11:25 ET Update - Volpe story just got bigger. Volpe was confronted by the GP canvasser on the scene. Also, Elections Canada has finally returned their call.
"I said to JV: "Interesting version of democracy Joe." He denied what I had just seen. I told him I had pix.I was so disappointed."
More updates likely here as the story progesses.
Bumped to 10:20am ET - SDA gets results!
"I do not engage in or condone this type of campaign behavior. When this issue about the canvasser was brought to my attention by the Green Party candidate, in deference to his concern and to the hard work of my own campaign, the canvasser was released by the campaign." - Joe Volpe
No acknowledgement from Volpe that he was standing only feet away when the "campaign behavior" took place. But speaking of non-acknowledgements, Orla indicates the theft was immediately reported to the Returning Officer. That was at least two days ago. As of last evening, there was still no reply.
Note - what the Volpe campaign has now admitted to is an offense under the Elections Act. Volpe has been prominently featured in news coverage alleging "dirty tricks" against his campaign. We need to hold media feet to the fire on this one.
Original post continues below:
As I was exiting Lotherton Estates, Eglinton Lawrence Riding, Toronto, after nearly 4 hours canvassing, I saw Joe Volpe's handler put our flyer in this bin at @ 4:45 p.m. I was like, WTF?
Caption reads: April 22, 2011 5:04:37 PM: There is Joe Volpe. His handler is picking up the flyers before Joe gets there. Very handy that handler. He changes things up in a second 'cause Joe got chatting with 177.

Ah those classy liberals. Ironic really, with all those stories about vandalism in Toronto against Liberal candidates (which begs the question- not that I condone such behaviour- but if, Bob Rae some one keys your car- does that indicate love?)
And another note. Why doesn't someone in the media ask Mr. Volpe his opinion on abortion? Got to expose the religious fundamentalists you know. Well perhaps just the ones on the wrong side.
He was recycling it.

Picture of mail box with one flyer before - clearly seen sticking out of box.

Replaced flyer clearly seen in box.
The pictures are time stamped.
Location of mail-box is the same.
It would not matter who took the pictures, they are there and clearly seen,
"Seriously though why no pic of him actually throwing the flyer in the bin?"
Picture of mail box is all the proof needed.
"Was the flyer on the ground by chance and the guy was just being litter conscience?"
No, as anybody with eyes can see, it was in mailbox and not on ground. You better get eyes checked - they do not see too well. Also brain checked - it does not function in basic logic. There is no picture of person picking up flyer. Just different flyer before and after.
"Did you bother going over and saying excuse me but umm why did you throw my flyer away? "
Why, the pictures is all the proof that is neededd - perhaps he would feel threatened if he appproached this "so called LIEberal human."

Besides it is not Buckdog that is object of breaking the law, it is Joe Volpe's assistant - with Joe Volpe's full knowledge - whose actions are questioned. If the tables were turned and it was Buckdog, you would have a different attitude, I'm sure. Why not let pictures speak for themselves, they are real or fake - that is what Elections Canada [and RCMP] should look at.

I kind of know what you are saying, (I do not take your statement as a put-down of families living there); yet there is a lot of differance between a house and a home.
I have seen families live in worse housing conditions, yet they are the family "model" of love and acceptance of each other and the "family" is happy as a whole. On the other hand, I have seen the most beautiful houses, and the family was in "need of help." Just like you cannot judge a book by its cover, one cannot judge a house by the appearance outside.
[Sorry, one of my pet-peves on judging by housing conditions that some have to live under.]

I listen to CBC’s classical music program, Tempo, and so have to endure the news once an hour. They’re going overboard on the vandalism of the property of people with Liberal signs: I agree that it’s quite disgusting. (Who’d be surprised if the vandalism were being perpetrated by Liberals? They’re just sneaky and unprincipled enough to do something like that.) I have a friend, with a Conservative sign in a heavily Liberal area, whose property was vandalized. Where’s the CBC in cases like that?
If you can prove the that flyer in question was taken from the mail box of a lesbian, then you would have a human rights case of some sort. Should net about 20K to the Lesbian and a ban from campaigning in the province for life.

