Liberals under fire for ‘cooking’ Ontario’s books – ‘Fair Hydro Plan’ undermines accountability standards
Although ratepayers will get a temporary, 25% break over four years on their hydro bills, the plan will cost “up to $4 billion more than necessary” in interest, Lysyk said.
The Liberals also “improperly” moved $26 billion in hydro debt off their books, borrowing the money through Ontario Power Generation, and as a consequence hydro ratepayers will face increases for 30 years.
The set-up is nearly complete. The Liberals will have left Ontario’s books in about the same state or worse as Mr. Rae did. With finances this bad Mr. Brown will probably need to implement Mr. Harris like moves with the end result of Brown being used in OLP ads for the next 20 years.

Ontario is done. Brown will not be Harris, and in any event, the voters will return the Liberals to power if not this time, then certainly after four years of Brown. They will never be the breadbasket of Canada ever again, given that all 10 provinces are now have not provinces, that says a lot. The only hope is western separation, which will hasten the decline and hurry the necessary repairs before Venezuela is no longer a foreign country but a state of being.
What…liberals lie? Noooooooooo…..
I’m shocked.
cook? well, word is the lieberals are making hydro so go&^%&^^mn expensive, ‘cooking’ anything will be all in the past.
I called up the local lieberal mpp a couple times this weekend pointing out numerous ways they are destroying the economic viability of the province DEMANDING they STOP doing *anything* seeing as it invariably turns into shyt. using this news item as another example.
Jane pegs it. the long term memory of Canuckistan voters isn’t very long. wishful thinking and the penchant of certain types to ‘believe what they want to believe’ has an indefinite lifespan.
Flip Brown just lost the election…he apologized for being white
jumped into perpetual victim face cover i am not a racist rat trap
The real pain of all this will be felt by the next successor governing party, assuming of course that Brown is competent to win an election, that will need to untangle the mess. And it’s going to hurt bad. Ontario is finished.
With Ontario’s smell of death in the “Wynne” and the West, because of a Truedope as PM will completely miss the boat on North American’s renaissance as competitive World Energy supplier so I don’t give much hope for Canada as a whole actually.
The last best hope left for Canada is it’s actual proximity to the USA which would still be the best host for annexation.
“With finances this bad Mr. Brown will probably need to implement Mr. Harris like moves ”
Brown? Harris-like moves? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha……

Paddy Brown
His pants fell down
And all the kids could see
A little veil
That covered up
His shrivelled little peas
Honestly, if Brown was smart he would refuse to run anyone against the NDP/Liberal. The same people who voted for Bob Rae still live in Ontario. They voted for McGuinty, Wynne, and Trudeau. There is no fixing stupid; but you can get out of the way and let it kill itself.
Do not hinder the circling of the drain. The only thing that can happen is you get swept away.
Said it before
Bears repeating
The only way out of this is if Ontario goes into receivership.
The only way to relegate the liberal party a non entity that can never regain power is if the province goes into receivership while they are the government. Once the bankruptcy trustee takes over the government loses the power of the purse.
Under that circumstance Wynne will be the feature of election ads for eternity.
Obviously not from Ontario.
The rest of us out here would rather fight then die whining. There are a lot of real good people being caught here, and deserve better than a quick write off from someone not affected by the turmoil. Easy to be condescending when not getting bit by the situation.
Maybe Brown is trying to play both sides, though I think he is in attack mode to keep everything in the public eye. Is he the right guy for the Conservative, not in my book as he is not right enough. is he the right guy to get a few cross-over seats, yes.
What will count is the people who run in the ridings, will they get the local interest to get the vote out?
I couldn’t support the idiot running Federally here, hopefully there will be more intelligent and personable candidates.
There is a good opportunity to create change in Ontario, probably none better.
I hope that they can do the job once in.
You have my sympathy in a rough situation. But I don’t see that the majority of Ontarians are willing to bite the bullet and face their problems.
I left Ontario when (among other reasons) I realized that voters there weren’t ready to vote out the scandal-plagued Chretien/Martin Liberals back in the 2000s. I didn’t trust voters who put ideological purity before honesty. Looks like I was right, unfortunately.
Interest rates are only going up from here. That debt will become an ever bigger millstone around Ontario’s neck. And the request for a bailout from the Feds in 5-10-15 years could split up the country, especially since Quebec will be asking for a bailout at around the same time.
It doesn’t matter how corrupt or incompetent the Libranos are proven to be they will continue winning elections in Ontario and continue bankrupting the Province. The Libranos may as well use these latest revelations as a campaign slogan… The electorate (mainly bureaucrats) are greedy lazy and stupid, just like the party they vote for. Ontario is lost… fa get about it… enjoy the decline.
Change did come to Ontario. Bob Rae was change. Then Mike Harris was change.
Then everyone in Ontario forgot, and elected McGuinty, Wynne, Trudeau. Ontario has 30 million people drilling holes, and 3 people throwing buckets of water out.
Everyone in Canada saw what Douglas did to Saskatchewan. Then they elected their own NDP governments. The only lesson we can draw from history, is no one learns from it.
“The rest of us out here would rather fight then die whining.”
Where the heck is “out here”, Grumps?
It sure as hell isn’t this part of rural Ontario – there isn’t more than a few dozen “fighters” per county. And after years of trying to educate and motivate the masses, they’ve given up. They’ve looked around at the shaking, obsequious, greedy thousands-upon-thousands and said, “eff it – this lot just ain’t worth fighting for. I’ll take care of my family, and folks who are worth standing shoulder to shoulder with”.
As bad as Liberals are, Brown will not win. He has alienated his base. Many will not bother to vote next time. No one even knows what Brown represents (though this week he represents women hiding behind veils in public spaces.) Ontario was very, very stupid not to vote for Hudak, who was quite competent. He appreciated the importance of a strong economy. Too late. I also believe Ontario is done.
“Ontario was very, very stupid not to vote for Hudak, …”
The PC Party was very, very stupid to replace him with an even bigger loser.
The problem in Ontario…well federally too…is that at election time you look at the candidates and end up asking the question…”Which one of these folks isn’t campaigning on the liberal platform” or “I can’t seem to find a candidate that doesn’t qualify their affiliation to conservative philosophy by hyphenating themselves as “fiscally or progressive””
This has lead me to believe there is enough votes out their to have a real conservative government if actual conservatives got on the ballot.
“The problem in Ontario…well federally too…is that at election time you look at the candidates and end up asking the question…”Which one of these folks isn’t campaigning on the liberal platform” ”
Nope, that’s not the problem, Joseph. The problem is that Ontario has reached its critical mass: there are far more dependant (largely urban) voters than independent, thinking, private sector types.
Creeping socialism in an urban center is inevitable. The municipal government does everything for you: water, sewer, transport, etc., etc. It just takes a few generations for official dependency to set in, and then probably only one more for complete helplessness.
So Ontario politics is pretty well GTA politics. The number of people who want their arses wiped outnumbers those who prefer to take care of their own.

