It would be entirely understandable at this point if one or two impartial observers got the uncomfortable, nagging feeling that Winnipeg NDP MP Pat Martin has a bit of an anger management problem that rears its head most barefacedly when he’s addressing women of the female persuasion. His embarrassing, almost raging behaviour against female Conservative MP Candace Hoeppner , for example — “You just stay out of it!” — during a CBC appearance on March 7th certainly had a unease-inducing edge to it, to the point where even host Evan Soloman was compelled to make pointed reference to his rather extravagant anger.
Right around the same time, a few months after Conservative MP Kelly Block introduced a bill that would require First Nations chiefs and councilors to “make public every year the salaries and reimbursements…they receive from the federal government”, Martin chose to address her point by personally insulting her, calling her “a hapless dupe for a bunch of rednecks.” Several weeks later at a Parliamentary Committee hearing Martin was manifestly condescending, almost enraged, and – arguably – borderline abusive towards International Affairs minister Bev Oda, whom he constantly interrupted and spoke down to in a tone that was, for many, a bit unease-inducing.
This pattern of being a bit…rage-y, and on-edge, apparently continues: When Martin appeared at an all-candidates meeting in his riding on April 12, one of his female constituents stepped forward to the microphone to ask him why he didn’t return calls from his constituents, and to inquire how much time he spends in his riding (apparently, he spends a certain amount of his time in BC, where his recently-divorced wife took ownership of their hobby farm). Martin proceeded to take the lowest road imaginable by verbally attacking this woman he didn’t know, and in the most gratuitous way imaginable:
“How many restraining orders do you have against you?”
When the nonplussed women informed him that she had no restraining orders whatsoever against her, Martin allegedly said:
“That’s not what I heard”
Martin subsequently issued a formal apology in which he avers that it’s all a case of mistaken identity. As a non-Conservative MP, his apology must, of course, be taken at face value.

Look on the bright side, he’s not a Kennedy so he’s much less likely to give a female staffer a ride 1/2 ways across a bridge.
““*Stealing page from Liberals, NDP targets women in homestretch”.
Of the Liberal/NDP’s “old bag of tricks”.
Taliban Jack LaytoNDP is going fishing. The bait? The fish?
NDP Pat Martin is the rod/reeling in the suckers.
“*Stealing page from Liberals, NDP targets women in homestretch”.
Look who is the MSM’s women-fishing “expert”! David Herle, ” a key Paul Martin strategist.”
That’s Liberal Ad$Cam MartinJr.

“*Stealing page from Liberals, NDP targets women in homestretch”
“If the NDP is really going to displace the Liberals as the main opposition party, they’re going to have to dip into the Grits’ old bag of tricks. Jack Layton has started to do a little of that with a last-week appeal to female voters.”
““Women are significantly less likely to be conservative or Conservative. So the pool of potential Liberal voters is always predominantly female,” said David Herle, a polling and market-research expert at the Gandalf Group who was a key Paul Martin strategist. Now Mr. Layton is fishing in the same pool.”

Oh, EBD, he’s a neo-liberal socialist. It’s not anger; it’s leftist “righteous” indignation, doncha know?! /sarc
Every time I think this a$$ clown can’t get any worse, he proves me wrong. He has always been a narcissist who loves to be in the spotlight, but it appears this is morphing into much more serious issues.
Just imagining how this would be treated in the media has this been a CPC MP?
hmmmmmm
Apprently this man has wimmins’ issues? His treatment of Bev Oda went unreported by Liberal media. His absolutely disrespectful abusive treatment of Oda should of made headline news but it was ignored. Frankly he should be booted out of office ASAP.
C_miner, let’s not drive off that bridge till we get to it.
Pat Martin is a disgrace but I am not sure if he is any worse than that other NDP freak Thomas Mulcair.
bverwey
The msm will never pick this up, look how long it took them to even acknowledge the Boooo and flyer garbage pictures. This is the last days and they are favouring the NDP now more than Biffy and LIEberals.