Totally agree with you about house vs. home and living conditions not necessarily determining the nature of the individual. Just to be clear, my earlier comment was not about the people living there. I'm just commenting on the ugliness of the buildings themselves.
Getting some sunlight and trees into the view makes things look a little better. Here's the infamous 193 Lotherton Parkway at Google Street View here --
http://tinyurl.com/3wdf92x
The featureless brick walls, almost monolithic in nature, make the buildings look painfully utilitarian. This really could be a very depressing place to live.
While Mr.G posts that Lotherton Estates is (or might be) subsidized housing, there is at least one For Sale sign in Google Street view that suggests that some of the townhome units might be privately held.
I've emailed Mr Volpe to ask for comments on this story, especially after his press release criticizing "Republican-style" robocalls in the riding. Will post the response if there is one.
National News Watch, and sorry MSM. Why I am surprised that NNW carried this story, is they have been using this site to bash the PM and conservatives since the election started. (before too)

Posted by: eastern paul at April 25, 2011 1:15 PMThis Globe & Mail blog post by Jill Mahoney is a joke! Joe Volpe WAS WITH the one removing the Green Party fliers.
Is the MSM stupid or are they in bed with the Lieberals?!?
Posted by: Robert W. (Vancouver) at April 25, 2011 1:24 PMThe Leftard commenters on Kady O'Malley's blog are a piece of work. They immediately try to start blaming the Conservatives for this fiasco! HUH?!?
Once again I'm reminded that the benefit of being on the Left is never having to apologize for your actions, no matter how disgusting or despicable they may be. :-(
Posted by: Robert W. (Vancouver) at April 25, 2011 1:29 PMTraitors to democracy, traitors to the country.
Jail, jail, jail!
“Pot, meet kettle”: how sweet it is to see two lefty parties at each others’ throats.
And these fantasy-land, “I’m the best/No, I’m the best”, non-grown ups think they can form a coalition that will work? When pigs fly . . .
Canadians are getting wise to the immaturity and deviousness of our left-wing parties, including their camp followers, the MSM, especially the CBC, and Elections Canada. Hopefully, this latest “Punch and Judy” show will be one more nail in the left’s coffin.
Majority, here we come!
Joe Volpe WAS WITH the one removing the Green Party fliers.
Maybe they didn't recognize each other.
Joe, meet thief...
Thief, meet Joe...
Now get back to work!
Lookout, your use of the term "Non-grown ups" is most apropos and beyond brilliant!
This reminds me of a conversation I had yesterday with a longtime family friend of mine. He's not a bad fellow but has long been an idealist. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth (or at least silver plated), he has kind of drifted through life. He has 3 degrees, including an MBA but has done nothing with them. He has frequently said that he's looking for the perfect job "with no politics".
Yesterday he told me how dismayed he was that the Tories might soon be winning a majority. He said that he's going to vote Green, though admitted he has reservations about Lizzie May. He then added that "everything would change in Canada if the Youth actually voted". I didn't say it but thought, "So you're 40 years old and share the wisdom of 18 year olds who know little to nothing about the world and have never had to pay taxes?!"
Posted by: Robert W. (Vancouver) at April 25, 2011 2:35 PMRobert, I shudder to think what would happen if "the Youth actually voted"! (But my youthful, common sense kids are voting Conservative: at least they assure me they are! I believe them.)
Hopefully, when people like me are gone, "the Youth" will no longer be youthful and will have realized that the Tooth Fairy and Unicorns don't actually exist. And, if they haven't, they'll pay the very dire consequences of wishful thinking.

