“He does not want to reform entitlements. He wants to eliminate them. He wants to eliminate them because he doesn’t believe they are a legitimate function of government.”
They aren’t. The proper function of government is to protect individual rights, not to engage in “redistribution of wealth” with the redistributers essentially being parasites living off the productive, and encouraging people to become recipients in much the same way. The biggest issue is the timeline, not the policy.
“Paul Ryan does not believe in the most primary institution of that commonwealth: our government.”
Ah yes, the “hate government” anti-Tea Party tack.
“Hate government” is an anti-concept. What it really means is these people hate coercion, as every rational person does. Government is supposed to have a monopoly on coercion. It should only act as an agent of self-defense for those whose rights have been violated by others. “No person has the right to initiate the use of force or fraud on any other person”, as Ayn Rand put it, is the principle of a civilized society. Those who throw around phrases like “hate government” at their political enemies are themselves enemies of a civilized society.
The Democrats are running a strictly negative campaign as they don’t have any policy other than “We want to be re-elected”
” Democrats can’t run the country, but they are running the sleaziest campaign in memory.
By Mona Charen” http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/313550/unfit-govern-mona-charen
how could one even repond to such drivel that is at that site. wow. unbelievable vitrol.
It amazes me that ever increasing government entitlements are seen as crucial to statists to prevent the collapse of civilized society.
Government didn’t collapse without them in the past, nor will it in the future. This is an utterly ridiculous, demonstrably false argument. The debate is not, nor has it ever been about larger government vrs no government at all.
The European entitlement economies are on the verge of collapse, with constant bailouts that are simply not sustainable, especially with aging populations.
The GOP, Tea Party and Ryan argue the same is true for the US, that continued and unsustainable increases in debt/entitlements will deeply injure the US economy and threaten prosperity.
I see the argument for the necessity of big intrusive expensive government is already being made by the Democrats and their media supporters. Good, let the games begin, without the rhetoric, but based on facts, not smears and personal attacks.
I doubt very much this will happen. Instead an imaginary view where giant government is the norm and leftist/statist ideas are the only acceptable topics for debate will prevail. Idiotic emotionalism like “you didn’t build that” or claims of racism will steer the election to a numbingly negative tone.
That is what the left wants for the US. The GOP must resist wallowing in the mud with the Democrats (besides they are better at it). A campaign based on facts and reality that convincingly counters misinformation is what the Republicans must do. From there they can present their vision, rather than the empty hope for change and sleazy politics of the left.
Only the relentless presentation of ideas and yes, an alternate vision for the US will win the GOP the White House and Congress. This is needed not just for Americans but for the world, lest the new economy be one dominated by China and the declining fortunes of the USA and Europe.
This election will test the rather dubious proposition that Americans are ready to become American.
Maybe in Oklahoma, Utah and Idaho they are. I guess some will say we never stopped being Americans. Point taken. Neither did I and I don’t even live there.
Fascinating times, but my optimism is waning. I think the zombie theme is appropriate, and the zombie president is already serving. The question is, who? Or what?
Based on his past statements, I`d say that silly prick Krugman has already had his stroke.
And he is extremist.
Don’t forget he is an extremist.
Did I mention he’s an extremist?
Ryan the extremist…how does that sound?
If Romney had picked Mother Theresa, overnight she would have become a black-leather Nazi whore.
Doesn’t this us election cycle sound so 2005 to Canadian conservatives.
The left actually believes all these apocalyptic pronouncements. The electorate will suffer major dissonance when the satanist picture they paint comes nowhere near the experience or what people actually see.
Plains issue was she fed the narrative, fairly or unfairly. Shouldn’t happen here. Yet Obama unscripted continues to feed the narrative about him.
It will be dirty, and it will be rough, but I suspect dems are entering concern mode now. When they find their working theory of the electorate is failing in late September then full blown panic sets in.
Of course I still expect an IRS mole releases Romney’s tax returns or at least claims to.
I also expect some woman, an ex Mormon.,, will be found who will claim that Romney pressured her to have a baby and then force her to give it up and she was in an abusive relationship. It will be u true but that won’t matter
Now if we could only get that leak of a college application where Obama says he was Kenyan, he is American. Then the elizabeth warrenization of Obama will be complete.
