One Flu Out Of The Wuhan Nest

Roger Pielke Jr.

In early February 2020, four virologists — Kristian Andersen, Eddie Holmes, Robert Garry, and Andrew Rambaut — told each other and Anthony Fauci — then director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and member of President Trump’s just-created Coronavirus Task force — privately that a lab origin for SARS-CoV-2 looked plausible.

Weeks later the same group published a paper — “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2,” hereafter Proximal Origin — declaring flatly that “we do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible.”

That paper became the authoritative justification for treating the lab-leak hypothesis as a conspiracy theory and settled science. Fauci and NIH director Francis Collins promoted Proximal Origin from the White House to quash debate over COVID_19 origins, without ever disclosing that they helped set the paper in motion.[…]

This week, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) released two new batches of the group’s Slack messages — first batch (AM drop) and a second batch (PM drop} — spanning April 2020 through September 2021, with incredible details of how doubt never faded for the Proximal Origin gang, despite their public expressions to the contrary.

Authors coordinated with Intelligence Community And NIH;

Andersen told his co-authors he expected to “have a handler” beginning that week as the intelligence community’s 90-day review was underway. Holmes repeatedly referenced a source in China he called “my spy.” Following the leak of the DARPA DEFUSE proposal, which detailed a plan to insert furin cleavage sites into bat coronaviruses, the group discussed the need to “stay off email” and to “carefully curate” their correspondence “for the FOI records,” while also noting the need to “get something back to Tony [Fauci]’s team at NIH.”

And then there was other coordination.

The president of EcoHealth Alliance had just spent weeks in China as part of the World Health Organization’s team investigating the origins of COVID-19 — the mission that took him, however briefly, to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the lab his own organization had helped fund with U.S. taxpayer money. His flight was booked: Qatar Airways 701, Doha to New York’s JFK, landing February 5 at 2:25 p.m.

Waiting for him, on paper, was U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Until they weren’t.

Yuri Deigin had their number right out of the blocks: Wow, I saw 72 mentions of my name in those Slack messages.

When The FBI Does It, That Means That It’s Not Illegal

FoxNews;

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, issued a criminal referral of Smith on Wednesday, arguing newly released records contradict Smith’s testimony to his committee that he did not obtain or review lawmakers’ text messages during his multiple probes into President Donald Trump.

“All individuals have an obligation to comply with a duly authorized congressional inquiry. Mr. Smith, a former public servant, is no different,” Jordan wrote in a letter to acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on Wednesday. “Yet his testimony included intentionally false statements designed to obstruct the Committee’s oversight.”

“His conduct can only be understood as an effort to thwart the Committee’s inquiry by intentionally making false statements and representations before Congress,” Jordan continued, adding that the Justice Department should examine whether Smith’s actions warrant criminal charges.

Manitoba Grifters

What’s the phrase “I’m willing to entertain…” supposed to mean anyway? That he’s going to hold the project ransom at some point? It would be nice to hear “I enthusiastically endorse…” instead, but that would probably land him in hot water with the greenies.

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew says he’s open to a west-east pipeline being pitched by his counterparts in Alberta and Ontario.

But he says major projects like pipelines need to be built the right way, by addressing environmental concerns and bringing Indigenous governments on board.

What goes up is more than balloons

Pipeline Online Podcast Ep. 40: James Baker of Helium Evolution

Helium Evolution is an active player in the Saskatchewan helium space. Helium is one of the materials dramatically affected by the Iran War. James Baker is chair of Helium Evolution and one if its founders. It’s all about rockets, MRIs and high tech, not balloons.

Yes, but at least the United Nations got $8.5 million in Canadian taxpayer dollars to “establish an International Indigenous-led Fire Adaptation Network,” and “increase access to gender-responsive Integrated Fire Management training.”

Two of Ontario’s nine waterbombers are grounded for repairs as the province calls in help from across the country to battle for control of nearly 200 wildfires ripping through the north.

Questions from opponents and experts have lingered through the fire season about how many planes Ontario has from its own fleet available to fight, with questions and concerns about crewing and mechanical readiness.

The Ministry of Natural Resources indicated to Global News that two of its waterbombers were grounded for repairs but said there were no issues with staffing its fleet, claiming the rest of its planes are in use.

Things Can Always Get Worse

I’m blessed to know a number of Nicaraguans in the San Francisco Bay Area. They are all refugees from the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega, who is now dispensing with the illusion of elections.

All Americans should be very disturbed by Bernie Sanders’ close relationship with Ortega:
