The University of Southern California’s school of social work will no longer use the word “field” in its curriculum, saying it may have racist “connotations.”

USC’s Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work said the change was critical to support anti-racist social work and inclusivity.

The department specifically decided to remove the word “field” from its curriculum and replace it with “practicum,” according to the letter, which was dated Jan. 9 and shared to Twitter.

“This change supports anti-racist social work practice by replacing language that would be considered anti-Black or anti-immigrant in favor of inclusive language,” the letter said.

The letter continued: “Language can be powerful, and phrases such as ‘going into the field’ or ‘field work’ maybe have connotations for descendants of slavery and immigrant workers that are not benign.”

Saskatchewan has seen another record number of lives lost to fatal drug overdoses in 2022, according to preliminary data reported in January.

Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service estimates that there were 421 confirmed and suspected drug toxicity deaths in 2022, an increase from the now-confirmed record-setting 410 deaths in 2021.

It’s almost as though the culture of enablement isn’t working.

[James] Cameron is one of Hollywood’s most eco-aware celebrities, and he’s putting millions into that sentiment. He made his “Way of Water” cast go vegan, invested in plant-based food initiatives and is spending his Hollywood capital on message projects like “The Game Changers.”

Respect the environment … or else. Except he hasn’t stopped there.

Recently, Cameron extolled the pregnant female warriors in “The Way of Water,” saying they trump the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it comes to female empowerment. Next, he blasted male testosterone, calling it a “toxin” that needs to be purged from the body.

None of that woke messaging protected him from even more woke critics.

For years, two administrators at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ) have been withholding notifications of National Merit awards from the school’s families, most of them Asian, thus denying students the right to use those awards to boost their college-admission prospects and earn scholarships.

This episode has emerged amid the school district’s new strategy of “equal outcomes for every student, without exception.” School administrators, for instance, have implemented an “equitable grading” policy that eliminates zeros, gives students a grade of 50 percent just for showing up, and assigns a cryptic code of “NTI” for assignments not turned in. It’s a race to the bottom.

An intrepid Thomas Jefferson parent, Shawna Yashar, a lawyer, uncovered the withholding of National Merit awards. Since starting as a freshman at the school in September 2019, her son, who is part Arab American, studied statistical analysis, literature reviews, and college-level science late into the night. This workload was necessary to keep him up to speed with the advanced studies at TJ, which U.S. News & World Report ranks as America’s top school.

Last fall, along with about 1.5 million U.S. high school juniors, the Yashar teen took the PSAT, which determines whether a student qualifies as a prestigious National Merit scholar. When it came time to submit his college applications this fall, he didn’t have a National Merit honor to report — but it wasn’t because he hadn’t earned the award.

CTV- Millennium Library not scheduled to reopen next week, no timetable set

The library has been closed since Dec. 11 following the stabbing death of 28-year-old Tyree Cayer inside the building.

Four teens between the ages of 14 and 16 have been charged in connection to his death – three are facing a manslaughter charge, while the fourth has been charged with second-degree murder.

Metal detectors used to be installed and bag searches started in 2019 after police warned about weapons in and around the library.

But following backlash from community advocates, the scanners were removed.

Maybe you should put them back in?

Following the homicide, Millennium for All – one of the community advocates that raised concerns about the metal detectors – tweeted, “We remain committed to evidence-based strategies for safety that are rooted in inclusion, anti-racism, and harm reduction, and we encourage council to fund them.”

Not mentioned in the story is that cops now have a whole floor of the parkade to themselves – “Winnipeg city council has approved a plan to give police officers exclusive secure access to the Millennium Library parkade.”

He’s in position to shape the flow of speech in America at highest level, effecting the interactions and sightlines to information for millions of people. Has power to help cut off the President of the United States from his primary vehicle of digital communication to citizens…

What happens when you prioritize letting criminals out of jail and mix that with extreme support for sanctuary city policies?

You end up with Los Angeles, which now plans to let criminals off the hook if they also happen to be in the country illegally.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon has instructed prosecutors to now consider immigration status when it comes to charging criminals with crimes. According to the policy, “All charging determinations shall be undertaken with the goal of avoiding or mitigating the adverse immigration consequences of a decision.”

The policy even encourages people under criminal investigation to contact Gascon’s office and “present information concerning adverse immigration consequences” before charges are handed down so he can give them a slap on the wrist instead.

Say what you want about Democrats, they know how to take care of their voters.
