Actually, I think that the American distaste for Britain is not about the “City”, it’s a lingering revulsion about colonialism and imperialism. Many American political and military leaders have had an anti British Empire and British Commonwealth streak (Admiral King, FDR, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, all of Foggy Bottom). They pushed against colonialism prematurely and made a total mess of things. In later years, Eisenhower realized that he had really screwed up in his handling of the Suez Crisis, which is at the root of many of our current troubles.
The ironic thing is that the US, despite its own ethos, has essentially become an imperial power. They’re just not very good at it. They could learn a thing or two from Britain of old. The current UK government is irrelevant.
