There’s been a lot of talk of late about banning fighting in the NHL. This narrative appears to be popping up throughout popular culture, which of course is controlled by our “intellectual & moral betters” on the Left. Looking a few years into the future, if we follow the “progressive” agenda to its logical end, what would hockey look like?
Here is a fair comparison of the Left’s vision vs. Common Sense, when it comes to professional hockey:
Air Canada: The Math Tells the Story
Interesting times at Canadian airports these days, but it’s not clear whether the average Canadian understands precisely what the real problem at Air Canada really is.
Charles Adler’s end of week segment with the Globe & Mail’s Dan Cook revealed some startling facts:
> Market Cap: $227 Million = $0.227 Billion
> Pension Liabilities: $13 Billion
In other words, the company owes approximately 57 times in union pension commitments than it is currently worth.
Since many people’s eyes glaze over when they see “millions” & “billions”, another way to look at is like this:
Imagine a 25 year old, living on his own in a rented apartment, tallies up everything he owns and determines it to be worth $10,000. Then he looks at credit card and bank statements and realizes he owes $570,000.
That, in a nutshell, is Air Canada’s predicament today.
Update: The $227 Million market cap and $13 Billion pension liabilities were accurately reported from what Dan Cook said on the radio program. But SDA regular ‘KevinB’ says this may not be correct. His comment is well worth a read.

The old adage, “Be careful what you wish for”, is sure playing out in Greece. Most of the populace hopped on the Socialist Bandwagon generations ago. Now they’ve ended up precisely where that bandwagon always takes one under socialist rule. Yet in this recent BBC Radio Documentary, young, “educated” Greeks seem shocked & surprised that endless corruption, nepotism, and endless incompetence rules the day and is at the very heart of why their dreams have been crushed and they’re going to spend the rest of their lives wasting away, unemployed. Unless they leave, that is, and admit that capitalism & free markets are the answers to their prayers.

The Latest, Greatest Gift to Race Baiters
My heart goes out to the family and friends of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teenager who was shot & killed on February 26th. It’s beyond unfortunate though to see race baiters like Karen Finney use this tragedy as a prop to build up “cred” on their CVs. As Ms. Finney adds fuel to the fire, one wonders if she’ll take any responsibility if others now get injured or killed as part of the retribution for Trayvon?
And, of course, there still is the whole issue of George Zimmerman being innocent until proven guilty. But why should race baiters let that tiny, little point get in the way of their careers?!
This Is Not Your Grandma’s Humane Society
In March 7 comments at the Nebraska Cattlemen symposium in Lexington, [Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman] said of the HSUS: “We’re going to kick your ass and send you out of the state.”
And in a speech in Washington in January, he called upon farm-focused lawmakers from across the country to fight the HSUS.
“I’m a graduate of West Point. I’m an Army Ranger,” Heineman said then. “This guy (Pacelle) wants to engage in guerrilla warfare, I’ll teach him a thing or two.”
In a December 2010 speech to the Cattlemen, Heineman said he didn’t trust Pacelle and his organization. “No deals. No compromise,” the governor said.

I reacted strongly when Santorum went on his porn jihad. Nothing bothers me more than censorship emanating from the right.
Glenn is right. After this, Santorum is an unacceptable candidate.

Who’s the public and who’s the servant?
In 2005, Michael and Chantell Sackett bought a small property in an Idaho residential neighborhood, intending to build a home. Once construction began, the EPA decided without any notice that the plot was a “wetland” because it was near a lake. There is no water on the property…
Even though there are other houses between the Sackett’s one acre lot and the lake, the EPA ordered them to remove the fill and restore the “wetlands” or pay fines of up to $75,000 a day.
So, are American citizens entitled to due process, or is the EPA entitled to act as judge and jury? Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court weighed in with a unanimous ruling…

The high school graduation rate in Washington D.C. has officially been almost twenty percent lower than in cities just a stone’s throw away, but this already low figure may have been overestimated by a whopping twenty percent because of an overly generous formula used by D.C. education officials.
Enter D.C. City Council, who have collectively decided that it’s time to aim higher:
D.C. students would be required to apply to college or trade school and take the SAT or ACT under the most sweeping education legislation passed by the D.C. Council since a 2007 law set the stage for former Chancellor Michelle Rhee’s aggressive reforms. Under the Raising the Expectations for Education Outcomes Omnibus Act of 2012, the District is set to become the first “state” in the nation to require students to apply to a postsecondary institution, according to council staff.
Kwame Brown, the main mover and shaker behind the legislation, can already see the results in his rear-view mirror: “This is a historic moment. It probably won’t be felt for another two or three years, but we’ll look back on this moment.” Marion Barry, the four-time mayor, crack head, and current Ward 9 Councilman, supports the “landmark” and “trailblazing” bill, because —
“The problem we have is so massive. It is so massive.”
