The Times still has too many reporters;
In all, the Times’ four Dershowitz stories of the past six days have involved four different desks, six different bylines, and a total of eight Times journalists (with two given bottom-of-story credit lines for reporting assists).

New York Times Reassigns Reporter Who Had Sexual Relationship With Source
The decision caps a lengthy Times review of Watkins’ behavior with Senate Intelligence committee aide James Wolfe. Wolfe was arrested for lying to the FBI in a leak investigation and his private relationship with Watkins came to light after Watkins’ emails and private correspondence with him were seized by the feds.
In his statement, Baquet also expressed his disapproval for how the situation was handled.
“As an institution, we abhor the actions of the government in this case. Without notice, investigators rummaged through years of a journalist’s phone and email records, an intrusion that puts First Amendment protections at risk,” he said. “It is clear that the government leak investigation was an attempt to interfere with the work of journalists by an administration whose leader has called the media ‘the enemy of the people.’”
So, Trump’s fault.

On Sunday, The New York Times ran a front-page, 2,000-word report on how “conservatives weaponized the First Amendment.” Now, you might ask yourself why the most famous press institution in American history is questioning the wisdom of the First Amendment. You might also ask yourself how conservatives could have weaponized a freedom. This is sort of like saying that law-abiding citizens weaponized the right to be free of unreasonable search and seizure. But according to the Times’ Adam Liptak, conservatives have twisted the definition of free speech to enhance their own political goals.
Quoting execrable Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan, Liptak explains that conservatives have been “weaponizing the First Amendment” through decisions that recognize the rights of non-union members, religious Americans, and people who want to spend money on elections
“It was all fake.”
The kid in the cage, staring forlornly out from his literally padded cell in the company of children wearing $69.95 Vans Sk8-Hi shoes? Fake. The picture of TRUMP CHILD CONCENTRATION CAMPS? It was from President Obama’s administration. The refugee child crying on the cover of TIME while Trump looks on with disdain? Not a refugee, and never separated from her family.
But if the coverage was entirely fake, the motive behind it was tiresomely real. After two years of trying every avenue of attack possible, the media has learned NAZI FUHRER DRUMPPPPPPFFFF’s weak spot: he is sentimental and doesn’t like to make people unhappy. The whole point of the fake-cage tempest-in-a-teapot was to get Trump to move the line on immigration a bit. Which he did, promptly stating that he would work to overturn the 1997-era legislation that governs the separate detention of children. Approximately an hour after he agreed to that, the media line changed.

The data shows that trust in the media is heavily influenced by partisan politics, with Republicans more skeptical of mainstream media than their Democratic and Independent counterparts. Other studies from Gallup and Pew Research Center have drawn similar conclusions.
They’re not skeptics. They’re lie detectors.

As the Canadian explainer class tweets apoplectic rage…
The jobless rate inched down to 3.8% in May, another sign of the strong economy and tight labor market. That tied the lowest unemployment rate since 1969. Since then, the only other time unemployment was this low was in April 2000.
The economy added 223,000 jobs, better than economists expected.
“The US economy has this incredible head of steam,” said Josh Wright, chief economist at the software firm iCIMS.
The economy been expanding for almost nine years, the second-longest streak on record. And employers have added jobs every month for seven and a half years.
Wages grew 2.7% in May compared with a year earlier.
Grab your winnamins and hide the Ju-Ju bones. I thought this was going to be an issue when Prime Minister Trudeau publicly told reporters the content of a private conversation between Vice-President Mike Pence and himself. With incredibly bad diplomatic form, Justin from Canada has not only cemented the Steel and Aluminum tariffs as permanent – but Trudeau has likely destroyed any hope of the U.S. remaining in NAFTA.

Full Frontal’s Feckless Apology
They’re sorry and they meant it.
It was “inappropriate and inexcusable” and entirely scripted and prerecorded, and TBS’s standards & practices division (aka, the network censors) allowed the show to air, presumably after previewing it. As Sean Davis tweets, “If the Turner non-reaction so far is any guide, Roseanne’s big mistake was putting her comments on Twitter instead of in her show’s script. The fact that a whole network reviewed, approved, promoted, and aired Bee’s scripted slur is the best protection Bee could ever buy,” adding that “The Roseanne and Samantha Bee scandals aren’t comparable. Roseanne wrote something on Twitter and her show was immediately cancelled. In the case of Samantha Bee, an entire network’s legal and editorial team knew exactly what Bee would say, approved it, and broadcast it.”

…the public broadcaster’s repackaging of Lamoureux’s exclusive was far from the first time it had been accused of re-reporting another outlet’s scoop without credit. CANADALAND, through online searches and interviews with journalists at other outlets, has found that the CBC often appears to go out of its way to avoid crediting others’ scoops — by independently verifying information from another outlet, the CBC frequently sidesteps acknowledgement of the original source.
“They do it all the time. Just last week, [Globe and Mail reporter] Sean Silcoff had an exclusive on new IP policy two days ahead of the announcement,” Robert Fife, The Globe’s Ottawa bureau chief, said in a recent email. “The following day, it was ‘CBC has learned’ that same story that was published on the front page of Report on Business.
So, global warming is going to cause volcanos in Canada? Our state broadcaster literally broadcast that. They’ll say anything to please their political master, Justin Trudeau. They’ll look like utter fools. But they’ll get their $1.5B/year. https://t.co/EBUYbWGCy8
