47: Shaking Things Up

I predict Vice Admiral Autogynophila can kiss his post goodbye. Hegseth for Defense Secretary, Noem to Homeland Security;

Late Tuesday, Trump named military veteran and Fox News host Pete Hegseth as his incoming defense secretary.

“With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies are on notice — Our Military will be Great Again, and America will Never Back Down,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, US media reported that Florida’s Senator Marco Rubio would be nominated to the key position of secretary of state.

Trump separately named congressman Mike Waltz, a former special forces officer, as his incoming national security advisor.

Marco Rubio expected to be secretary of state, Mike Huckabee to ambassador to Israel.

To the memes go the spoils: Trump said Musk and another stalwart ally, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, would lead a “Department of Government Efficiency (‘DOGE’)” a tongue-in-cheek reference to an internet meme and cryptocurrency.

Unicorn Economics

There’s no magic formula that’s going to make a ponzi scheme sound, but that doesn’t stop a lot of academics from trying to find one. I also have to wonder how the author comes to the conclusion that Canadians pay less taxes than they used to.

The income taxes paid by Canadian millennials are being squeezed by population aging. The typical 35-year-old now pays approximately 20-per-cent to 40-per-cent more for boomers’ healthy retirements than boomers paid as young people to support the smaller number of seniors in their day.

This extra tax burden will only get heavier in the years ahead as Ottawa enacts planned increases for Old Age Security (OAS) and the Canada Health Transfer, and provinces increase medical spending for their aging populations.

Embrace Hollywood!

“Democrats need to embrace Hollywood because this is where they need to come to learn how to tell a story.“ – Michael Moore.

On the Sunday before the election, my friend Kurt Schlichter tweeted the following:

“It just occured to me that I have zero idea what movies are playing in theaters. None. At all. I checked online. Not a single movie I am interested in. Not remotely. This would have been utterly inconceivable 20 years ago, even 10.”

And then he tagged me, and pressed “send”… like a psychopath.

The Poor Things

Leftist Fragility is a thing.

Spiked- No, you don’t have ‘post-election depression’

How is your mental health holding up after the re-election of Donald Trump this week? Do you need some ‘grief’ counselling? Did you take a day off work? How about a visit from an emotional-support duck, or some time to play with Lego? Believe it or not, these are all options being offered to grown adults at their places of work or study, to help cope with their supposed ‘post-election depression’.

Bureau Exclusive: Beijing Endorsed Nomination of 41 Candidates in Canada’s 2019 Election

An elite Chinese Communist Party organ has published a chillingly sophisticated analysis of People’s Republic interference during Canada’s 2019 federal election, noting that Justin Trudeau personally campaigned in key Toronto-area ridings and highlighting Beijing’s satisfaction that 41 ‘distinguished’ Chinese candidates were nominated by various political parties in 2019, achieving a reported election ‘success rate of 20 percent.’

The analysis was published in February 2021 by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese (ACFROC), which experts describe as a central agency in the CCP’s United Front system, functioning as a “bridge” to connect the CCP with Chinese populations abroad. Alex Joske, an expert cited in Canadian immigration proceedings, explains that ACFROC’s primary objective is to mobilize diaspora networks in support of Beijing’s policies, particularly during national exigencies. During the COVID-19 pandemic, for example, Joske reports that ACFROC coordinated with Chinese communities worldwide to source and direct medical supplies back to China, demonstrating its capacity to mobilize global diaspora communities.

In its February 2021 report, analyzed exclusively by The Bureau, ACFROC highlights the significance of the Liberal Party leader’s engagement with Chinese voters,

“Mayor Jyoti Gondek” Is Not A Character In An SDA Juxtapose

But she could be!

CBC, October 27th: Mayor Jyoti Gondek has homed in on one political problem as she struggles with poor approval ratings that could doom her hopes for re-election as mayor: Calgarians don’t really know who she is.

Asteroid Watch

Team Blue’s got the blues;

MSNBC saw its audience crater on Thursday and Friday, just days after the left-of-center network beat CNN in election night ratings for the first time ever.

Thursday’s total average daily viewers on Fox News came in at 2.6 million and 375,000 in the coveted 25-54 age demographic, according to Nielsen data. Meanwhile, MSNBC brought in only 596,000 total viewers and 71,000 in the demo. CNN brought in 419,000 total viewers on Thursday and 91,000 viewers in the demo.

Fox News was up some 60 percent year over year for the day, while MSNBC and CNN were down 23 and 40 percent – respectively. In prime time the news was even more bleak for CNN and MSNBC as they shed 30 percent and 54 percent of their viewers, respectively, compared to the same day last year. MSNBC host Alex Wagner had her lowest-rated show ever in terms of total viewers, while Chris Hayes’s show brought in its worst numbers since May of 2016.

And that doesn’t factor in the audience boost from rubberneckers.
