Globe and Mail- Thousands of foreigners’ criminal convictions forgiven by Ottawa over 11-year span, raising transparency concerns

Foreigners are, in general, inadmissible to Canada if they have been convicted of an act that is considered a criminal offence in this country. But Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has the power to grant an exception if five years have elapsed since a person was convicted or finished a sentence.

IRCC has not, however, released a breakdown of the kind of criminal offences that were forgiven. It said in a statement to The Globe and Mail that the Immigration Minister would be involved in decisions relating to the most serious offences.

National Post- It’s not ‘elbows up’ approach as RCMP renews contracts for American helicopters, industry association says

Trevor Mitchell, chief executive of the Helicopter Association of Canada (HAC), said he was very surprised that the RCMP would sign another contract to lease the American Black Hawks, while Canadian manufacturers offer rival products that can do at least as good a job. “I can’t see how any of this transpires into an elbows-up policy, or a Canada-first policy.”

Ain’t Gonna Happen

Despite all the promises to increase defense spending to not only replace what was shipped off to the Ukraine but to meet the new GDP targets, expect one of two outcomes: either the targets will be perpetually postponed or the definition of “defense spending” will be stretched to include funding for sewage treatment plants and community centers and anything else you might imagine.

In a new analysis released Thursday, the think tank said it expects Canada’s deficit to top $92 billion this fiscal year, given Prime Minister Mark Carney’s plan to meet NATO’s defence spending target of two per cent of GDP.

C.D. Howe expects deficit growth to slow after this year but predicts deficits will still average around $78 billion annually over four years — more than double the level forecast by the parliamentary budget officer before the spring federal election.

We Don’t Need No Flaming Sparky Cars

Brian Kingston;

Electric vehicle (EV) sales have plummeted in Canada, dropping by a staggering 53% between Q4 of 2024 and Q1 of 2025.

This sharp decline in sales comes at the very moment governments across Canada have imposed increasingly aggressive EV sales mandates requiring consumers to switch to EVs.

An immediate course correction is required before government mandates wreak havoc on consumers and the auto industry, jeopardizing the livelihoods of the hundreds of thousands of people it employs.

Embrace Hollywood!

“Democrats need to embrace Hollywood because this is where they need to come to learn how to tell a story.“ – Michael Moore.

… sources say that Molina did not intend the film to be a coming out story, as the character is 11. But either way, this characterization gradually faded away throughout the production process as Elio became more masculine following feedback from leadership. Gone were not only such direct examples of his passion for environmentalism and fashion, but also a scene in Elio’s bedroom with pictures suggesting a male crush.

I like Disney animation better when the fallout was limited to people being eaten by cute bears.
