Odd Behaviour

Manitoba’s NDP government is doing something that’s seemingly out of character: they’ve slashed a spending item by 50%. The opposition Tories are critical of that move, but for the wrong reasons. If they were real conservatives, they would demand to know why the government stopped at a 50% cut.

The provincial government has set funding for park-related capital investments at $6.8 million in its first budget, delivered Tuesday. That’s down from about $12.7 million last year, when the PCs were in power.

“It’s obvious this government doesn’t value parks, the experiences they provide or the tourism dollars they bring to the province,” [Conservative MLA] Nesbitt said during question period.

The MLA for Riding Mountain told reporters later on Thursday that Manitobans and other visitors to the province’s parks will all be disappointed by the funding cuts.

Globe and Mail- Prime Minister Trudeau heads to NATO summit as Canada expected to play key role in discussions

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is heading to the NATO leaders’ summit in Lithuania this week, where Canada is likely to play a larger-than-usual role in two critical discussions: the alliance’s expanding membership and its efforts to refocus on collective defence.

Wall Street Journal- Canada Is a Military Free-Rider In NATO

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Lithuania this week for the annual NATO summit, but it’s too bad there wasn’t a junior table where he could sit. That’s where his country belongs based on Ottawa’s feeble commitment to alliance defense.

The Telegraph- Ukrainian healthcare is better than the NHS

If you have read and struggled to believe stories about Ukrainians living in the UK returning to their native country for medical treatment, let me tell you that I am one of them. Having given up on the NHS, I flew to Poland and crossed the border. Later that day, amid air raid sirens, I visited a hospital. By the evening, I had the relevant medicines to get me back on the mend.

Reverse psychology

No matter what you think about Scott Adams’ recent comments, he does highlight a disturbing trend regarding race relations in our culture. What SDA readers have known for a long time is that the criteria for determining hate speech tends to be, well, just a little bit subjective. Take, for instance, the Quebec government’s recent stand on non-French speaking immigrants.

To paraphrase Adams, the Quebec government is effectively proclaiming, “Stay the f*** away from us!”.

So where’s the outrage? All I hear is crickets.

Legault’s nationalist Coalition Avenir Quebec party was re-elected with a huge majority in October, partly on a platform of protecting French as the dominant language in the province of 8.7 million people. His speech to the legislature Wednesday laid out his priorities for his second term, including a plan to bar almost all economic immigrants who don’t speak French by 2026.

Now Is The Time At SDA When We Do Good Guys And Bad Guys

Bad Guys;

Putin on Thursday also said teaching children “that a boy can become a girl and vice versa” verges on being a “crime against humanity,” while suggesting that supporters of transgender rights were calling for the cessation of “basic things such as mother, father, family or gender differences.”

The Russian president, who vies to project a macho image and is widely viewed as an authoritarian, has been condemned by other world leaders and top human rights groups over his anti-LGBTQ policies and rhetoric.

Good Guys.
