National Post- It’s not ‘elbows up’ approach as RCMP renews contracts for American helicopters, industry association says

Trevor Mitchell, chief executive of the Helicopter Association of Canada (HAC), said he was very surprised that the RCMP would sign another contract to lease the American Black Hawks, while Canadian manufacturers offer rival products that can do at least as good a job. “I can’t see how any of this transpires into an elbows-up policy, or a Canada-first policy.”

  1. You”d think a country that’s mostly accessible only by air and water would be able to build boats and helicopters to reach those places.

  2. The RCMP leases two Black Hawks. They have nine other choppers of various make and model for various jobs (inclusive of hauling). The Black Hawks are used, primarily, for border patrol due to their speed, and internal infrared/ monitoring equipment. I, personally, don’t think Bell Canada has anything comparable.

    1. Good … now fly those Black Hawks and chase down some “newcomer” escapees. You can KEEP all the “newcomers” YOU import.

    2. The RCAF is equipped with Bell 412s as utility helicopter (called CH146 Griffin) and… well you’re right they are garbage. We shoulda bought the Black Hawks.

  3. “I can’t see how any of this transpires into an elbows-up policy, or a Canada-first policy.”

This was just a catchy slogan to entice low information voters. Another CON in CONfederation.

  4. “The RCMP has renewed the contracts for three Black Hawk helicopters to patrol the Canada-U.S. border,”

???? – Patrol the US-Canada border? For what?

    1. It’s a cheap ploy to make it look to OrangeManBad like we’re actually monitoring the border, looking for wetbacks & drugs while Marx Carnage “negotiates” tariffs. Typical [spit] Prog BS: make it look like they’re doing something while accomplishing nothing.
