We got a 35yo guy working at Twitter since his late 20s. Swarthmore Political Science + Film & Media Studies, UPenn PhD in Communication. Aspen Institute’s “Commission on Information Disorder”; researcher at Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center’s “Dangerous Speech Project”, etc., etc.

He’s in position to shape the flow of speech in America at highest level, effecting the interactions and sightlines to information for millions of people. Has power to help cut off the President of the United States from his primary vehicle of digital communication to citizens…

        It’s certainly the favourite U.S.-based one. When I was at the University of Alberta lo those many years ago, the functional equivalent was getting a degree in “Education.” They were all so cute, with their 4.0 GPAs they were so proud of, especially when they were assigned, during their final year, slim introductory books on the theory of knowledge or somesuch (which would’ve been a book of average complexity for, say, a first-year philosophy student), and they’d bitch endlessly that it was 150 pages long and oh so hard to read.

        It would’ve been funnier if it hadn’t been the case that their high-GPA averages tended to vacuum up all the grant and scholarship money that could’ve gone to people actually studying something challenging, like the hard sciences, engineering, medicine, etc.

Its only a matter of time before this power becomes another tool in the toolbox.. Political movements with their own set of rules and regulations must be seen as another set of law books.. White supremacy, climate justice, racism and gender are all used to craft policy without any basis in actual law.. Politics is now the law of the land..

    Free Speech…is….(drum roll) Free Speech. The ONLY time Free Speech should be curtailed in any fashion is relative to public safety. For example, the ole “Shouting Fire in a Movie Theater (when there is no fire).” Beyond that you should be able to insult, chastise, spout out all forms of disturbing stupidity, compliment, label, HATE, accuse (with an IMO qualifier), barb, slur, jibe, malign….etc.

    Roth’s “education” is in fact tailored for censorship. It is to chip away at an absolute.
