1983, my late wife & I drove a day out of our way to visit Rorke’s Drift…waved to a few African (Bantu/Zulu? I don’t know) schoolchildren en route……almost nobody else around.

Visited Rorke’s Drift in 1987. Unfortunately arrived late in the day so there was insufficient light to take any decent pictures. Also visited Blood River at the same time. I had planned on a trip to Isandlwana as well but the road to the battlefield was too decrepit.
I was on an R&R from Saudi, late wife flew into Jozi from Toronto the day before I arrived; rented a camper and spent about a week in Kruger……..time was short so didn’t get to Isandlwana – so much to see, so little time.
Zulu was, I think, Michael Caine’s first leading role, though he’d been on other movies before that.
The movie was produced by co-star Stanley Baker, who, like much of the cast, was Welsh. The director and Baker’s co-producer was Cy Enfield, an American who moved to the U. K. because of the House Un-American Activities Committee investigation.
The score was composed by John Barry and, in my opinion, it’s one of his best.
