Here We Go
… let’s make a deal:
In effect, Harper’s overtures give Layton a way out if he wants one. It may just be table scraps, but it’s enough to claim “results for people” and put off an election if Layton wants to put off an election.
It’s very similar to what Harper tossed Duceppe on the weekend, when it was leaked there was a “draft deal” between Flaherty and Bachand on the HST. It’s not in the budget, so there’s no reason for Duceppe to support the budget…but he could probably justify propping up the government to help finalize the deal.
… or are all three Anglo parties afraid of that flushing sound?
Understanding Liberal Weeniepants-speak
In which Steyn describes the unacceptable:
I suppose one should be relieved that he absolutely accepts that it’s absolutely unacceptable. The trouble is, as your average honor killer or clitoridectomist around the planet well understands, “absolutely unacceptable” is Liberal Weeniepants-speak for “we entirely accept it”.
Think locally, act…locally
Clean the air in Shropshire, poison Inner Mongolia:
As Britain flaunts its environmental credentials by speckling its coastlines and unspoiled moors and mountains with thousands of wind turbines, it is contributing to a vast man-made lake of poison in northern China. This is the deadly and sinister side of the massively profitable rare-earths industry that the ‘green’ companies profiting from the demand for wind turbines would prefer you knew nothing about….

Teleprompter-reading talking heads in area:
British sources confirmed that seven Storm Shadow missiles were ready to be fired (at Qadaffi’s compound) from a British aircraft, but the strikes had to be curtailed due to crews from CNN, Reuters and other organizations nearby. Officials from Libya’s Ministry of Information brought those journalists to the area to show them damage from the initial attack and to effectively use them as human shields.
The curtailment of this mission led to a great deal of consternation by coalition commanders, sources told Fox News, but they opted to call off the mission to avoid civilian casualties.
Perhaps it’s time to hand the missiles over to those who might ask “What’s a ‘CNN’?”
Bombing the Colonel
In other words, it just may be a matter of one barbarian seizing power from another. Already, for example, Egyptian pressure on Copts seems to increasing, not decreasing. Imagine how ironic it will be, if our involvement in Libya assists in the turning of Libya into an Iran-like guano-hole where oppression simply shifts focus. Western intelligence in the Middle East has proven woefully inadequate again and again, from WMDs in Iraq (where there were none) to WMDs in Libya (where there were lots), so knowing what is going on and what the most possible outcomes might be is a matter of wild guessing. I suspect that the chatter among old-timers at Tim Hortons is as knowledgeable as what passes for chatter among bureaucrats in “the know”.
Or, are we witnessing a true Arab spring, where the thirst for liberty will overcome the more base forces of Islamic barbarism?
Oops on the barbarism thingy.

In tonight’s pop music oddity from 1978, former Miss Finland Armi Anja Orvokki Aavikko and her partner Ilka Lipsanen (who performed under the stage name of “Danny”) lip-sync their way through a performance of I Want To Love You Tender. The song itself is as trite and inconsequential as anything in the history of Euro-pop, but the choreography of the accompanying dance group is… extraordinary.

Wave Disk Generator
It is 5 times more efficient than conventional automobile internal combustion engines, and 3.5 times more efficient than hybrid automobile engines. It reduces auto emissions up to 90 percent, because the engine uses 60 percent of its fuel for propulsion, compared to a typical car engine that uses only 15 percent of fuel for propulsion. It does not have pistons, crankshafts, valves, or a transmission system, cooling system, emissions regulation or fluids reducing costs of the engine system 30% and maintenance costs. And, it can operate on natural gas, gasoline, hydrogen and other fuels.

Click. Michael Hintze’s phone line went dead — the caller never identified himself. A prominent Wisconsin Tea Party leader, Hintze is the latest recipient of anonymous death threats.
That’s precisely the way it’s supposed to work. Collective-force mobs are, by design, inherently anonymous, while their individual opponents are not:
I’ve been stalked, chased, and verbally assaulted by several individuals. One woman drew a crowd around me and proceeded to rattle off my full name, my age, my hometown, and the exact size of my family. She noted that I am the second-oldest of thirteen children. She also recited the very dates I had been on Fox News and the time period of my visit to New York.
Creepy though it was, this woman’s knowledge of my personal life was impressive. She knew information that many of my friends were not aware of.
These rooted leftist tactics are beginning to trouble even some of the denizens of the Left. In a post that Cjunk referenced in this SDA post, Lee Stranahan of the Huffington Post wrote:
Why isn’t the mainstream media talking about the death threats against Republican politicians in Wisconsin?
Try to set aside whatever biases or preconceptions you might have for a moment and ask yourself why death threats against politicians aren’t considered national news, especially in the wake of the all too fresh shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and other bystanders. And there hasn’t just been one death threat, but a number of them.
[…]
Just before writing this article, I did a Google search and it’s stunning to find out that the right wing media really isn’t exaggerating — proven death threats against politicians are being ignored by the supposedly honest media.
It’s almost as if there’s a blatant double standard.

The New Civility
… from Huffpo?
That tone of extreme hostility I experienced brings me back to the death threats in Wisconsin. Frankly, the bile and invective in that threat reminded me of the tone I saw directed at me from many so-called liberals because I committed the heresy of taking a different position from them on the issue of collective bargaining for public sector employees… based on something FDR said.
Is this really what liberalism has come to in 2011?
Saved by Quebec?
… from the “great moments in irony” file:
Does “interculturalism” have legs? In Quebec probably. It’s respectable cover for dumping Trudeau-era multiculturalism, something which even the son of Pierre seems to be cool with doing. In the ROC it would only be a half-way house. A step to assuage the squeamish before the whole idea of multiculturalism is put into the ashcan of history. The choice that we face is a stark one. Either we are to accept Diefenbaker’s ideal of One Canada, or we elect for ourselves the fate of a vast sub-arctic Balkans. Without a common cultural center, this is a house that cannot stand.