And a few winters ago, Wynne actually arranged delivered food baskets during a minor ice storm in Toronto. Rural residents look after their own snow removal as far as yards, driveways go, that is if they want to go anywhere. Ont is two solitudes and getting more so.
Doesn’t matter who the Conservatives pick as leaders when the MSM (aka Liberals with Bylines) tell as big a lie as required to destroy them. Trump knew where the most damage came from and countered it.
Anyone know how to play this game here in Canada?
I think that you are right. I know that at least three siblings of my wife and I and a cousin I regularly communicate with are so disillusioned and sick of Brown that they are considering not voting at all. Brown supports every single progressive social issue.
Between McGuinty’s and Wynne’s destructive regimes and a useless alternative it might be best just to let the destruction take its course. Grumps and our family members unfortunately will have to suffer along with the gullible rube voter.
Indiana Jane, “The only hope is western separation,…”. Would that could come true. Grumps and
The conservative in Ontario need put Vic Fedeli at the head of that party and then they will win and have a great economy. He is a brilliant man. You have been told.
It is maddening living here and my capacity for hope dwindles with each election cycle. Brown? LMFAO. I am sitting this one out. Libs better off owning the mess they created. “Ontario has 30 million people drilling holes, and 3 people throwing buckets of water out.” Pretty much…
‘the setup’ – interesting choice of words.. I’ve often marvelled at the totally rigged game that is Canadian politics: Liberals come to power and absolutely wreck the finances of the country.. massive deficit spending, zero financial accountability, unrestrained bureaucracy expansion, barely disguised corruption and graft. They get away with it for 8 – 10 years until the Canadian public can’t stomach it anymore and they elect a Conservative government that proceeds to slash and burn the budget back to health… big, giant meanies. Inevitably after 4 – 8 years of government (two terms if lucky) the Liberals are again returned to power. It’s a one step forward, two steps back situation where, astonishingly, Canada is still recovering from Pierre Trudeau’s pillaging of the country when his son comes to power and wrecks everything all over again.
Stupid is as Stoopid does…the biggest problem being today is what is being taught in our schools across the country.
Abject Leftist STUPIDITY.
Its all part of the plan isn’t it..??
The continual dumbing down of our population over a 40 yr time period.
Twas a time you could actually fail in School…remember that.?
Twas a time I could recall helping my sister with her math..with my own kids.? not as hope in hell.
Twas a time when there were only 2 genders (as it remains now IMO)…
Twas a time when all we had were bona-fide immigrants who would die to come to this country and be happy to WAIT 10 Years before being allowed to become citizens….now most consider it a right (entitled), of pretty much anyone of the 7 Billion on the planet who can swim here or walk across the 49th.
Twas a time when Alberta was 85%+ Conservative…but with that POS Nenshi getting re-elected..?? not so sure anymore. Sad really.
Am hopeful for the UCP with Kenney at the helm…but we shall see come next Monday.
Things are Class A F’kd up Beyond all reason. As to a Revolt or Revolution…? not enough cojonnes in the country for that to ever happen. So once the wife is done working (or sooner), I think there likely will be a good chance I leave this country. I just can’t handle living among 27,000,000 Indoctrinated Morons. The other 7 million live in the countryside.
all you say is true. there is no solution to the problem, the country will have to implode, and even then the socialists will be bleating for the few scraps that are still left in the trough.
unfortunately BobC the conservatives have never taken even one step backward, it has been modest increases and the government has never been reduced by any conservative in my lifetime, and I am running out of time.
I think we have to accept the fact that we are living with the most corrupt liberal governments both in Ontario and federally that this country has ever seen. The verdict in Sudbury simply enforces the fact that liberal are above the law.
