We Don’t Need No Flaming Sparky Cars

CNBC;

A Tesla Supercharger station located at a Wawa convenience store ignited in Parsippany, New Jersey, CNBC confirmed after images of the fire were shared on social media.

According to a Wawa spokesperson, “Tesla had an issue with their cabinet and the power has been shut off while they are investigating. Our store was unaffected as it is on a completely separate power line.”

Tesla did not return multiple requests for comment.

The Sound Of Settled Science

Mapping the Medieval Warm Period;

About 1000 years ago, large parts of the world experienced a prominent warm phase which in many cases reached a similar temperature level as today or even exceeded present-day warmth. While this Medieval Warm Period (MWP) has been documented in numerous case studies from around the globe, climate models still fail to reproduce this historical warm phase. The problem is openly conceded in the most recent IPCC report from 2013 (AR5, Working Group 1) where in chapter 5.3.5. the IPCC scientists admit […]

Surprisingly, the media have not picked up on this important issue. Maybe because the information is hidden in small print on page 415 of the voluminous report and omitted in the Summary for Policy Makers? The implications of the mismatch of model vs. reality may be serious: It is common practice in all fields of modeling to test models first on existing data, i.e. a known development, before using them as predictive tools. Models first have to pass the ‚hind cast‘ or ‚history match‘ before they qualify to be used for predictions. According to the IPCC, the climate models seem to have failed this test, appear to be on the road without driving license – so to speak – and are therefore unfit for future climate predictions.

Showing Up To Riot

Your Moral And Intellectual Superiors: The Movie

Directed by Clint Eastwood.

Most Hollywood films about journalism since All the President’s Men 43 years ago have taken the free press’ side, portraying it as a scruffy if noble institution essential to the well-being of democracy. Eastwood and screenwriter Billy Ray (The Hunger Games, Captain Phillips) here take a rather different view of the Fourth Estate, portraying it as reckless, corrupt and immoral [emphasis added]….

The mob of reporters covering the story resembles a plague of locusts, with any little tidbit being transformed into big news as the media tries to finger a culprit.

Let The Eastern Bastards Freeze In The Dark

Not strong enough, Mr. Kenney.

“We have technology that could guarantee you constant, stable access to propane and other fuels. They’re called pipelines,” he said.

“If the government of Quebec is concerned about reliable access to propane and other fuels … then we have a very simple message for the government of Quebec: help us build additional pipeline capacity.”

The comments come after Legault called for an end to the Canadian National (CN) Railway strike, saying the province’s supply of propane will run out in a matter of days.

The Quebec government is rationing the remaining supply of its propane.

Legault also called on the federal government to consider back-to-work legislation, if need be.

Kenney said that Quebec would not need to rely on storage and rationing if there was a way to “ship in” fossil fuels through a pipeline.

The strike will end, the propane will resume flowing, and the status quo will return as though nothing had ever happened.

Try this next time, Mr. Premier — “This is Quebec’s opportunity to transition to a fossil fuel free economy — and they can count on us to assist in that.”

A Futuristic Blend Of Ugly And Useless

Via @ShortingIsFunSomeone wake up @markbspiegel and @TESLAcharts, they’re going to have regretted missing the CringeTruck reveal.

“In his unusually short, 25-minute presentation, Musk didn’t say when the truck will head into production.”

But wait, there’s more!

And, yes…. more.

I, For One, Welcome Our New Self Driving Overlords

“My husband believed Tesla could do no wrong.”

I am wondering whether Tesla ever helps pay for damage in faulty vehicle.

My husband was driving his Tesla Model 3 yesterday in the rain. He was in navigation mode and it downgraded to lane follow because of the weather. He was in the. HOV lane of the interstate, straight (but wet road) road, going the speed limit, no other cars near his. He went under a bridge, the car suddenly swerved left (no warning/beeping triggered). My husband was alert and had his hands on the wheel and tried to regain control, but it had already gone into a spin, did a 360 and hit a concrete wall. In their system, there was no evidence of collision. We only knew the exact time because the frunk became disengaged when it crumpled. The airbags were not deployed, which is surprising given it was a 65 mph crash.

I had previous issues with the navigation mode. The first instance was the car’s desire to move to the leftmost lane even when I was getting off in less than two miles. I could cancel the lane change, but a split second later, it would reinitiate the merge. I could cancel it 10 times in a row, and it did not matter. This was a change from before. I have a video of this. Tesla phone intake person said that was not normal.

A week after, the car in navigate mode nearly led me into an accident. I tried to merge me into a car on the interstate that was going ~30 mph slower than me. Luckily I was able to take the wheel and swerve around it and the road was dry so I was ok. I stopped using the self driving after that. My husband, a mechanical engineer, really believes in the Tesla project and kind of dismissed it as unlucky. But then his accident happened yesterday.

Don’t think of it as “shortfall”.

With the CN strike about to enter day three, the president of the Canadian Propane Association (CPA) says the province of Quebec is about to enter into a crisis situation, with Ontario not far behind.

Quebec heavily relies on the the railroad to bring its supply of propane — 83 per cent is transported via the rail line. In Canada, overall, 63 per cent of propane moves on the tracks, with the remainder transported by truck.

According to Nathalie St-Pierre, president and CEO of the CPA, by the end of the day on Wednesday, 80 per cent of Quebec’s propane reserve will be used up. […]

The supply shortfall is being caused by numerous factors — demand spikes from cold weather, farmers needing to dry grain, and a rail strike that has yet to be resolved.

St-Pierre can’t recall the last time an accumulation of factors have caused such a shortfall of the product.

Think of it as practice.
