Your Moral And Intellectual Superiors: The Movie

Directed by Clint Eastwood.

Most Hollywood films about journalism since All the President’s Men 43 years ago have taken the free press’ side, portraying it as a scruffy if noble institution essential to the well-being of democracy. Eastwood and screenwriter Billy Ray (The Hunger Games, Captain Phillips) here take a rather different view of the Fourth Estate, portraying it as reckless, corrupt and immoral [emphasis added]….

The mob of reporters covering the story resembles a plague of locusts, with any little tidbit being transformed into big news as the media tries to finger a culprit.

  1. Eastwood and Billy Ray portrayed the media exactly as they should be portrayed, immoral, corrupt, biased, totally without conscience as they ruin a target’s life,as in the Rob Ford case, and what they’re trying to do against Trump is disgraceful. Can’t wait to see another gem from Eastwood, best film maker in the left wing cesspool of Hollywood.

  2. I cannot WAIT … for Eastwood’s Empty Chair film … about every single one of the hollow, empty promises of Obama starting with nonsensical slogans such as … HOPE … and … CHANGE. Hopefully, the film will also feature the ex post facto “birth certificate” fabricated by the deep staters in the Hawaiian bureaucracy. And feature streets of drug addicts and homeless enjoying Obama’s “new normal” America.

  3. the link comments mention ‘Shattered Glass’, yet another indictment of the msm and the lies lies lies lies lies to
    ‘get the story’.

  4. As reported by the Guardian…

“Kevin G Riley, editor in chief of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, said in a letter to the Wrap that the film’s suggestion that its reporter Kathy Scruggs traded sex for information from an FBI agent was not true, and that the film’s intention was to undermine confidence in the media and law enforcement agencies.”

Riley said: “There is no evidence that this ever happened, and … it’s offensive and deeply troubling in the #MeToo era.”

He added: “This is essential because the underlying theme of the movie is that the FBI and press are not to be trusted. Yet the way the press is portrayed often differs from reality … It remains [crucial] to have solid information when covering demanding stories. It’s also ironic that a film purporting to hold the media to account disregards such crucial facts.”

I think Riley missed the point here. The film’s intention is not to undermine the media. It’s intention is to shine a light on the media and how it treated a hero like a criminal. And Riley doesn’t even go there. He moves from “the film’s suggestion that its reporter Kathy Scruggs traded sex for information from an FBI agent was not true” to ““There is no evidence that this ever happened” which are 2 entirely different statements. Riley does not even address the attitude of the press in undermining Billy Ray. Did Eastwood do a poor job on this? Not according to the standing ovations.

  5. I found this gem from Clint:

“I will never win an Oscar and do you know why? First of all, because I’m not Jewish. Secondly, because I make too much money for those old farts in the Academy. Thirdly, and most importantly, because I don’t give a f–k. ”

Ironic since he’s won four times for Best Picture and Best Director.

I remember well the media piling on Richard Jewell as a pathetic, obese loser who planted the bomb to get attention.

    1. Yep. Jewell simply … LOOKED … like “the type of white racist loser” who would do such a thing. Our “lookism” bias is rather indelibly imprinted in our psyche’. Not only did the Press rush to this conclusion, but so did most of America.

We never see the good-looking Ted Bundy’s, Andrew Cunan’s, or Jeffrey Epstein’s … as the loathesome creatures they actually are …

    2. Jewell almost joined the countless INNOCENT accused, manuy of whom sit on death row.
to slake the bloodlust embedded in the corrupt demonic brains of those in charge of ‘justice’ or is that a spelling mishtak?
was it really an answer to a question at a bar, mis-heard instead of ‘just ice’?

all thanks to the supermkt tabloid msm.
in the rush to ‘get the story’. here’s another OBSCENE example:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Rascals_day_care_sexual_abuse_trial
from the link “dropped all charges”.
I watched the PBS documentary. apparently testimony from kids who had been coached relentlessly and spoke of ‘sharks jumping over the cruise boat’ was viewed as ‘gospel truth’, to suit the prosecutor.
who naturally dragged out the old ‘tried’ and ‘true’ ‘fess up or wese gonna get reallllll heavy handed with ya. and wese gots a jail house snitch ready to rat youse out in exchange for their own plea bargooooon’.

all of it driven by the need to sell newspapers.

I’ll never forget the little blip in the local birdhouse liner about ‘cocaine isn’t addictive’ back in the early stages of it gaining popularity among the preppies and wall streeters.
where did they get that news item? hmmmm?

      1. And the ABSOLUTE worst statement to ever come out of the Day Care sexual abuse scandal(s) … ?

        “children never lie”

Obviously spoken by childless drones who deify children as the unspoiled offspring of Gaia … only to be RUINED by adults, teachers, and “the church” with all their “rules” and “abuse”. smh to this day

  6. The MSM are the worst offenders when it comes to an individual’s judicial foundation of presumption of innocence.
They are worse now than then, moving at light speed to accuse, judge and condemn ASAP.

  7. Yup, remember it well and a definite watershed moment for me with respect to the dirty games the media will play just for a story. You haven’t a soul if you couldn’t feel for this guy in any way. RIP Richard, Clint’s got this.
The second “Holy sh**!!! These people are insane” moment was the Guy Paul Morin case in which he was accused of murdering a girl who lived next door, although to be fair that had more to do with police/ justice dept./ medical community misconduct than anything else. That’s not to say I’m giving a pass to the media who weren’t at all adverse to piling on.
Taught me a lot actually. Only talk about the weather to the police and lawyer up at the first hint of being in their crosshairs.

  8. Clint Eastwood is a saint for setting the record straight on Jewell. And while simultaneously sh***ing on the media at the same time? Well that’s just the icing on the cake!

  9. “Absence of Malice” is probably closer to the mark than most films about the news business. And the DOJ.

  10. Thank you for sharing my article! There’s a good reason Clint has remained a movie star for decades … he has an innate sense of what the American movie going public wants to see. His instincts aren’t perfect, but I’d be shocked if “Richard Jewell” didn’t become a hit …
