Renegade Regulator

“They started barking about oil spills and tank corrosion and about the environment and helping us solve it.” Of course, there was no problem, it didn’t exist, but CSA wanted money so they conjured a problem that only CSA could solve. Specifically, they started a committee to amend fuel oil tank regulations (B-139 regs).
Committee members paid CSA to be on the fuel oil tank regulations committee and, of course, these committee members were the manufacturers of fuel oil tanks, pumps, piping, etc. So CSA was already rolling in money before amending anything.
“The bastards ruled that everything we’d installed in the last fifty years was unacceptable. Everything to be replaced [with] all new equipment.” That is, all of the existing infrastructure, safe and reliable for decades, was to be replaced at horrific costs, all born by the homeowner, and all to profit the manufacturers who’d paid CSA to change the regulations in the first place.

The real reason

Trudeau and Morneau are pushing ahead with their ill-thought and dangerous tax changes under the guise of fairness with the intention of dividing Canadians. They come out and yell that we small business owners are thieves, stiffing the system, dangerous.
Get the Conservatives to support small business owners, farmers, the doctor and vet and you can then claim they are the party of the 1%. If the electorate is stupid enough to believe it, you’re set.
The fact that it’s stupid tax-policy, a drastic change to small business practice and an incentive to just shut everything down means nothing to these loose-guns.
Some outlets see the idiocy for what it is.
CPC MP Erin O’Toole writes in the Toronto Sun about who will actually be impacted by these dangerous policies.
Kevyn Nightingale lambastes the Liberals for playing politics with such important gov’t policies.
Mathieu Bedard in a Special to the Sun highlights the history of these supposed “loopholes” and who these children in gov’t are targeting.
Jim Warren cynical Liberal politics of division that pit Canadians against each other.
Lorne Gunter highlights who the real 1% are in Canada.
Jon Robson asks for a tax-policy that isn’t always an increase.
Geez, looking at the distribution of those links, which media outlet appears to be sticking up for small business?

Shiny’s Dirty Hands

Canada has deported hundreds to war-torn countries: government data

Canada has deported hundreds of people to countries designated too dangerous for civilians, with more than half of those people being sent back to Iraq, according to government data obtained by Reuters.

Not that I disagree with deporting most of those who fail Canada’s fairly lax standards, but the reality of this gov’t is far from the image presented.

Government Overreach on Canada’s Left Coast

Something very peculiar recently happened to a single father in Vancouver:

A single father, Crook is trying to teach his kids aged five to 11 to be independent and able to navigate Vancouver without his supervision.
He started by taking them on public transit — including their 45-minute trips to school — to teach them how that works. Over time, he began allowing the older four to go without him on their commute to school.
But somebody complained and the Ministry of Children and Family Development swooped in, investigated and sent Crook a letter warning him of its “protection concerns.”

Mr. Crook has his own blog, which is very fascinating.

Yelling into the wind.

Why the Liberal plan to tax entrepreneurs who invest will come back to haunt Canada
He doesn’t care, he wants the cash and if a few thousand families, a few tens of thousands of businesses get ruined…what of it?
Our job is to make DiCaprio happy, not to provide for our families. How dare you question a Trudeau!
Money for the dental insurance? Trudeau wants it. Money for retirement? Trudeau wants it. Passing the farm on? Trudeau wants to tax it. The whole family working the gas station? Too bad, that’s Trudeau’s money too.

Blog Notes

SDA is hosted by Hosting Matters out of Jacksonville, FL.
I note that the mayor has now ordered an evacuation of vulnerable areas.
I am completely unfamiliar with the area, so I can’t say if SDA will be affected, but in the event SDA goes down in the next while, there’s probably a really good reason.
