In other words, it’s the perfect leftist two-step in the Age of Obama: Say one thing, do the exact opposite. Pretend to be reasonable and then sucker-punch your opponent. Preach civility (come on — you knew that was a joke, right?) and break out the Hitler mustaches. Swear to faithfully execute the laws of the United States and then pull the rug out from under the Defense of Marriage Act. Genius!
As I’ve explained elsewhere, it’s all a part of our allegiance to a Higher Power — which is ourselves and our own base appetites. You Judeo-Christian creeps often accuse us of having no moral center, no guiding philosophy, no soaring, overarching ethos, but that’s a dirty lie. Of course we do, and here it is:

As regular readers will have noticed, this blog has dedicate a fair number of electrons in recent weeks to multiculturalism. We are at the beginning stages in Canada of a cultural war, between those seeking to maintain the Big Lie of multiculturalism, and those seeking to defend Canadian culture and tradition. The former is – at best – a dangerously naive idea that all cultures are of equal objective value. The latter is a system of values that upholds individual rights, separation of church and state, free speech, rule of law and a basic market economy.
What is going on in Canada is only one small episode in a wider struggle across the western world. It is as if, on its deathbed, the nations of Europe and North America began to question the path that had lead them hence. In Germany, France and Britain there have been official rebukes to multiculturalism. So far these have only been pro forma declarations of what the general public had already come to understand, but was often afraid to say openly.
It will take decades of fighting to remove multiculturalism, and its fountainhead moral relativism, from the sinews of western nations…
What began as a plea for those most western of values, equality before the law and objectivity, is now ending, decades later, in the quagmire of affirmative action, and calls for Sharia law being supported by the Archbishop of Canterbury. There was a subtle shift in the justification for our immigration policies. Instead of trying to seek out the best immigrants for Canada, our policies transformed themselves into a quest to remake Canadian society. There was nothing special about Canada or the Canadian way. We were just another country. Our values were not better than anyone else’s values. Discrimination on the basis of cultural values, then, was no different than discrimination on racial grounds.
The philosophical idea at the heart of multiculturalism is relativism. It is a complete rejection of objectivity. There is no truth in this view. No right and wrong…
Once enough of the western ruling class had accepted the idea that objectivity was impossible, that all values were subjective to the individual or perhaps a particular group, the West became deaf and dumb. It could not object to barbarism abroad (a foreign policy based on appeasement), or barbarism at home (immigrants from primitive cultures unwilling to integrate). Faced with crises after crises, the West’s response has been apology and retreat…
…It’s easy enough to say that all cultures are equal, if you live in an area surrounded by civilized men and women. Just like it’s easier to be a socialist if you’re rich [that means you, Jack and Olivia]. You don’t pay the price. I just got back from the recording of the weekly TV show of my friend, David Berner. This week he was interviewing retired Justice Wallace Gilby Craig. To say that Justice Craig “gets it”, while so many other justice officials do not, would be the understatement of the century!

The bulk of these “excess” murders occur not among gun toting rednecks, but in urban ghettoes during drug related turf wars. The typical American, who is not a resident of a housing project, or involved in the hard drug trade, is about as safe as any Canadian. America’s blighted inner cities are about as indicative of America, as Canada’s aboriginal reserves are indicative of this country…
Americans are “hostile to opposing viewpoints?” Ever tried questioning the value of Medicare at a Toronto cocktail party? Or fourth-year humanities seminar? Or over a water cooler? It’s been a generation since Canada has any serious public debate on abortion. Who’s afraid of opposing viewpoints?..
The obsession with registration and control by the Left, on both sides of the 49th, manifests both a vast ambition and dangerous naivety. Rather than confront an uncertain world, – where illness, unemployment and all manner of injustice lurk – with a sober eye and cautious attitude, the Left calls for the abolition of uncertainty. This earlier post generated a lot of interesting discussion about the venomous hatred so many on the Left feel towards Sarah Palin. To be clear, there’s nothing wrong with not liking her or not supporting her running for POTUS one day, but what’s occurring in the hearts & minds of many Leftists is much, much more than mere dislike.
In the earlier piece, Evan Sayet explained his theory about the hatred. Now “Robin of Berkeley”, a self-proclaimed recovered liberal, gives her take, very much from a female perspective. It’s a fascinating read.

Why Does the Left Hate Sarah Palin So Much?
Evan Sayet, arguably most famous for this video, has a new piece out entitled Why the Left Hates Sarah Palin.
Incidentally, the feelings of many on the Left towards Palin is clearly not just mere dislike but absolutely is hatred. If she were African American, what would be a good term to describe those with such feelings?

Update: A common tactic of Leftist trolls like this one is to say something like “there are extremists on both sides but I’ve never seen or heard any major pundits on the Left say anything outrageous”. How is it that this past week one could conveniently ignore Krugman, Moulitsas, Olbermann, Matthews, Dionne, Clinton, and the entire NY Times Editorial staff? This is the true “Climate of Hate” in our culture. But this tiny sampling of examples from this past week is but a mere drop in the bucket of what has happened in the past.

I Can Hear The Civility From My House
Sarah Palin takes aim on her Facebook page;
President Reagan said, “We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.” Acts of monstrous criminality stand on their own. They begin and end with the criminals who commit them, not collectively with all the citizens of a state, not with those who listen to talk radio, not with maps of swing districts used by both sides of the aisle, not with law-abiding citizens who respectfully exercise their First Amendment rights at campaign rallies, not with those who proudly voted in the last election.
The last election was all about taking responsibility for our country’s future. President Obama and I may not agree on everything, but I know he would join me in affirming the health of our democratic process. Two years ago his party was victorious. Last November, the other party won. In both elections the will of the American people was heard, and the peaceful transition of power proved yet again the enduring strength of our Republic.
Vigorous and spirited public debates during elections are among our most cherished traditions. And after the election, we shake hands and get back to work, and often both sides find common ground back in D.C. and elsewhere. If you don’t like a person’s vision for the country, you’re free to debate that vision. If you don’t like their ideas, you’re free to propose better ideas. But, especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn. That is reprehensible.

Kerry said, “Or I could have gone to 1600 Pennsylvania and killed the real bird with one stone.” (This is the same Kerry who joked in 1988, “Somebody told me the other day that the Secret Service has orders that if George Bush is shot, they’re to shoot Quayle.”) Also in 2006, the New York comptroller, Alan Hevesi, spoke to graduating students at Queens College. He said that his fellow Democrat, Sen. Charles Schumer, would “put a bullet between the president’s eyes if he could get away with it.”
