That’s only really half of the story. Brian Ross did the unthinkable. He fell for a fake leak used to solidify the James Wolfe indictment (which is where the false Flynn information he used came from). In essence, Ross not only helped serve up a perpetual leaker of classified information, but he also made the Trump Administration look good in the process. That doesn’t make friends in the media industry.
Addendum: My guess is that ABC is trying to protect themselves from a future civil suit filed by Flynn. He’s pretty much lost all his savings in this fiasco, and the rumor is that his plea was based on altered FBI 302 forms (a la Andy McCabe). But, there is an outside chance of criminal prosecution on Ross as well. There is legal precedent that the protection of journalists only applies if they do not break the law themselves, or encourage/direct others to do so. Keep in mind that the FBI investigation into James Wolfe had been going on for months, and it included the acquisition of his private email account as well as at least one of the reporters involved (Ali Watkins).
We have had fake news directed at us for decades from the progressives and it is only because it has become more blatant that they are slipping up and getting caught.

Consequences? Consequences would be Brian Ross having to watch people like Steve Bannon and Milo Yiannopoulos win Pulitzer prizes, while he had to blog about it between Uber shifts from his mother’s basement or a bedsit in the most “diverse” and “vibrant” and “pre-gentrified” part of town, because lawsuits had stripped him bare of every cent he’d ever made lying to the American public.
Justice means getting what you deserve. In Ross’s case, that means dying destitute and forgotten, except as an example of what happens to liars and slanderers.
The thing is, it isn’t just the fake news, it’s the whole slant of how the MSM interprets the news.
Antifa and BLM openly instigate violent uprisings with massive destruction of property and some personal injuries, and yet no one is taken to task for being Antifa or BLM members or even organizers. The MSM considers what Antifa and BLM are known to have committed as quite legitimate “protests”, and excuses their members even when the latter commit violent crimes.
On the other hand, the Tea Party has been the tamest of massive movements. It leaves parks cleaner after its gatherings than before. It has never even raised its voice against adversaries, who were the ones who sought it out and try to provoke it. And yet the Tea Party is hounded not only by the MSM as neo nazis, but persecuted by the IRS and FBI as well.
The point is, so what if some shooter were a member of the Tea Party? I am sure it does not vet its membership, and has no obligation to do so, any more than Antifa or BLM, or even Democrats or Republicans. Someone could join the Tea Party in the mistaken belief (that he got from the MSM) that it was a violent organization, and looked for it to support his own derangement. He is disappointed in that, and goes on to commit the violence by himself. That in no way indicts the Tea Party as violent. Quite the contrary.
And yet the MSM would have seized on that as proof that the entire Tea Party is violent, facts to the contrary. To wit, EVERY SINGLE MEMBER of the Tea Party is required to be squeaky clean. One single transgression by one single member would be enough, for the MSM, to indict the movement. On the other hand, despite the fact that illegal aliens commit much more crime, per capita, than Americans, ONE SINGLE valedictorian among them would have been enough for the MSM to exonerate every last one of them.
