When your currency starts to outpace the Japanese Yen in the race to get to the bottom of the dirty laundry pile, you just know that’s not a good outcome.
Net short Canadian dollar positions held by non-commercial accounts stood at $12.5 billion in the latest weekly data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission that was released on Friday….
It was the highest net short position for a second straight week of any currency traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the largest in the loonie since December 2024.

Carney is a screw up of biblical proportions.
“The Bank of Canada has cut its 2026 growth forecast for Canada’s economy to 0.7% from 1.2%”
Inflation adjusted per capita income growth has been at zero for the last 10 years. I think BoC is overly optimistic.
We grow .7% in Canadian dollars and the dollar loses 2% in value. Remind me what the net effect is.
“I think BoC is overly optimistic.”
They’re smoking their lunch.
Good thing we have a renowned international bankster as our Prime Minister, who will tell you he knows what to do, because he did exactly the same thing as every other bankster in the 2008 financial crisis.
Canadian dollars… that’s the asset I don’t keep.
Convince me that your country isn’t intentionally devaluing your currency? Investors appear to believe so.
If we didn’t devalue we would have 30% negative growth since Trudeau came to power.
Carney and his Forever Government aren’t giving Canadians and their money much choice but to stay in Canada.
Considering all his Big Brother Surveillance Bills, I wonder how long till there’s no choice at all.
ahem. let me fill it in here for youse to save time:
blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump
blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump
blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump
blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump blame Trump
Trump’s a bully!
There … I fixed it for you. Because “anti-bullying” has canceled the First Amendment. If Trump hurts someone’s feelings … then he’s not suited to lead … and he needs to be CANCELED.
They’ve tried. Repeatedly.
“The Bank of Canada has cut its 2026 growth forecast for Canada’s economy to 0.7% from 1.2%, pointing to uncertainties related to U.S. trade policy and the war in the Middle East.”
I’ll wager a bet that this “growth” is only on paper; it has not factored in the 8 percent devaluation of inflation. And how come BoC only blames “uncertainties” for the dismal forecast?
How about the certainties: an economy strangled by regulation and corruption; a tax system designed to confiscate and punish; a cowardly and compromised official opposition; a childish electorate that refuses to swallow anything except the pablum served up by our government propagandists.
Feel free to add.
Canada is perceived as one of the least corrupt countries in the world, more so than even the US. And I think that perception is correct. In all my decades in business, I never saw a serious instance of corruption from government or anyone else.
https://www.transparency.org/en/cpi/2025
And Canada is one of the economically freest countries in the world, again even ahead of the US:

Sure.
Jamie
The fat incel is correct, my BULL agrees with him.
The bull shit so!
Don’t call GYM a cheap man whore, he may hit you with his bag of quarters…
Apparently they never heard of Juthtin Trudeau and his “government” funnelling billions to Liberal supporters just during the Wuhan Scamdemic alone.
Do you really think spending over 1 billion for 6 FIFA soccer games isn’t corruption?
How about “VIP’s” getting free tickets?
What about Carney’s f*cking airline food bills?
Doling out entitlements beyond the pale is thievery and that’s corruption.
Public servants who don’t go to work but get paid is corruption.
Changing riding borders just before an election so you can oust the opposition leader is corruption.
Infrastructure or defence banks bank? Corruption.
Appointing Chicoms as senators? Corruption.
Not producing your investments BEFORE an election as required by law? Corruption.
Quebec getting more than everyone else – and some provinces never getting any? That’s GD corruption!
Jesus wept.
I live in Ottawa.
I see it.
I could go on for hours.
The gerrymandering that goes on in the US is grotesque. They’re not even trying to deny it anymore.
The Canadian methods of political districting, carried out by independent commissions (in some provinces, judges), is about a thousand times better.
Absolute BS.
Canada outscores the US on “Government integrity” and “Judicial effectiveness”? Don’t make me laugh…
I find the US judicial system severly lacking.
Compared to what? Kanuckistan’s?
It should make you cry. Both countries suffer from a politicization of the judicial system.
“It should make you cry. Both countries suffer from a politicization of the judicial system.”