Only if you are a Con will they pounce on it. That is why msm thought that Bev Oda was guilty without given a chance to speak – it is ok with msm.
Can’t wait until CBC gets budget cut in 1/2 – like Global Warming/Climate Change and HRC – the Cons are afraid to admidt wrong to support these expenses and continue funding.
Perhaps a majority might change their minds – doubt it though.
Tantrums? Nothing a good lickin’ wouldn’t cure.
tantrum interruptus gluteus maximus ruber est…
…insane!
There is a point there. I was talking to a female friend when she said she had voted in an advanced poll. She voted for Layton but wants a Conservative majority. Go figure.
I guess it would be too good to be true if, after the election, Martin were reduced to flipping burgers at a Winnipeg McDonald’s.
I look forward to the day that martin is exposed as a neutered big mouth when someone of the fairer sex challenges him to a round of fisticuffs.
If there should be an NDP-led coalition running this country after May 3rd, you can bet that Pat Martin will have a prominent cabinet post.
The reason for the NDP surge in the polls, I think, is twofold: firstly, the Liberals are bleeding votes to them as a result of running a catastrophically inept campaign, despite the best efforts of the MSM to run interference for them. Secondly, Jack Layton, until now not being that close to power, feels free to offer the moon to voters, which apparently has great appeal in Quebec. The promises of the Tories and the Liberals, on the other hand, are somewhat constrained by fiscal reality. Layton can be as “hopey-changey” as he likes because so far no one is concerned about holding him to account for it.
It remains to be seen whether or not this surge will hold until election day.
Pat Martin is one scary guy getting a free pass from the MSM.
I live in Manitoba and not a word of this has hit the local news. It appears the politicians under the NDP banner can say and do anything they want to women with out a worry in the world of being held to account. The Winnipeg Free Press is the NDP BFF. How else do you explain year after year of NDP rule in Manitoba?
We must be gentle with him,EBD. He obviously grew up in an abusive environment.
He’s my MP. I have never seen so many Conservative [Bev Pitura] lawn signs in an election, usually one has to look for them. He’ll likely be re-elected.
Waiting patiently for Milewski,or Fife to track down the ‘ex’ to get the lowdown on what an ass Pat really is..waiting..ah,forget it.
This is who Pat Martin is. Anyone that has watched CPAC/HOC has seen this kind of behavior before. I believe that he has had to apologize a few times for comments he has made to female MP’s. Martin is a @sshat, entitled to his entitlements.
Oh yes Pat is one of the newley, chosen ones by our MSM. Since Iggula has been a total intelliduncia disaster, that Harvard tall forehead thing just didn’t go down our throats to easy, so Jack Lenin Layton has become the latest Lindssay Lowhand for us dullards out here in the land of the great unwashed. Yes, no investigation into the subsidized housing thing for Jack and Chow, no publishing of the NDPEE constitution, which looks like Marx’s diary, no publishing anything of the Supermen of anger NON, management, Martin and Mulcair, never mind the lust to shut down the VERY BUSINESS that pays the bills for this NUT Jack, The Alberta Oil Sands. No our CTV CBC Globe Star have all jumped onto the NDPEE Titanic heading over the Niagra Falls of Business Failures. Women that vote for this communist must, have none or hate the children they have.
bvervey writes: “Pat Martin is a disgrace but I am not sure if he is any worse than that other NDP freak Thomas Mulcair.”
Well put, and true. Mulcair is much better at putting on smiling airs of concern and bonhomie, but he is one of the nastiest pieces of work on the Hill, as anyone who works there will confirm.
EBD
“women of the female persuasion”
I haven’t seen a line like that since the last Bowery Boys movie back in the day. Leo Gorcy made a career of that sort malaprop …. thanks for a great morning chuckle.
Thomas Mulcair and Pat Martin = the stuff of nightmares….they are the scariest thing about a PM Jack Layton…
Martin’s insulting reference to Kelly Block was certainly not reported very well by the media. No surpise there. There was absolutely nothing racist about the bill and, according to most reports, it was welcomed by the rank and file natives and those chiefs that had nothing to hide.
