No son.  Vaccine status makes its way into the ugly world of child custody battles.

Illinois mother unvaccinated against COVID-19 stripped of rights to see son, judge rules

An Illinois judge has barred a divorced mother from seeing her 11-year-old son because she isn’t vaccinated against COVID-19.

Rebecca Firlit’s lawyer said the judge, not Firlit’s ex-husband, raised the issue during a recent child support hearing. They have been divorced for seven years and share custody of the boy, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Sunday, in what it called one of the first such rulings of its kind.

Trudeau drops deadline for clean water on all reserves

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau no longer gives a specific date for fulfilling his broken 2015 election promise to end all long-term boil-water advisories on Indigenous reserves and it’s not hard to see why.

There’s been no improvement in the number of reserve water systems that are at medium or high risk of failure since the Liberals took power in 2015.

There were 43% of them at risk in 2015, the same number as in 2019.

Ottawa says 1,250 Canadians and family members still stranded in Afghanistan

Since the fall of Kabul to the Taliban on Aug. 15, there was a panicked rush of Canadian expats and Afghans, who worked for Canada’s military and diplomats, fleeing Afghanistan on rescue flights. Canada completed its last evacuation flight last Thursday and the U.S. pulled its forces out of Kabul airport on Monday.

“Now that we have had a chance to look at the manifests from those other countries, we estimate at the moment there are roughly 1,250 either Canadian citizens, permanent residents or family members that are in Afghanistan,” Mr. Garneau said.

Now we have even more reason to send “foreign aid(ransom money)”.

The Bitter Truth: There’s Still No Rhyme or Reason to COVID-19

Two presidents. Fifty states. One-hundred-and-ninety-five countries. A multitude of different approaches. And still, there’s no rhyme or reason to this pandemic.

Try as you might, you will not find a plausible way of blaming this on that party or region or policy that you hate.

No, you won’t. And there’s plenty of blame to go around.

Israel, which has done everything that the loudest critics on the Left wanted America to do, is nevertheless stuck in the throes of a devastating surge. Israel has instituted repeated and draconian lockdowns (enforced by drone, no less); it has used nationwide mask mandates; it has vaccinated everyone early — and even added booster shots into the mix; and it has even instituted a system of vaccine passports. And, right now? Well, it’s getting crushed. Per NPR, despite becoming “the first country on Earth to fully vaccinate a majority of its citizens against COVID-19,” it now “has one of the world’s highest daily infection rates. . . . Nearly one in every 150 people in Israel today has the virus.” I wonder: Is Israel a Red State or a Blue State?

There’s a few things to quibble about in this piece including some of the things he seems sure about, but the authors basic point is correct. There’s a lot we don’t know. One of the reasons my posts on covid seem schizophrenic is that I’m trying to follow the evidence and the evidence is all over the place. There’s also still a lot of fog to try and sort through, at least half or more of which comes from vested interests pushing personal agendas. As they say, welcome to complex systems.

New mortgages surge to record high, raising red flag about HELOC growth

House-hungry Canadians drove new mortgage volumes up to a quarterly high, soaring 60.2 per cent to more than 410,000 in the second quarter from the year before, according to new data from credit company Equifax Canada.

The size of the average new mortgage loan also jumped by 22.2 per cent from last year to more than $355,000.

While new mortgage growth has been strong in major markets across the country, British Columbia saw the biggest increase, rising 85.7 per cent from last year.

The mortgage surge helped push overall consumer debt to $2.15 trillion, up three per cent from the previous quarter and up 7.5 per cent from the year before.

Vancouver Liberal candidate flipped dozens of homes for profit, records show

The Liberal candidate in the riding of Vancouver Granville has flipped more than 20 properties after less than a year of ownership since 2005, which has critics pointing to contradictions between his actions and the Liberal platform on housing.

According to British Columbia’s assessment records, Taleeb Noormohamed has sold 41 properties since 2005 — 21 of them after less than a year of ownership — making $4.9 million in the process.

The Liberal Party platform on housing, which was released last week, proposes an “anti-flipping tax” on residential properties that will require that such properties be held for at least a year. That means 21 of the properties Noormohamed sold would have been subject to the proposed tax.

h/t to Chris, guess me missed it a few days ago when he pointed it out.

Ideological Capture

“Education is political,” says Ms Myart-Cruz, who boasts of her ability to act with near-impunity, and whose list of Intolerable Things includes cognitive testing, “structural racism,” border controls, policing, and the supposed “privilege” of parents who would like their children to actually learn things, including times tables.

A teachers union president shares her deep wisdom.

Being innumerate is fine, apparently. What matters is “social justice.”
