Utopi-aren’t

Robert Tracinski on socialist Venezuela and the imaginings of John Lennon:

Before you judge Venezuela’s looters, consider what you would do if your children were starving. So much for “no hunger.” What about the “brotherhood of man”? Not only is looting soaring in Venezuela, but so are all forms of crime. It has gotten so far out of control that mobs of vigilantes are burning people alive in the streets over petty thefts. It turns out then when people are starving, there’s not a lot of brotherhood. Instead, they fight like dogs over a bone.

One of these.

Blog Notes

My apologies for the slow posting.
We’re spending the weekend on an out of town family visit, and between activities and locking myself out of the blog (password wasn’t saved on this new laptop) I’ve been unable to post until now, (finally got in on Lance’s account) I may get things rectified later today, may not. So, if things remain quiet here — that’s why! Enjoy your weekend!

Get Ready to Bend Over, Er…Bow to the Aristocratic Class

Frank Herbert warned us that “Governments, if they endure, always tend increasingly towards aristocratic forms. No government in history has been known to evade this pattern”. We’ve gotten to that point in Canada where the entire function of Government is to act exclusively in the interests of the ruling class. Outrageous recent increases in MP expense accounts is a minor example, there is much worse….

Bill’s Wife

The monster is turning on its’ masters;

In public, Hillary Clinton’s aides and allies have kept their anger checked, decrying the rowdy outbursts at Nevada’s state convention last weekend but saying they believe Sanders will ultimately do the right thing by helping to unite the Democratic Party.
Behind the scenes, however, they are seething that statements by the Vermont senator are just making matters worse by further alienating his supporters from Clinton, the front-runner for the party’s presidential nomination.
The continued combat on the left is also complicating Clinton’s efforts to fully turn her attention to presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, who is reveling in the Democratic feuding.
“This is the worst-case scenario and the one people feared the most,” said one Clinton ally and former Clinton aide.

Faster, please.

The Sound Of Settled Science

Phys Org;

Using recent advancements in Australian telescope technology, a Monash University-led research team has made an unexpected discovery that a large group of stars are dying prematurely, challenging our accepted view of stellar evolution. […]
While the cause of this remains a mystery, the HERMES chemical analysis has revealed that premature death tends to only occur in the sodium-rich/oxygen-poor stars. The surprising thing is that our best models of these stars do not predict that they will die young.