Block is a personable and extremely hard-working MP and is very visible within her riding. Contrast this to Martin who is nothing more than a blustering windbag who gives a whole new meaning to the term a**hole.
He is a man with a limited horizon- a turd hurler, nothing more, nothing less.
Just a piece of scum trying to hang on long enough to ensure that he gets a big pension at the taxpayer’s expense.
When that other Martin, Paul, was PM we used to laugh at Pat Martin’s bons mots, eg. “there is nothing more useless on God’s green earth than a Liberal backbencher”. Sadly, for a number of years now we have been seeing the other side of this narcissistic, publicity-seeking, raging buffoon and it is not pretty at all.
Pat Martin is undoubtedly in need of professional help, but he thinks he is pure, so he won’t seek it out. Unfortunately, that riding, Winnipeg Centre, is reflexively and stupidly NDP-voting. It was represented for decades by socialist St. Stanley Knowles whose boots, socialist as they were, Pat Martin is not worthy to lick. He is one very sick puppy.
Despite the apparent conspiracy by the Winnipeg Shackled Press and the rest of the MSM to hide Pat’s true nature from his constituents, some of it is probably getting through. I expect this time his margin of victory will be reduced relative to the last election. But he will still be elected. And as wacked out as he may be, he still has something to aspire to – he is not as wacked out as Libby Davies. Yet.
All of the above say it well.
I know Kelly block personally and there is not a racist thought in her mind and biffjr. is right. Kelly is personable and has been hardworking long before she became an MP.
Martin reminds me of Trotsky and Mulcair reminds me of Felix Dzerzhinsky the Cheka founder.
No doubt you have all seen the latest Ekos poll that shows Smiling Jack the Marxist seems to be doing a great job of wooing some voters away from the Liberals.
For many liberals, a male conservative is an enemy, but a female conservative is something far worse – a traitor.
Bat shit crazy.
Truly saddening knowing this is what passes for government in our country.
I live in Winnipeg and have been ashamed of Pat Martin for years. However, this is the first I’ve heard of this incident; I’m sure it wasn’t in any newspaper. Funny how the incident with Shelley Glover was national news when she was accused of “ageism” against Neville.
I remember Pat Martin being a guest on Charles Adler’s show when it was live on CPAC I believe in 2004. Even then Pat Martin was seething with anger and Adler commented on it.
This guy is ridiculous. And yet he thinks he’s right in everything he says because he’s standing up for the supposed righteousness of the left in this country. Those comments towards Kelly Block are completely uncalled for. What a jerk. But is it any surprise that the liberal-biased media didn’t report it? Of course not. Can’t discredit an NDP MP right?
Sounds like a story that the Sun News Network should pick up on.
Here is the classic example of “biting the hands that feed you”, Quebec going wildly after NDPEE, the very dopes that will shut down the MONEY TAPS, the evil TARRRRsands as Jack calls them, the people that send 9 billion a year Straight to Quebec. Go figure, Lenins court jester shutting down the economic driver that feeds a Province Quebec, who is 160 billion in debt on top of it all. Our so called MSM are the dangerous ones, aiding and abbetting the downfall of Canada like they have presided over, all while gloating in the USof A, unreal.
I live in Winnipeg-Centre, Pat Martin’s riding. The NDP could run a convicted pedophile here and still win.
This is a typical Leftist response. They do not counter the argument presented, instead they try to destroy the person presenting the argument.
Obviously, Martin’s bitter hatred towards conservative women is indicative of the systemic hatred of ALL women within the NDP ideology. Right? When John Baird argues passionately on an issue, the Left always says he’s “angry”, and that it shows that ALL conservatives are “angry”.
farmer joe @ 11:23 – that’s right out of Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals: Pick the Target, Freeze It, Personalize It and Polarize It.