Posted by: set you free at April 25, 2011 3:03 PMJoe "death is no excuse not to vote" Volpe is just going to have to be in charge of Canada Post in the new NDP-BQ cabinet. I am looking forward to my bills going straight from the sorting plant to the recycling plant.
Obviously, the Libranos know no other way of doing things - compulsive unethical and dishonest behavior, even now that they know we are watching!!! The LPC needs to be ground into dust.

Both. Stupidity and the MSM go hand in hand.

Posted by: mot at April 25, 2011 3:27 PMBefore we all forget, keep in mind that the track record of the Canadian Conservative Party is quite left in the global perspective of what Left vs. Right actually means.
Isn't it interesting how otherwise seemingly intelligent people will tell you that Stephen Harper is evil whilst Barack Obama, who to date has been more right of centre than Harper in many ways, is the second coming of Christ?!
Marketers must love the soft minds of Leftards as they're so incredibly to sway (read "fool") with the simplest of slogans.

Hey, c'mon now, this is just a misunderstanding between friends.
Remember, the common enemy of the left are the Tories, so they can't get all snitty with each other over misplacing a flyer or two.
As many of us have said, if this was a Tory doing this, it would be frontpage headlines, 24/7, with talkshows and Evan Solomon, and Owliver, Giggles Taber, and the rest of the bagmen of the LPC screaming to high heaven about it.
Instead.....hmmm, driveby, nothing to see here, moving on......evil Stephen, contempt, hidden agenda, yadda yadda, stay on message for the LPC media.

Posted by: Aviator at April 25, 2011 5:15 PMInteresting, but did he get their children to make their maximum political contribution to his campaign? Apparently he has that effect.
Posted by: DrD at April 25, 2011 5:20 PMWTF? Volpe is still a MP?
I thought he was swimming with the fishes.
We all know that the ONLY reason this will show up on CBC or CTV is because of SunTV News (aka Fox News North).
When Joe Volpe made the big splash last week, and gained headlines by announcing that on April 15th, he sent a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada asking for a formal investigation of possible violations of the Canada Elections Act because of the use “American Republican-style campaign tactics”. He said that it was a "tactic taken straight from the Republican dirty-tricks playbook.”
I assumed he was talking about someone in the opposition, but today it is revealed that it is Joe Volpe's own re-election campaign team that is using the "dirty-tricks" in an attempt to turn Liberal party fortunes around, under his close supervision.
Wasn't Joe Volpe fined 1000 dollars by his own Liberal Party, for shenanigans, that would make the Republican dirty tricks committee proud?
Dr. Phil Iggy’s Shooting Gallery.
…-
“Iggy makes pitch, but who was watching?”
Who does Michael Ignatieff think he is? Dr. Phil?
The Liberal Party of Canada says its leader’s half-hour infomercial that ran twice on Easter Sunday drew an estimated 500,000 viewers.
That’s the kind of Canadian audience psychologist and talk show host Phil McGraw got during his broadcast last Thursday.
Getting a half-million viewers would also make Ignatieff’s Sunday appearance more popular than some daytime soap operas or a show like Entertainment Tonight.
So, can the Grits back up their audience estimate.
In a word, no.”

“Michael Ignatieff wants to see more taxpayer-funded heroin injection sites across Canada.”

By the way, "released by the campaign" usually means "take the day off" or "show up tomorrow with a new name."
Posted by: Peter O'Donnell at April 25, 2011 5:36 PMLiz said, "Iggy says he would work with Layton. Does that mean he has coalition on his mind?"
I assumed this to mean, "Prime Minister Layton" if the NDP ended up with more seats than the Liberals.
I wonder if these overgrown children have ANY IDEA what dynamite they're dealing with, thinking that they can so easily discard 144 years of Canadian history. A Coalition of the LOSERS has NEVER happened before in our country's history. What makes things different now?!? Answer: NOTHING!!!

Yes, maz, but their friends in the MSM can back it up, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.......repeat a lie enough times, and it becomes the truth. The Fiberals are masters at it, and so are their friends in the media. They practice it daily.
