A nation of glitches

Well, hey, I guess its worth it if it keeps us all safe, right?

Crouch is quadruple vaccinated, has not tested positive for COVID-19 and is showing no symptoms. The border guard who waved him back into Canada last week said nothing about getting a COVID test, or quarantine, but when he got home he found an email and a notification in his ArriveCan app, telling him to stay home for two weeks.

“It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when Minister Mendicino says ArriveCan will reduce border delays. But it will not be due to technology, it will be due to reduced volume.”

Put Your Trust In The Experts

The damage done to public trust in institutions by these despicable, dishonest desk doctors will be generational. And rightfully so.

Dr. Deborah Birx, who served in the Trump administration as part of the Covid response team, has admitted in her book and before Congress that much of the guidance issued to mitigate the pandemic was arbitrary. In her book Silent Invasion, she discusses the planning that went into an essential component of the strategy to handle Covid, one that has been roundly mocked: two weeks to stop the spread. The data used to back it up was from other countries, and Birx intentionally obfuscated her intentions for a robust lockdown.

Birx writes in her book, she writes about assembling a team that she could “trust” to “look at the numbers and provide unvarnished analysis free from a hidden or political agenda. There would be no groupthink within my inner circle.” But after deciding to trust the data, Birx noted that the “CDC didn’t have the demographic data [she] was looking for. Worse, the data it did have would never help paint an accurate picture of this pandemic outbreak.” […]

Despite not having adequate data, Birx pushed ahead with her plans to convince Trump and his advisors to go along with her mitigation plans. She writes that in March 2020, she met with the President, and her plan was to obfuscate her intentions for economic shutdowns, knowing that Trump was wary of anything that would tank the economy he had worked so hard to build.

“I couldn’t do anything that would reveal my true intention,” she writes, “to use the travel ban as one brick in the construction of a larger wall of protective measures we needed to enact very soon.” Trump’s team was more concerned about the impacts and potential for loss of lives to Americans of shutting society down. She blasts the administration for their concerns over the economy, concerns which have played out in real time to the point where the country could be facing devastating impacts, as is the globe.

A memory hole gem

Who remembers glowing accounts like these in the left-wing corporate media in the early days of the pandemic?

Australia has become a pandemic success story. The nation of 26 million is close to eliminating community transmission of the coronavirus, having defeated a second wave just as infections surge again in Europe and the United States.

“I never thought we would really get to zero, which is amazing,” said Sharon Lewin, the Melbourne-based director of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, which provided forecasts in February that formed the basis of the Australian government’s response. “I’ve been going out nonstop, booking restaurants, shopping, getting my nails done and my hair cut.”

NIH Records Reveal FBI Inquiry of Wuhan Grant

Judicial Watch announced today that it received 1651 pages of records from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) revealing an FBI “inquiry” into the NIH’s controversial bat coronavirus grant tied to the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The records also show National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) officials were concerned about “gain-of-function” research in China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology in 2016. The Fauci agency was also concerned about EcoHealth Alliance’s lack of compliance with reporting rules and use of gain-of-function research in the NIH-funded research involving bat coronaviruses in Wuhan, China.

It doesn’t feel like much of a story anymore. I get the sense that governments, media and academia have quietly accepted that Covid-19 was a lab leak, and they’re going to let that messy little factoid fade into the background undisturbed and unaddressed, as though nothing about it was extraordinary.

And after a time, we’ll be told by experts that test tube pandemics are just a small price to pay so that governments can keep us Safe® from the more deadly natural pandemics, and that only dangerous extremists and science deniers would even raise the question of accountability.

Comments from a federal cabinet minister suggest a controversial government travel app is set to become permanent.

And changes quietly rolled out on Tuesday to both the ArriveCAN smartphone and its website suggest the app is being rolled into ongoing efforts to modernize Canada’s ports of entry.

Speaking in Windsor on Tuesday, Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino said the app — designed to ostensibly streamline entry into Canada by allowing travellers to upload proof of mandatory COVID-19 vaccination — had potential to find greater use in processing cross-border travellers.

“ArriveCAN was originally created for COVID-19, but it has technological capacity beyond that, to shrink the amount of time that is required when you’re getting screened at the border,” Mendicino told reporters.