Obama is spending too much too fast of the campaign contributions. I guess it is a Democratic habit. Panic is already setting in that they will run out of money before October. Of course they are getting all sorts of free publicity with the mainstream media supporting them.

Great post, nv53. How many canucks would think you’d lost your mind had you told them the government’s job is to protect individual rights (and I’d certainly include “property rights”, an alien concept in canada) and not to redistribute wealth?
Great picture at the original post. I see the leftards accepted the premise of “death panels”, but only when supposedly implemented by the repubs. They should ask folks who use the VA about government health care restrictions, and read a little bit: Maobama has taken $500B from Medicare to fund obamacare, and granting healthcare to illegals and others. Who do they think will see a reduction in services and possibly life-threatening situations caused by that?
Stupidity: not only a hallmark of the Left, but a bragging point as well.

“The first three words of the Preamble to the Constitution make a lie out of every speech he’s ever given.”
Uhhhh,… no not really. The only thing “provided for” in the preamble is the common defense. I despise this hyperbole. These disgusting leftists wipe their a55es all over the Constitution and then waive about the clean corner, “We the people,” as if Marxism was high on the minds of the slave owning bourgeois pigs who wrote it. What a sham.
Great post nv53 is right.
Increased entitlements come with increased governmental control of its citizens.
In one of the forwards in a recent printing of Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom”, the continual increase in a socialist government’s entitlements largess and the always accompanying increase in the regulatory framework inevitably leads to a totalitarian government.
The incremental form of socialism’s totalitarian creep in the end result is just as slave creating as the Bolshevik coup in October 1917.
Think about what recently happened the old Gibson guitar factory and thousands of other examples such as kids being arrested for having sidewalk lemonade stands.
Further to what ‘bluetech’ wrote, the 2nd sentence in the linked piece is both amusing and telling. “Extremist” is used twice and “extreme” used once. This is, not only poor English, but also speaks volumes about the bizarre perception of reality of the writer.
With America in enormous debt already and growing ever so more daily, it’s now deemed “extremist” by the ‘generous’ Left, who have a never-ending flurry of ideas about how to spend more & more money … with never a care for paying it back. Like drunk sailors on shore leave, who have lost all sense of good judgement, some adults like Paul Ryan are needed to end the party before the drunkards gamble away their futures. The drunk mind may perceive him as an “extremist”, but sober minds do not.
“He looks at the country and sees its government as something alien that is holding down the individual entrepreneurial genius of 200 million people, and not as their creation, and the vehicle through which that genius can be channelled for the general welfare”
Written by a true believer apparently. This line demonstrates clearly the different mindset between Obama’s supporters and the people who build America and keep it going.
Bloody Communists, no other word for it.
Kruschev was right. Communists will destroy The United States and we will sell them the rope to hang us with. “We will sell them the rope” in meaning they (obama and the marxist liberal dhimpcrapts) will steal the poductivity and assets of the productive class to give to their non-productive fellow travelers and useful idiots to take our “rope” and hang the rest of us with it.
He’s not “radical” enough to save the county from pillage by the racketeering oligarchy. If he was serious about needed reforms he’d be advocating shutting down the Fed, and disbanding the ATF, TSA, DHS, IRS and repealing all the executive orders of the past 15 years giving the POTUS unilateral authority to institute martial law. Re-establish and strengthen posse comitatus, then downsize government at least 50%.
Until this happens, America will remain a gulag nation in economic recession with a mobster government.
Someone has to have the gametes to get the government out of the people’s face, out of their pockets and off their back so they can do what they have to do to make America affluent, secure and free again.
It’s time for John Gault to occupy the oval office.
I don’t use internet memes often, but in this case:
What is this I don’t even…
Yeah, because someday somebody may give a crap what the DU droolers think.
Dmorris, I picked up on the same sentence and I also believe this is the true feelings of the left. I get the same message from my Liberal friends about what is going on in Ontario.
