What kind of organization threatens their volunteers?

Hello Volunteers,

It is day 2 of Fringe but we have already received some complaints regarding the use of pronouns and folks being misgendered.

Under Canadian Human Rights Legislation, using correct pronouns is recognized as a fundamental aspect of a person’s identity and dignity. Misgendering or refusing to use a person’s preferred pronouns constitutes discrimination.

We here at Fringe take this very seriously. If we receive a report of this behaviour of any kind, you will receive a warning from us. If we receive a second report, you will be removed from all of your remaining shifts and will not be invited back to volunteer with Fringe.

I have attached the Gender Inclusion Document for review. It has some helpful tips on language to use if you are unsure of someone’s pronouns.

Back in April, THB broke the news to the world that the only three official reference scenarios used for the past 15 years in much of climate research, assessment and policy had been retired. The CMIP71 conclusion that RCP8.5, SSP5-8.5, and SSP3-7.0 were “implausible” was huge news.

Today, I share more big news about how official climate scenarios continue to evolve.

CMIP7 has just published the final versions of its new scenarios as they have emerged from integrated assessment models (IAMs), updating the placeholders that accompanied their April announcement. The final versions — once again — dramatically reduces the cumulative carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels from the April placeholders.

The table below shows just how large these changes are in gigatons (Gt) of carbon dioxide emitted from the burning of fossil fuels to 2100 — both in terms of the highest cumulative emissions across the scenario set (in the first bullet below) and in terms of the scenarios designated as reference or current policy […]

It’s good to be King.

Prime Minister Mark Carney and his entourage spent $159,800 on airplane food during a single trip while dining on “chicken chasseur,” Chilean sea bass and “death by chocolate,” according to government records obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

Carney continues to rack up expensive airplane food bills despite the government promising to reduce costs and other officials spending far less on in-flight catering.

“Carney spent more money on airplane food during one trip than the average family will spend on groceries in almost a decade,” said Franco Terrazzano, CTF Federal Director. “Carney keeps promising to spend less, but if he isn’t willing to cut back on airplane food, then what will he spend less on?”

Carney and his 55-person entourage spent $159,800 on airplane food during one week-long trip to Athens, Abu Dhabi, Johannesburg and the Canary Islands in November 2025, according to government records tabled in response to an order paper question. That’s $2,850 per passenger.

Oh no!

Corus, the parent company of Global TV, is preparing to shut down news production in Calgary and Edmonton and transfer the work to Toronto, the Western Standard has learned.

Western Standard souces say Corus is expected to make the announcement on Thursday.

“There will be a lot of layoffs,” said the source.

One source said the last day of August is when the transfer is set to be completed.

“From that point on, both Calgary and Edmonton newscasts will be produced remotely from Toronto.

Corus has faced severe, ongoing challenges in the broadcasting industry.

The company is facing declining revenues from advertising and higher debt costs.

In late 2025, the company cut 35–46 jobs in the news department.

How does an American Democratic operative end up running the daily operations of the Canadian PM’s office?

From the comments: This is very strange. Maia Johnson can be found in the John Podesta emails that came out on Wiki-Leaks. She was nothing more than a scheduling secretary. She helped coordinate logistics and schedule campaign events. Nothing implies she is anywhere near qualified to serve in the capacity as a “Chief Operating Officer.” She’s more qualified as an “administrative assistant.”

The International Harvester deep freeze in my brother’s basement is still in operation, 22 years after I first mentioned it here.

In an adjacent room, is an International Harvester refrigerator keeping beer and soft drinks cold. It looks like the one pictured below.

 

International Harvester, a farm equipment manufacturer (more here), produced refrigerators and deep freezes between 1948 to 1955.

I’ll let you do the math.

To be fair, I wouldn’t expect Emma to know this, given they just might be older than her grandfather.