Also note that ‘it’ is used instead of ‘him’ or ‘her’. Talk about dehumanizing.
think about this
A Coalition Coup led by Layton & Layton becomes the PM. Thats if a Conservative Minority happens.
Would this country be in bigtime touble?
So that said now will the Center Liberals seeing they may not be able to stop the Orange Crush swing their votes to Conservatives, Or would there be a Coup after the election within the Liberal Caucas & center liberals cross the floor to prevent this.
Dont forget all this prior coalition talk has been with Ignatieff leading the Coup with Layton just grabbing the coatails. Now this new scenario is predomiment on the horizon.
Which is even more troublesome for this country, A NDP Led Federal Govt with the support of Left Leaning Liberals, Dosanjj & Rae for example.
Despite having run a very gaffe-free campaign, notwithstanding the best efforts of the MSM to invent scandals, Harper still seems to be having difficulty motivating his troops. The prospect of an NDP-led coalition could be just what is needed to push his poll numbers decisively into majority territory by giving his supporters an issue to focus on. Up until now, that issue has been pretty elusive.
Off topic: Jack prepared to re-open constitution. I guess two days of success was too much for him to handle.
“Reopening Constitution not an ‘immediate issue,’ Layton says Globe and Mail”
Tall Jack Cane disappoints again.
‘Nother setback for Taliban Jack:
“Escaped Taliban prisoners
BBC News”
The apocalyptic vision of an NDP-led coalition is Canada’s worst nightmare come true. Layton’s wild promises simply cannot become reality without taxing the crap out of everyone and everything, especially when he wants no part of an economic engine like the Alberta oilsands. The NDP claim that tax cuts for corporations mean more dollars in the pockets of CEO’s is simplistic and unrealistic. Has Layton never heard of dividends and retained earnings? The man is a far more dangerous menace than Ignatieff will ever be.
The best thing for this country would be for the GG to state that if a minority government is defeated, another election will be held forthwith. This process will continue ad nauseam until a majority government is achieved or the opposition decides to compromise and co-operate with a minority government. No coalitions permitted! Perhaps then the House of Commons could function properly without the opposition devoting all their energies to defeating the government.
biffjr
there is nothing in the constitution that prevents a coalition
and as to “opening the constitution” for reform, the USA up dates theirs about every 7 years, and ours is long over due
Another radically progressive misogynist. Well frizzle mah grits.
If Pat Martin were a Tory MP, remarks like this would be headline news for days at a time, until the guy resigned or was forced out of caucus. Even then, such remarks would be presented as proof positive of the woman-hating, scary philosophy of the Conservative Party in general. But because he’s an avowed socialist, he gets a pass from the MSM. It now appears that the MSM can run interference for the NDP as well as they can for the Liberals.
“there is nothing in the constitution that prevents a coalition”
There is also nothing in the constitution preventing the GG from denying a coalition.
I live in Winnipeg-Centre, Pat Martin’s riding. The NDP could run a convicted pedophile here and still win.
Posted by: Brent at April 26, 2011 11:22 AM
Unfortunately Brent is very correct on that statement.
Another riding in Wpg, Elmwood Transcona, is a similar lost cause, having elected Bill Blakie NDP repeatedly, till his return to Manitoba to double dip as an MLA in the Manitoba Legislature. His riding was then taken in a by-election by fellow dipper Jim Malloway.
Another NDP strong hold was Winnipeg North, which was held by Judy Wasylycia-Leis , who also tried to double dip, by resigning her seat, and taking a run as Mayor of Winnipeg, fortunately she showed her lack of substance in the campaign and lost to the incumbent Mayor Sam Katz. In the by-election to fill Winnipeg North, it was won by LPC candidate Kevin Lamoureux. But now to win it back, the NDP brought in Rebecca Blaikie, Bill’s daughter, who lost in the last Federal Election, when she ran in a Quebec riding while she was a student there. Even though she is a relative (pun intended) neophyte, expect Winnipeg North to go back to NDP just because of her family name.
