I was told, but could not find any documented evidence, that each spring the Mississippi River was un-navigable. This was due to the large number of buffalo carcases floating down to the Gulf. If this were true, the removal of the buffalo has caused an imbalance in the river’s food chain. Thus, to return the waterway to natural conditions it would have to be mandatory for a few cows to be led to all waterways in the drainage system, be shot and left to go floating down. Not doing so is starving the fish.
