THOSE DIRTY RUSSIANS: They’re already signaling the direction the so-called “foreign interference inquiry” will take.
After months of deliberations, the federal government is launching a public inquiry into foreign election interference in Canada, and has found a judge to lead it.
Minister of Public Safety, Democratic Institutions and Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic LeBlanc announced Tuesday that Quebec Court of Appeal Justice Marie-Josée Hogue will serve as commissioner to lead the probe, which will look beyond China to other foreign meddling.
“Justice Hogue will be tasked with examining and assessing interference by China, Russia, and other foreign states and non-state actors, including any potential impacts to confirm the integrity of, and impacts on, the 2019 and 2021 general elections at the national and the electoral district levels,” LeBlanc said.

Don’t Worry, It’s Transitory
Our old friend “unexpectedly” is back.
Canada’s economy unexpectedly contracted in the second quarter at an annualized rate of 0.2% and growth was most likely flat in July, data showed on Friday, a signal to the central bank ahead of its meeting next week that interest rates are high enough.
The second-quarter reading was far lower than the Bank of Canada’s (BoC’s) forecast for a 1.5% annualized GDP growth as well as the 1.2% gain expected by analysts.
The quarterly slowdown was largely due to declines in housing investment and smaller inventory accumulation as well as slower international exports and household spending, Statistics Canada said.

Persistent inflation concerns continue to influence behaviours, with roughly nine in 10 Canadians reporting food is more expensive than it was three months ago, and more noticing the practice of “shrinkflation.”
Caddle conducted a representative survey of over 3,000 Canadians in July 2023.
It found that meat still dominates as the food category the public feels is the most expensive, though only 42% believed that this year, compared to 50% in a similar survey conducted in 2022. There has also been a drop in the amount of people who believe dairy (3%) and seafood (1%) have risen, though categories like fruit and bakery are still seen as more expensive than a year ago. […]
While food price spikes are abating in some areas and climbing in others, consumers are taking more note of “shrinkflation,” the practice of maintaining a product’s price, but reducing its size. In fact, 44% of consumers report “shrinkflation” among baked goods, compared with 39% in 2022.
“Shrinkflation” is not a new phenomenon, Charlebois says, but more buyers are taking note, especially in categories like meat, baked goods and dairy.
Related from @FoodProfessor – “If Statistics Canada is significantly underestimating our nation’s population, it implies that many of our food policies are, at best, founded on unreliable data.”

Yesterday, Anita Anand and Ryan Turnbull stood before a photo shoot, grinning ear to ear, patting themselves on the back, telling us how they’re such heroes for spending $219 million of taxpayer money to bring “high-speed Internet” to 66,472 households in Ontario. Let me put it in perspective for you. That’s $3,294 per household—funded by you, the Canadian taxpayer. […]
Why would a government, supposedly by the people, for the people, go to such lengths to ignore what is clearly a better, more cost-effective option? Well, the answer may be uncomfortably simple: it’s not a government of the people, it’s a government for their corporate lobbyists. Lacking both imagination and business sense, they’d rather hand a $219 million gift to the telecom giants like it’s some sort of business-as-usual transaction.
Take Minister Anita Anand, for instance. She’s keen to tell us all about the marvelous ‘investment’ they’re making in fast Internet. Well, isn’t it funny how that investment seems to directly benefit companies like Telus, to the tune of billions? And speaking of funny business, don’t get me started on the fact that her husband’s company somehow started receiving millions in federal contracts right after she was elected. A sheer coincidence, I’m sure.

Is immigration a factor in Canada’s housing crisis? Last week, the Trudeau Liberals were downplaying ties, the government’s supporters saying that making the link was nothing more than a dog whistle to racists.
This week, as the government holds a cabinet retreat focused on the housing crisis, several ministers are saying the links must be explored.
He Admires Their Basic Dictatorship
Good morning, folks. In a shocking turn of events out of Eastern Canada – or maybe not so shocking given the liberal tide sweeping Ontarios institutions – Ontario’s court has just ruled against the renowned professor and free speech advocate, Dr. Jordan Peterson. Yes, you heard that right. Dr. Peterson, an individual who has always advocated for intellectual freedom and has pushed against the stifling boundaries of political correctness, has been ordered to undergo – wait for it – social media training.
So, what’s his big crime? Well, Peterson, a well-respected member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario, dared to use his online platform to comment on various public issues – including giving his opinion on a plus-sized model and actor Elliot Page. For this, the governing body received complaints and deemed that Peterson’s public statements could possibly be “professional misconduct.” Can you believe that? This is where we’re heading – criticize or merely have a different perspective on mainstream liberal narratives, and you might be at risk of losing your professional license.
Dr. Peterson did what any sane person would. He challenged this decision, arguing that his political commentary isn’t within the college’s jurisdiction. But the Ontario Divisional Court didn’t see it that way. They upheld the college’s decision, claiming it’s within their mandate to regulate the profession “in the public interest.” And, of course, they added the cherry on top by asserting it doesn’t affect his freedom of expression. Sure, just undergo forced training for expressing your opinions. Sounds very free to me.
Remember, Jordan Peterson isn’t just some random figure. He’s a retired University of Toronto psychology professor who’s made waves with his deep critiques of liberal culture and has penned the successful book, “12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos.” But apparently, in today’s climate, academic achievements and a career dedicated to the exploration of free thought means little if you don’t toe the line of the so-called ‘woke’ agenda.
When one looks at the latest ruling against Jordan Peterson in Ontario, it’s hard not to think that we’re witnessing the makings of a Banana Republic in action.
Our Chinese-Installed Government In Ottawa
Mayor Brad West, arguably Beijing’s sharpest critic in Canadian politics, says he was provided evidence the Chinese Communist Party plotted to run a candidate against him in British Columbia’s 2022 municipal elections, and CSIS warned him that diplomats in China’s Vancouver Consulate were concerned West’s political trajectory could “represent a real threat to their aims and objectives.”
In an exclusive interview, the two-term Port Coquitlam mayor disclosed to The Bureau that CSIS is aware of posts on WeChat suggesting Beijing tried to unseat him in last year’s election.
While West doesn’t know how CSIS has assessed the case, he thinks Canadians need to know the details, in part to hold Ottawa’s feet to the fire as attention wanders from Beijing’s federal election interference, and the Trudeau Government remains inactive on Chinese threats.
West said weeks after he was acclaimed mayor in October 2022, several Chinese community sources delivered records showing that pro-Beijing figures tied to Chinese diplomats in Vancouver used WeChat in August and September 2022 — albeit unsuccessfully — trying to recruit a candidate “the Chinese community could get behind” to defeat West.
