Corporate Canada’s Useful Idiot in Ottawa…

Might I suggest Mark J Carney take some advise about temporary foreign workers from his old boss?  He might learn a thing or two…

“Evidence began to accumulate that many temporary foreign workers were being hired for entry-level jobs that unemployed or underemployed Canadians might be doing, in sectors from fast-food to retail, sometimes even in regions of high unemployment. Jason Kenney, then minister of immigration, pointed out that this was surely driving down the wages of lower-income Canadians – and despite the demands of some employers, lower market wages should not be an objective of government policy.” – Globe & Mail, Aug 28th 2016

Our PM seems to expect reality to bend in order to accommodate his contradictions. Good luck with that.

Carney revealed that “austerity” was on the menu for his government’s first budget this fall while speaking to reporters before chairing a two-day cabinet retreat in Toronto.

“It’s an austerity and investment budget at the same time, and that’s possible if we are disciplined,” Carney said in French. “We can do both, and we will do both.”

Emergency! Emergency!

You’d think by now the doom mongers would be taking a break. Far from it. At every opportunity, they’re doubling down.

This is what it’s come down to: if you have the sniffles and test negative for COVID, you better lock yourself in the house just in case the test was inaccurate. Might as well quit your job at that rate.

“If that test is negative, it might be what’s called a false negative, or not positive yet,” Coles said. In that case, you should test again in three or four days to ensure you don’t have COVID, she added. “Because if you have COVID, we want you to stay home, protect yourself and protect others as well,” Coles said.

Not only are they demanding payment for any future infrastructure projects, but nearly a billion dollars up front just to figure out what those payments might be. They’re like a contractor who charges you to develop an estimate or a realtor who demands a commission prior to a sale.

In her opening remarks, National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak pointed to provincial bills that also seek to fast-track major projects. She praised chiefs in B.C., Quebec and Alberta for standing up for their rights and territories by pushing back against provincial governments.

The assembly recently put forth a pre-budget submission to the federal government recommending $800 million over the next two years to support a First Nations review of national interest projects.

Rules indicate that at least 50 per cent of the total required signatures must be from NDP members who do not identify as a cisgender man — meaning a male whose reported gender corresponds to their reported sex at birth.

The party also requires a minimum of 100 signatures be from “equity-seeking groups” such as racialized members, Indigenous members, members of the LGBTQ+ community and persons living with disabilities.

Y2Kyoto: Drill Old Chap, Drill

[UK Tory leader Kemi Badenough] it seems, is about to unveil a pledge to extract as much oil and gas from the North Sea as possible.

This is from the front page of the Sunday Telegraph which is carrying a headline proclaiming, “Drill the North Sea dry, says Badenoch”, mirrored by an online story headed: “Kemi Badenoch: No more net zero – extract every drop of North Sea oil”.

From the online text, we learn that this week in Aberdeen she will deliver a speech that will draw comparison to Donald Trump’s “drill, baby, drill” moment, when she will vow to abolish all environmental restrictions on fossil fuel extraction.

This, it is said, will be her greatest departure from net zero to date. It will emulate the wealth-creating approach taken by Norway and establish “a clear dividing line with Ed Miliband, who is forging ahead with net zero plans to ban new oil and gas licences.

Such a pledge, if ever translated into policy, would release the estimated 3.3 billion barrels of oil equivalent in the UK’s North Sea sector, although there may be even more, with some recent analyses suggesting that up to 7.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent could still be produced from UK waters,

To put this into context, the total annual primary energy consumption figure for the UK runs at about 550 million barrels of oil equivalent, which includes consumption directly by consumers, fuel used for electricity generation, and other transformation processes.

And, there’s more.

Think of the billions that might have been saved if they let me run the world.

Quebec’s Northvolt project is officially dead — and the government says it is cutting its losses.

Christine Fréchette, Quebec’s economy minister, announced Tuesday that the province will invest no further money in Northvolt Batteries North America.

“The company’s failure to present a satisfactory plan with regard to Quebec’s interests has led us to assert our rights in order to recover as much of our investment as possible,” Fréchette’s said in a statement. “This venture proved unsuccessful, and we are obviously disappointed.”

The announcement spells the end to Northvolt’s highly touted, but controversial, plan to build a $7-billion plant in Saint-Basile-le-Grand and McMasterville in the Montérégie region. The Quebec government had supported the proposal and changed its own rules, allowing the project to bypass an environmental review.

Quebec had invested $510 million in the project, saying it would create 3,000 jobs in the area and make Quebec a battery producing powerhouse.

The investments included a $240-million guaranteed loan and a $270-million investment in Northvolt Batteries North America’s parent company.

Quebec officially lost that $270-million investment, Fréchette said in a news release. Northvolt declared bankruptcy in Sweden in March.

Keir Starmer’s Britain

Where the foxes caper unmolested, the government packs your school lunch and Graham’s single bail condition is that he does not go on X.

The Met Police has confirmed the 57-year-old was arrested on suspicion of inciting violence at around 1pm yesterday ‘in relation to posts on X’.

Reacting to the arrest, Rowling fumed on X: ‘What the f*** has the UK become? This is totalitarianism. Utterly deplorable.’

The gender-critical campaigner leapt to Linehan’s defence just weeks after he accused her of failing to back him after he was cancelled over his similar views.

Elsewhere, Piers Morgan accused Britain of ‘turning into North Korea’, Robert Jenrick blasted it as ‘a complete waste of police time’ and even presenter Iain Dale – who has come under attack from Linehan in the past – branded it an ‘outrage’.

Linehan’s arrest is the latest in a string of heavy-handed police responses over ‘thought crimes’, with writers, councillors and parents talking in school WhatsApp groups targeted in recent months.

“I just got arrested again”

Oh, boy. Linehan was arrested for speech he engaged in *while in the United States.*

More Pavilions At Folkfest

When the Trudeau Liberals introduced “multiculturalism”, most Canadians thought it meant “more pavilions at Folkfest”. What we got was “traffic bollards at Folkfest”.

~A useful tip re the rapidly shifting Overton window on the dispossession of European peoples in their native lands: If someone uses the word “integration” with a straight face, he’s a wanker and you need pay him no further heed. If he’s a dinner guest, call an Uber and show him the door. “Integration” might have been a swell idea in, oh, 1972, 1968, but we are way beyond that now.

Muslims were disinclined to “integrate” when they were 0.0001 per cent of the population, they’re certainly not going to feel any pressure to do so when, as in Brussels, they’re just shy of half the population.