As we have seen discussed so many times on SDA this sense of entitlement created over decades by the leftist teacher’s unions has permeated all levels of our society.
Listening to Ryan and Harper presenting facts and figures on our debts and the costs of our massive governments just makes the eyes glaze over in most people. They just don’t care, I want mine, now.
Any sane, logical person who when shown the disaster McGuinty has created in Ontario, education, energy, public debt, whatever, would be stunned and shocked. The majority of people in cities like Toronto just shrug their shoulders and vote to continue this debacle.
Yeah, because someday somebody may give a crap what the DU droolers think.
I posted it in the interests of fairness and balance.
DU droolers??? What is a DU???
Thanks Stephen. Yes in the 05 Cdn election the CPC and Harper used a negative campaign to portray the Opposition as cruel kitten eating haters of Canada. Who could forget the woman who would shot in a alley while having a coat hanger abortion because Harper the meanie intended to build aircraft carriers and prisons instead of hospitals.
When Mr Harper was clearly miffed when he learned one of his candidates shot his stupid mouth off, the angry Harper meme began. Mr Harper learned his lesson well and was ready in the 06 election with a 5-point platform with daily policy announcements geared around that platform. The Grits overplayed their hand with the ridiculous soldiers in the street ad and the beer and popcorn Scott Reid quip. The media warmed up to Mr Harper (a little anyway) while the media accompanying the Grits were infuriated at lack of information and being scooped by the Harper media. That was the end for Mr Martin, he lost the media.
Will the Dems overplay their hand too. I suspect they will if and only if the GOP sticks relentlessly to their platform, its necessity and the price of a second Obama term. A strictly anti-Obama campaign will be easily countered by Dem negative campaigning – an issueless campaign is their dream which they hope for (sound familiar)
Extremist – radical ideas the accuser agrees with
Visionary – radical ideas the proponent agrees with
One problem is the leftist education system has, as other have stated, tuned the ear to the “progressive” rhetoric and sees anything else as well, extremist. This is the challenge for the electorate, to get them to tune their ears to the idea that their taxes will go up at the same time as their standard of living goes down. We will see.
I’ve watched presidential elections since Eisenhower and never have I seen such a racist, class-divisive campaign as currently being waged by the Democrats. How or why anyone with any brain at all could buy in to the Dem’s rhetoric is beyond my comprehension. They truly are despicable. The only salvation for the American people in the near term is to turf these left-wing zealots out. Now.
Instead of the GOP, how about the GUP: GROWN UP PARTY?
Go, R & R!

WOW, can he really really mean this: that government creates and nurtures entrepreneurship?
WELL, no, of course not. Sultan Knish explains.
MND, I found this paragraph below from the Sultan’s article quite telling and very chilling.
“There is not a single Obama voter anywhere in the land who believes that another four years of him will make this country better. Not a single one from coast to coast. No, what they believe is that he will make the country a worse place for those people that they hate. That he will have four more years to sink their ideas deeper in the earth, regardless of how many families go hungry and how many fathers kill themselves because they can no longer take care of their families. What they believe is that Obama will grant their group more special privileges and the rest of the country can go to hell.”
In some ways this is related to the “But Glen Beck is the Crazy One” thread above.
What pok said. The knives are out for Mr. Ryan and it has hardly been a day since he was announced as Romney’s running mate.
NV53, I’ve never understood why people would call their politicians stupid and then demand they run each aspect of the electorate’s lives. These people are contradictory.
The USA will experience an all out civil/race war within 20 years,by Obama playing divisive racial politics he is all but guaranteeing it will happen. When the day comes that the country can no longer afford the massive welfare spending [and that day IS coming],when the food stamp program is no longer affordable and the other social programs funded by the individual states,IE:section eight Housing assistance, can no longer be afforded all hell will break loose. When 49% of the population pay no taxes yet demand increasing levels of entitlements the bubble has to burst at some point. When this happens and it will unless there is a total rationalization of social programs and government policy a civil/race war will be inevitable.
“He does not want to reform entitlements. He wants to eliminate them. He wants to eliminate them because he doesn’t believe they are a legitimate function of government.”
