If dental care was publicly funded, fewer people would become addicted to opioids.
That’s just one of the reasons Dr. Hasan Sheikh, an emergency room physician in Toronto, is calling on governments to expand medicare.

We Can Dream
… whether you’re pro-Trump or anti-Trump, it’s undeniable the current president is largely a response, a backlash even, to the excesses of Obama’s leadership, his determination to force through Democrat pet policies — Obamacare, climate regulations, the Iran deal — in spite of voter disapproval and, often, their hostility. When politicians are certain their cause is righteous, they can rationalize away accounting for the will of the people. But in democracies, the people eventually get their revenge. In the U.S. that vengeance looked like Donald Trump.
What it will look like in Canada we might soon find out, as tempers rise against unresponsive rulers in two powerful provinces, and possibly elsewhere. The picture in Alberta is particularly grim. As a new poll from Mainstreet Research for Postmedia confirms, the Alberta NDP is on an entirely different planet than the rest of the province on some of its biggest, most impactful policies.

The Sound Of Settled Science
With the benefit of hindsight, the story of the amyloid hypothesis will be written either as one where scientists soldiered on despite setbacks, or one where a wrong idea derailed a field for 25 years. And the field of Alzheimer’s research is no stranger to ideas inflated, abandoned, and sometimes resurrected.

Who’s Russian Whom?
Still, these things seem oddly familiar;
If Trump were the Manchurian candidate that people keep wanting to believe that he is, here are some of the things he’d be doing:
– Limiting fracking as much as he possibly could
– Blocking oil and gas pipelines
– Opening negotiations for major nuclear arms reductions
– Cutting U.S. military spending
– Trying to tamp down tensions with Russia’s ally Iran
That Trump is planning to do precisely the opposite of these things may or may not be good policy for the United States, but anybody who thinks this is a Russia appeasement policy has been drinking way too much joy juice.

We Don’t Need No Stinking Giant Fans
Ontario Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault’s admission Friday that the Liberals paid too much for wind and solar power won’t come as any comfort to the hundreds of thousands of Ontarians now living in energy poverty as a result.
What’s more, Thibeault’s excuse that the Liberals were well-intentioned and only realized their mistake with the benefit of 20-20 hindsight is absurd.
I hope Gordon Wyant is paying attention.