They do now, but that wasn’t always the case. The Canadian government spent millions of dollars prosecuting a grandmother for mischief while keeping her in jail as long as possible; rapists and murderers get bail, but Tamara Lich was just *way too dangerous* to allow to walk the streets. Now they are spending even more millions of dollars to appeal her sentence because they want to give her SEVEN YEARS. For mischief.
l say it again, it would delight me if some very secretive gazillionaire took it upon themselves to create an intelligence network, find out where the judgey judges and crown attys lived, corrupt thumb up their ass cops, corrupt to the core politishuns, and in one ‘night of the long knives’ had them all blown to bits and assassinated.
THEN via media, and 100s of web sites and also foreign based media, publish ALL the ‘dirty laundry’ spelling out every dirty little ‘secret’ wire taps, videos, bank records. the entire filthy godam show.
step 1 is to create a communications network with 256 bit encryption with a digital form of enigma. custom made cell phones, landlines, laptops etc.
ah we can dream cant we?
That’s like reading a Daily Mail Article claiming Gary Indiana has the highest quality of life in the USA … by some idiotic metrics … like the houses are dirt cheap because nobody wants to live there.
Feel free to present your own evidence.
Very well! EXHIBIT A!! [Drops trousers. Courtroom gasps.]
sooooooo is this just an opinion poll or based on such things as fraud investigations, and if based on that, is the tally low, with high or low levels of investigation?
how ROBUST are the ethics regulations *and* their enforcement?
And Canada is one of the leading producers of bullshit statistics!
Canada has had a better balance of payments (the total amount of currency coming in and going out of the country) as a percent of GDP than the US for some time now. Currency supply and demand would seem to suggest that the loony should rise against the American dollar.
As well, purchasing power parity would also seem to support a rising Canadian dollar, as goods are cheaper in Canada than the US after converting to a common currency. US businesses should be buying Canadian goods at Canadian prices until the price advantage disappears due to a rising loony.
Why then does the loony keep losing ground? Likely sentiment. Lately, at least, Canada’s biggest trading partner seems intent on grinding the Canadian economy into the dirt.
“Lately, at least, Canada’s biggest trading partner seems intent on grinding the Canadian economy into the dirt.”
And Canada’s government keeps deliberately provoking them to do so.
How dare Canada defend itself. It’s just asking for more of the same.
Yep. Good ol’ Kanuckistan, defending itself into bankruptcy, financial oblivion and turd world status.
But we sure showed the bastards by not giving in!!!
Get a grip…
I’m not sure which is the most amazing to me.
The extraordinary stupidity of Donald Trump, whose actions jeopardize not just the economy of Canada, but the US as well.
Or the sight of Canadians cheering him on.
Yeah, let’s just keep poking that bear with a stick. What could possibly go wrong?
It’s Trump who keeps poking Canada.
New tariffs, refusing to open bridges, threatening to punish Canada over fire smoke, you name it.
you betcha, pick a bar fight with someone 10 times your size, and faster.
yep. IF the intent is to wreck Canaduh as claimed in some corners, what *might* be a provocative response? threats? regtaliation?
Canada didn’t pick this fight. Trump did. It started on February 1, 2025, when Trump announced 25% tariffs on most Canadian imports, and 10% tariffs on Canadian energy products.
I remember the last time this happened. It was in the late 80’s. American speculators were shorting the Canadian dollar. Then The Bank of Canada unexpectedly hiked the interest rates all most of the speculators lost their shirts.
That said, the US dollar has been trending upward against all currencies over the past year. Canada is trading lower against the US dollar but about even with other major currencies. Trump is currently proving a large number of economists wrong. I’m curious to see how this ends.
Trump should want the US dollar to fall. That would make US goods more competitive on world markets, both stimulating the economy and improving the US balance of trade.
ya. following that logic, shucks, lets drive the $Cdn down to, oh, say $US0.05 mkay?
the other downside to a low dollar, for those firms buying goods overseas as part of their business model, a low dollar drives up their prices.
everything the same, l want a high exchange rate.
What a stupid, juvenile reply. Here was Trump’s reaction when the value of the dollar fell earlier this year. Even he knows some macroeconomics:
https://www.reuters.com/world/trump-says-value-dollar-is-great-2026-01-27/
When a thread on economics/trade/ or economy is trending, one should always read in it as the Killer alla S unDORK is sure to provide comedic entertainment.
You’re quite a joke yourself there GYMmy!
