Most have valid email addresses in their respective university faculty directories. I personally felt that some level of push back was justified, given their demand for immediate authoritative implementation of these measures. I also knew that my attempt to get a similar letter published by MSM would fail.

We now have a large vaccinated population on the clock. At best we’re about 4 months behind Israel (I suspect it’s closer to 2 months). If and when the next strain comes along that has VIE / ADE properties and/or complete vaccine escape, our people are sitting ducks, and we will experience a wave that makes everything we’ve gone through to date look like child’s play.
And of course all that Canadians can think to do is beg their rulers for more restrictions, more lockdowns, more vaccines, more passports (lost in the noise around the AB announcement was that NB is also introducing a passport; I think that makes 6 or 7 provinces now? Probably only a matter of time until it becomes all 10). And our rulers will oblige. We will dutifully go down the road of the Aussies and the New Zealanders and utterly destroy ourselves.

I am considered “vaccine eligible” but have been advised that I should take it within a hospital setting due to severe allergies. NOT happening. The risk of the vaccine is far greater for me than Covid (which I have already had). So now I am an outcast – apparently it is illegal to have anyone to my home. Up theirs.

As I’ve posted elsewhere, hiding partially or newly vaccinated people among the “unvaccinated” could be either a poor statistical approach or a deliberate attempt to hide the truth, depending on how quickly side effects requiring a hospital visit occur after vaccination. We need to dig into this and find out, because if 90% of the people in hospital supposedly unvaccinated include any significant proportion of recently (or partially) vaccinated, then we have a totally different situation. It could be anything between a slight refining of the data, to a complete overturning of the significance of the distinction.
Alberta vaccination rates are probably lower than the example I gave elsewhere so I will repeat the analysis with an Alberta theme of 70% vaccination. Let’s take their word for the 91 to 9 ratio but keep in mind that the 91 could include some partially or recently vaccinated.
First of all, let’s say there are no such people in the sample, in that case, if there were 500 in hospital, 455 would be unvaccinated and 45 vaccinated. In a province with three million adults and adolescents, that means your chance of being hospitalized would be 45/(2.1 million ) if vaccinated, to 455/900,000 if unvaccinated. Those ratios reduce to 9/420,000 or 3/140,000 or 1/46.667 as compared to 91/180,000 which is close to 1/2,000. That implies your chance of hospitalization at random is 2000:46.67 or about 44:1. But if the 455 unvaccinated happened to include 182 recently vaccinated (40%) then your chances as an authentic non-vaccinated person are reduced to 273/540,000 and the vaccinated really have a rate of 227/2,46 million. Those ratios are closer to 5:1 in favour of vaccination. If the numbers being hidden are larger, then it begins to drop to 50:50.
I don’t think this has gone undetected or unnoticed. But it has gone unreported.
It could also be that the vaccination itself in the newly vaccinated plays a part in those hospitalized or in ICU.

This is a simple example using Bayes Rule, and the 50% works if the infection rate and testing accuracy add to 100% (2% rate and 98% accurate test, 0.1% and 99.9%, etc. )

I don’t believe we can trust the given info that 90% in the hospital are unvaccinated (even considering that fuzzy definition with newly vaccinated people hiding among the unvaccinated). That percentage is given using averages from January through September. The current situation is changed. Currently it works out to be about 75% unvaccinated in the hospitals. 41.96% of the Covid-19 deaths in September in Alberta were of vaccinated people – mostly elderly. Vaccinations are obviously waning.
From our AB gov’t website statistics – vaccine outcomes – using provided info from Aug 31st and Sept 14th you can discern that there are rising percentages of vaccinated people entering the hospital and dying. (Feel free to correct the quick math here if it is off).

I think it’s important to note where the current problems are emerging. According to this CBC reporter, there’s a major spike in case counts among the 80+ https://twitter.com/CBCFletch/status/1438298072182759425 during this current wave . This is due to several outbreaks in care homes in the North, South, and Central zones (rather than the big cities). That is likely why we are seeing such a rapid rise in ICU and other hospitalizations, as well as deaths (in the last report, 80% or so were over 70).
I have two questions as a result. Exactly how many care home cases will be stopped by “encouraging” the use of vaxxpasses at restaurants and other facilities? Also, how many of the unvaxxed in hospital are elderly who are unable to be vaxxed (or they didn’t bother because they are moribund)?
Closing the gyms will stop those 80 year olds partying hardy and running around. Will they only be allowed to walk to the bathroom if they have a vax passport? Would that be a vax pissport?

