May 30, 2026: Reader Tips

The original Planet of the Apes film was very impactful on young me. Here’s an interesting video that turned some scenes of the movie into a Twilight Zone episode. Fun fact: Rod Serling, the creator of Twilight Zone, co-wrote the original Planet of the Apes film.

Your most interesting news tips of late are deeply appreciated!

    1. Since you have opened up the George Floyd/ Derek Chauvin case here I find it rather pathetic that the Canadian and American media have no mention of the Henry Nowak case in Southampton, UK. Nowak was stabbed by a Sikh with a ceremonial kirpan. When police arrived the Sikh shouted ‘racism’ and said he had been accosted by Nowak, Nowak told the responding officers that he’d been stabbed. Nowak was placed in handcuffs as a ‘racist’ and died choking in his own blood. The media in Britain are up in arms about this but the funny thing is there have been no wide-spread riots in Britain as there was in Minnesota when Floyd died. Another funny thing about the case is that the arresting officers have not been identified. I’ll go out on a limb here and hazard a guess that the arresting officers were not WASPs. Perhaps the two-tiered justice system is alive and well on both sides of the pond.

    1. ha ha ha ha!!! talk about playing ‘hard ball’ gawd l wish l had thought of that and suggest it.

    1. If food and fuel were included in the inflation calculation, as they formerly were, the number was more like 20%.

  1. I read the book by Pierre Boule; haven’t actually seen the movie. In the book, the planet of the apes orbits Betelgeuse. The story is being narrated by an astronaut who finds a message in a bottle orbiting Saturn, written by one of the astronauts who went to Betelgeuse. The Statue of Liberty scene isn’t in the book. Instead, (spoiler ahead) in the last paragraph of the book we find out the astronaut reading the message is a chimpanzee.

    1. Cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face is an Elbows Up way of doing things.

    2. Are we buying Swedish planes because a) they are the best, b) the Swedes are going to buy the equivalent (in price) from Canada, c) we want to send a signal to America that we hate them.

  2. As a wee lad, I hated all those late 60s/early 70s dark, end-of-the-world, disaster-centric, dystopian movies. There seemed to be a whole lot of them at the time, and I think that’s where my hatred and distrust of all things mass media, but especially Hollywood began. Probably also started me on my way to being a rabid, right wing conservative. So it all worked out in the end. Thank you commie pukes!

    1. oddly enough Heston did 2 of them, Apes and Soylent Green.
dyed in the wool conservative but $ talks

      1. Proof that if you have the money … you can always drive the latest model.
Why BUY the vehicle when you can lease it … and then give it back after 3-years?

I’m not advocating this … as I have “owned” my model for 43 years … with very low maintenance. But some folks drive differently, and think differently than I do.

    1. LOL … “alright then … 6-doses of The LA Times …”
I’ve made several $$ donations to the Pratt campaign … and it is FABULOUS to see how well he has spent my money i.e. … didn’t drop $M’s on getting an Oprah appearance … once.

    1. There actually was a recording act called the Harry Simeon Chorale. But, sadly, they did not do the music for “Planet of the Apes”.

  3. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) voted to end greenhouse gas reporting requirements.

    https://www.usnews.com/news/business/articles/2026-05-29/sec-moves-to-repeal-rule-that-requires-companies-to-report-greenhouse-gas-emissions-and-climate-risk

The SEC said in a statement that it is now moving to rescind the disclosure rules “in their entirety because they exceed the scope of the agency’s statutory authority.” The rules, finalized in 2024, “impose substantial costs on public companies and their shareholders that are not justified by the informational benefits they may provide to some investors,” the commission said.

The SEC had moved to end the reporting requirements back in March, 2025 but there were legal challenges, putting the repeal on hold. Now the legal challenges appear to have been exhausted.

This is very unusual for a regulatory authority to recommend ending a regulation because it exceeds its authority. Feels like a Trump victory.

    1. OSC has a case now against Purpose Investments for inadequate green house gas disclosure.
