But Quebec gets to play that game and keep the money. Alberta doesn’t?

It’s only 38 seconds so how offensive could this be? I’m not a great fan of the guy, but the left usually is, and this can be served on their plate.
I don’t know if the Notwithstanding Clause applies to this referendum, as it isn’t a law but it is a vote, and I’m for using the Notwithstanding Clause on all legislation, including the most mundane legislation of changing the design on our vehicle license plates.
Very prescient…as always
Reading about this leads me to believe that:
1. Currently the court concedes that First Nations holds authority over the Canadian people.
2. By their own argument, however, it is proven that First Nations, are legally, not Canadian people.
3. On appeal, the ruling should be clear:
First Nations have no standing in this issue as they are not Canadian.
You are looking for legal reasons in Canada??? Because the Party says so is the only law.
Decision rendered by Justice Shaina C. Leonard, a LIberal-appointed judge (David Lametti, 2020).
A speed bump on the highway to independence – good thing the speed limit’s been increased to 120kph.
I’ve heard of hanging judges but I’d really like to see one.
Welcome to the Hotel California -Where you can check in but never leave. I think this type of move is a big miscalculation. There will be more and it is exactly what pushes Alberta to succeed. Good. Saskatchewan next. https://www.bing.com/search?q=hotel+california&form=ANNTH1&refig=6a050fb67f1f4ebea36b0cf88e1c523d&pc=ACTS&pq=hotel+california&pqlth=16&assgl=16&sgcn=hotel+california&qs=MB&sgtpv=LS&smvpcn=0&swbcn=12&sctcn=0&sc=12-16&sp=1&ghc=0&cvid=6a050fb67f1f4ebea36b0cf88e1c523d&clckatsg=1&hsmssg=0
I think this was #3 on my list as to why Alberta will never be allowed independence. On a positive note, however, the Treaty Agreement(s) (I think there are 3 separate agreements) were subject to two parties. The “indigenous” tribes and the Crown (Canadian Federal Governemnt). The Province was not a direct party to such a treaty. But, that’s not the goal, is it? The goal is to stall, draw it out, wear down those wanting independence and remove the fence sitters who think it would be too much trouble. This, already, stalls the signature verification.
This stall tactic will be applied every single little step of the way. The Clarity Act, on its own, will have atleast 3 issues that need to be clarified in the courts. What is a “clear majority of votes?” What does “clear will of the people” mean? There are at least 3 years of lawsuits and appeals right there. And, face it the Supreme Court of Canada is going to give the result that the Liberals want….not the result that the Albertans want.
Of course, you could say that Albertans will just leave anyway and ignore the courts. Well, then you better switch out your Premier…because she doesn’t even want to leave Canada, so she’ll go through the entire drawn out process like a good little neutered politician claiming to be on the Right.
” On a positive note, however, the Treaty Agreement(s) (I think there are 3 separate agreements) were subject to two parties. The “indigenous” tribes and the Crown (Canadian Federal Governemnt). The Province was not a direct party to such a treaty.”
The Crown is the King of Canada, Charles III. He is the current head of the Canadian state with a local Governor general acting as a representative. To be precise, the treaties are between the indigenous and the Crown, not the federal government. So… if Alberta remains a constitutional monarchy upon secession, the treaties will remain valid.
Alberta and Saskatchewan did not exist at the time of the treaties.
The courts??? For the love of God how many punches in the face do you need to get it? The Party is the law.
The only way you get to leave is to shoot your way out, and the sheep of Alberta will do that……never. I said a week or two ago, the reason the CAF are recruiting non citizens heavily is because they will shoot Canadians on command.
I’ll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I’ll get all my papers and smile at the sky
For I know that the hypnotized never lie
Welcome to America my Albertan friends. If America’s borders can be thrown open … we need to throw them open to you all. And yes, I have a mostly empty upstairs, and will take any Albertan refugee into my home … but you’d have to live in a communist State even more repulsive than Canada.
“Clovis man was not hell bent on moving to L.A.”