If and when the next strain comes along that has VIE / ADE properties and/or complete vaccine escape, our people are sitting ducks, and we will experience a wave that makes everything we’ve gone through to date look like child’s play.
And of course all that Canadians can think to do is beg their rulers for more restrictions, more lockdowns, more vaccines, more passports (lost in the noise around the AB announcement was that NB is also introducing a passport; I think that makes 6 or 7 provinces now? Probably only a matter of time until it becomes all 10). And our rulers will oblige. We will dutifully go down the road of the Aussies and the New Zealanders and utterly destroy ourselves.

I am considered “vaccine eligible” but have been advised that I should take it within a hospital setting due to severe allergies. NOT happening. The risk of the vaccine is far greater for me than Covid (which I have already had). So now I am an outcast – apparently it is illegal to have anyone to my home. Up theirs.

As I’ve posted elsewhere, hiding partially or newly vaccinated people among the “unvaccinated” could be either a poor statistical approach or a deliberate attempt to hide the truth, depending on how quickly side effects requiring a hospital visit occur after vaccination. We need to dig into this and find out, because if 90% of the people in hospital supposedly unvaccinated include any significant proportion of recently (or partially) vaccinated, then we have a totally different situation. It could be anything between a slight refining of the data, to a complete overturning of the significance of the distinction.
Alberta vaccination rates are probably lower than the example I gave elsewhere so I will repeat the analysis with an Alberta theme of 70% vaccination. Let’s take their word for the 91 to 9 ratio but keep in mind that the 91 could include some partially or recently vaccinated.
First of all, let’s say there are no such people in the sample, in that case, if there were 500 in hospital, 455 would be unvaccinated and 45 vaccinated. In a province with three million adults and adolescents, that means your chance of being hospitalized would be 45/(2.1 million ) if vaccinated, to 455/900,000 if unvaccinated. Those ratios reduce to 9/420,000 or 3/140,000 or 1/46.667 as compared to 91/180,000 which is close to 1/2,000. That implies your chance of hospitalization at random is 2000:46.67 or about 44:1. But if the 455 unvaccinated happened to include 182 recently vaccinated (40%) then your chances as an authentic non-vaccinated person are reduced to 273/540,000 and the vaccinated really have a rate of 227/2,46 million. Those ratios are closer to 5:1 in favour of vaccination. If the numbers being hidden are larger, then it begins to drop to 50:50.
I don’t think this has gone undetected or unnoticed. But it has gone unreported.
It could also be that the vaccination itself in the newly vaccinated plays a part in those hospitalized or in ICU.

Ans: the probability is 50%, and you should retest to be sure.
This is a simple example using Bayes Rule, and the 50% works if the infection rate and testing accuracy add to 100% (2% rate and 98% accurate test, 0.1% and 99.9%, etc. )

I don’t believe we can trust the given info that 90% in the hospital are unvaccinated (even considering that fuzzy definition with newly vaccinated people hiding among the unvaccinated). That percentage is given using averages from January through September. The current situation is changed. Currently it works out to be about 75% unvaccinated in the hospitals. 41.96% of the Covid-19 deaths in September in Alberta were of vaccinated people – mostly elderly. Vaccinations are obviously waning.
From our AB gov’t website statistics – vaccine outcomes – using provided info from Aug 31st and Sept 14th you can discern that there are rising percentages of vaccinated people entering the hospital and dying. (Feel free to correct the quick math here if it is off).
“Aug 31st – 91.9% of cases (138,716/150,979) since Jan 1, 2021 were unvaccinated or diagnosed within two weeks from the first dose immunization date”

San Antonio has roughly the same number of people as Calgary but has roughly 1.5x more ICU beds than Alberta.

I think it’s important to note where the current problems are emerging. This is due to several outbreaks in care homes in the North, South, and Central zones (rather than the big cities). That is likely why we are seeing such a rapid rise in ICU and other hospitalizations, as well as deaths (in the last report, 80% or so were over 70).
I have two questions as a result. Exactly how many care home cases will be stopped by “encouraging” the use of vaxxpasses at restaurants and other facilities? Also, how many of the unvaxxed in hospital are elderly who are unable to be vaxxed (or they didn’t bother because they are moribund)?
Closing the gyms will stop those 80 year olds partying hardy and running around. Will they only be allowed to walk to the bathroom if they have a vax passport? Would that be a vax pissport?
