Liberal Censors Gonna Censor

Michael Geist- Criticism of government’s online harms plans is stunning and helps explain why @pablorodriguez blocked access to submissions for months.

The Rest of the Online Harms Consultation Story: Canadian Heritage Forced to Release Hundreds of Public Submissions Under Access to Information Law

For months, the results of the government’s online harms consultation was shrouded in secrecy as the Canadian Heritage refused to disclose the hundreds of submissions it received. I launched a page that featured publicly available submissions (links reposted below), including 25 submissions from organizations and companies as well as six individual expert submissions.

The criticism of the government’s plans were even more widespread than previously revealed. Indeed, reviewing the submissions uncovers very few supportive comments of the government’s online harms from either organizations or the hundreds of individual submissions.

The most notable submission came from Twitter (its must read submission is here), which warned that the proactive monitoring of content envisioned by the government.

“sacrifices freedom of expression to the creation of a government run system of surveillance of anyone who uses Twitter. Even the most basic procedural fairness requirements you might expect from a government-run system such as notice or warning are absent from this proposal. The requirement to ‘share’ information at the request of Crown is also deeply troubling.”

“The proposal by the government of Canada to allow the Digital Safety Commissioner to block websites is drastic. People around the world have been blocked from accessing Twitter and other services in a similar manner as the one proposed by Canada by multiple authoritarian governments (China, North Korea, and Iran for example) under the false guise of ‘online safety’ impeding peoples’ rights to access information online.”

When Resentment Is Currency

Dr Inoue has been mentioned here before, as when telling us that teachers should “dispense almost completely with judgements of quality when producing course grades, on grounds that a student’s ability to convey their thoughts in writing – and to formulate thoughts by writing – is merely a manifestation of “white language supremacy,” an allegedly lethal phenomenon. And when boasting that a simple 495-word press release for his own “racial justice” Writing Centre took “over a year” to write. As if this reflected some profundity of thought, and not a more prosaic explanation.

You see, if you have brown skin, you don’t need to be articulate. It’s the “anti-racist” way.

Freedoms Decreasing

More gas on the fire.

-Freeland just announced the RCMP are going to have free powers to freeze bank accounts without process.

@thevivafrei· Don’t worry, @JustinTrudeau isn’t “calling in the military”. He is just authorizing banks to unilaterally freeze your accounts on the basis of suspicion alone, no court order required, with legal immunity. I hope everyone realizes how much more dangerous this is than the military

Lots more. Add what you find in the comments.

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association emerges from a deep slumber.

Men of Harlech

If the Ottawa cops decide to swarm the trucker protest, wouldn’t it be fitting that the crowd responds by singing Men of Harlech? The spirit of the song would be a good fit for the occasion. There are several versions, but below are the lyrics from the movie Zulu.

Men of Harlech, stop your dreaming
Can’t you see their spearpoints gleaming
See their warrior pennants streaming
To this battle field

Men of Harlech stand ye steady
It can not be ever said ye
For the battle were not ready
Welshmen never yield

From the hills rebounding
Let this war cry sounding
Summon all at Cambria’s call
The mighty foe surrounding

Men of Harlech on to glory
This will every be your story
Keep these burning words before ye
Welshmen will not yield

Meanwhile Waterloo’s Woke Utopia is at hand.

A diverse workforce is essential to creating “an anti-racist working environment,” it says. “The current system is not accessible to certain populations, and must be amended to improve accessibility to the process from start to finish,” it says.

It calls for the Region to better recognize credentials from other countries, and create “a hiring policy that actively seeks out the lived experiences and community-based work of BIPOC communities as accepted qualifications.”

Fearmongering will Continue

Because it works. This was put together 6 years ago, talks a lot about ancient history, and yet it also mirrors the last couple of years. Narration is on the amateurish side but the content is excellent.

In this video we examine how fear can be used as a tool to manipulate others, and how those in positions of power, past and present, have effectively used fear to control certain aspects of society.

Grace Life Church

Just another Sunday in the Great White North.

As James Lindsay likes to say the asymmetry is the story.

And as Michael Malice likes to say these cops are the good apples.

New Country?

OTTAWA — The Supreme Court of Canada has found the Liberal government’s federal carbon tax law to be constitutional, dealing a blow to the governments of Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan who had been fighting the law in court.

In a 6-3 split decision released Thursday morning, a majority of justices found the law is constitutional because reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is a matter of national concern, and the law is focused on that narrow purpose while still giving provinces the ability to come up with their own solutions.

The Right To Discriminate

What is seen and what is not seen.

The House of Representatives passed legislation that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity, though it faces an uncertain future in the Senate. The legislation passed on a 224-204 vote which was mostly along with a party-line vote. Three Republicans voted with all Democrats. […]

There are concerns that someone would be forced to hire a cross-dresser to be a hostess in a top restaurant. But noticeably absent is Class discrimination. Class is omitted for that would end Marxism. Class discrimination takes place based on a person’s social class. Interestingly, the Democrats are engaging in Class discrimination right now.

It was never about the cake.