Louis Leakey circa 1979.
I think the answer for Danielle is simple and straight-forward; Thomas Lucasek (or however the f— you spell his name) submitted a petition on a referendum to “Keep Alberta in Canada” The, Premiere, and or the legislature, should declare that is the referendum question on October 19th. A NO vote will have consequences.
Thomas Lucasek (or however the f— you spell his name)
Easy peasy = Tommie the Commie
Your welcome.
That asshole never really fit in the Conservative Party but he has been around forever. He would be more at home with the Libs or Commies.
It’s my contention that Lukasiuk is being bankrolled by the LPC with his “Captain Canada” antics. Jason Kenny too. Both of them are “Joe Clark conservatives” anyways.
I’ve got two spare bedrooms and a bath here in…..New Jersey (sigh). I know conditions in Canada would have to be real bad to flee to …. NJ, but I could certainly take in a couple SDA regulars if need be. Back in the day, my town was a stop on the Underground Railroad for escaped slaves, so this would be along those same lines 🙂
The grifter Cree chief had no legal standing as a “First Nation”. The Cree came here following the Hudson’s Bay Company. The Cree are not indigenous to Alberta. This failed lawyer has no clue of history or the law.
Of course the Cree belong here. They killed several tribes of Dene to get a land base. Just like the white guys did.
Birthright Prisonership.
Aren’t you glad Sox took your guns away?
It was all in preparation for this moment.
You can almost smell the fear coming from the federal government. They know that Alberta, unlike Quebec, *could be* a viable country on their own…and worse than that, there would be very little stopping Saskatchewan from leaving as well.
I have always said that Canada could easily survive the separation of Quebec…..in fact, Canada would flourish without that millstone tied to our necks. But Canada would not survive the separation of Alberta because of the financial aspect as well as the geographic aspect. B.C. would be cut off from the rest of Canada and the western port would be cut off……that is the big bargaining chip. No pipelines across BC then no passage for freight across Alberta from BC ports.
The beauty of Quebec leaving is we could dump the Maritime Millstone. Without hanging on to Canada’s teat the eastern 5 provinces might actually make something of themselves as independent countries.
I agree. I’ve been saying the same thing myself for quite a while. The Rocky Mountains form a terrific natural barrier between Alberta and BC.. There are only three highways and three rail lines that make it through those mountains. It would be very easy to isolate B.C. and their ports from the rest of Canada. Actually much of northern B.C. and the interior are on Alberta’s side. It is the nutbar leftists in the lower mainland (Vancouver) and the southern end of Vancouver Island (Victoria) who are the problem. People say Alberta is landlocked but B.C. is landlocked away from Canada as well.
Hey, did any Creeple show enough sense to vote yes? I would imagine a fair amount of the younger generations might be interested in shedding resistance culture and becoming successful.
Also, isn’t a treaty violation wildly presumptive?
Theoretically I mean….
Yes, treaty violation is wildly presumptive. In fact, I suspect that Alberta would live up to the treaties far better than the Liberals ever have.
The system is established to preserve the state not the welfare of the nation.
Has been since prior to the Battle for Quebec.
It’s the subtext in the declaration of independence when they listed their grievances.
Canada was legislated into existence for one reason, to keep North America from becoming a rival to then British power (now European influence). When the US purchased Alaska the British and the Laurentian Elite in central Canada went code brown.
If even one province declared its independence its game over for this bastion of European colonialism.
The lesson here is that from all appearances the means to get there may be a unilateral declaration, the remainers will not bargain in good faith so make your case to the world.
Heaven knows the list is long and growing at this point.
Did Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month come early in Canada? Or is that every month in Alberta?
the banter at National Post ont he news story is telling.
exceeding emphasis on legalities, treaty rites, bla bla bla.
ignoring the FACT AB will HAVE TO uttery *ignore* it all and BARGE AHEAD to save itself when
Canaduh slides off that wet ice covered slope into the Liberal created abyss of crushing inescapable DEBT
