given there is no one authority to make any deal.

In any event, the mullahs and other scumbags’ survival depends on not losing power, added to their hatred of the Great Satan US and demented desire to destroy Israel, no peace is possible without significant destruction in Iran.

But, their desperation is showing as stupid IRGC/Iranians create more US allies with their ME attacks, playing the old game of uniting the Arab world by attacking it, but that totalitarian train has left the station thanks to the Abraham Accords and US/Israeli show of strength and military systems prowess, with F22s and F35s roaming freely above Iranian skies, achieving air superiority, striking at will, something the Russians’ Felons have failed at in Ukraine.

They only understand brute power, so give it to them with both barrels while somehow enabling Iranians to revolt.

  4. Isn’t the opening of the war with Iran just somebody finally trying out the science fiction question “What if somebody went back in time and took out Adolf”?

Admittedly, this was more like also taking out the next 100 people in the chain of command, but you might never find a more comparable scenario.

  5. I wonder if this wee tiff would be over almost instantly without another shot fired if every vessel was reflagged as an Israeli tanker???

  6. Hey, let’s clear this up. I was chanting “Debt to America!” Surely that’s entirely mainstream and uncontroversial?
