Like Lovers* Kept From Each Other’s Arms

“I don’t know why I was turned back,” Ayers said in an interview this morning from Chicago. “I got off the plane like everyone else and I was asked to come over to the other side. The border guards reviewed some stuff and said I wasn’t going to be allowed into Canada. To me it seems quite bureaucratic and not at all interesting … If it were me I would have let me in. I couldn’t possibly be a threat to Canada.”

Andrew Wyeth’s Death Offers (Another) Opportunity To Heap Scorn On “Art” World

Wyeth_wind_from_the_sea.jpgEven when Wyeth is admitted into the canon, he’s held a bit at arm’s length. The Museum of Modern Art in New York City owns his most famous canvas, Christina’s World, which it acquired in 1948, soon after it was painted, for just $1,800. But while the picture is always on display at MoMA, it’s consigned to what you might call an anteroom on the margins of the more respectably modern galleries…”
He argues it is difficult
to judge abstract painting. “There are different approaches, there is a formal approach and then there is a free-form approach that comes off a more intuitive base. And if you’re thinking about the latter, perhaps a two-year-old can do it as well as a 30-year-old.”

(They didn’t think much of Ken Danby, either.)

How To Depress A Quebecois Reporter

During my QPAC days in Quebec, the Journal de Montreal liked to refer to me in their headlines as l’Anglohone Juif Galganov. In translation: Anglo Jew Galganov. Where was the Human Rights Commission then?
The Journal de Montreal can best be described as a sensationalist tabloid that mixes gossip, sports and news. It should also be noted that more than a million French Quebecers read the Journal de Montreal every day.
The reporter expected me to answer her question with a degree of outrage towards this coalition, so imagine her surprise when I told her that I was all for it?

Fighting over the carrion

The headliner is Rae vs. Ignatieff, but the real action is the first fight of the night in the Liberal light-weight category.
Goodale vs. McCallum promises to be a barn-burner!
Goodale, a 185 lb farmer from Regina-Wascana will go up against former bank financier McCallum at 175 lbs. The trainers are predicting a good fight and it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser in the lead up to the main event.
Ralph has to keep McCallum on the outside and connect with one of his patented outrages. John on the other hand needs to get in quick and mumble something about the economy.
It’s sure to be a great night Ladies and Gentlemen, enjoy and don’t forget to pick up some popcorn at the concession.
Cheers,
lance

Citius, Altius, Milli Vanillius

International Olympic Committee executive director Gilbert Felli also defended the use of a more photogenic double, comparing it to an athlete taking part in Olympic qualification and then being dropped for the main event.”

Or, having the superior bid as an Olympic hosting city, but being dropped in favour of better offers.

Asked how Yang’s parents would explain the decision to her, Felli added: “That is what it is in sport, in life.”

We now return you to coverage of synchronized diving and beach volleyball….

Y2Kyoto: The B-S One

Big Al prepares for the ocean’s rise;

The boat is a custom-built Fantasy Yacht built specifically for Gore by Bill Austin of Sparta, Tennessee.
According to Austin, the engines are bio-diesel fueled and Gore can expect to use about two gallons an hour to cruise Center Hill Lake. With a 500 gallon capacity Austin says Gore won’t need a refill for “two or three years” though he admits having “no clue” about where Gore could get bio-diesel at the lake. The Hurricane Marina dock doesn’t sell it.

Complete with Jet Ski.

When Your Target Audience Is Stay-At-Home Moms

Is it possible that some vote Republican?

The reality, however, is that “Oprah” is finishing second and third in major markets across the country this summer. And these ratings have some of us wondering if Oprah is working for her audience anymore.

TV writer Aaron Barnhart examines the ratings meltdown in typical media style;

The show has been drifting back to Earth, losing 7 percent of its audience nationwide this year alone. O Magazine saw a double-digit decline in circulation. Authors can no longer count on the “Oprah effect.” And her endorsement of Barack Obama may have turned off, literally, viewers who supported Hillary Clinton.

Or, you know – Romney, McCain, or Huckabee?
Flashback to Dec.9, 2007 – “With this first-ever foray into presidential politics, Winfrey is breaking new ground, her campaigns to defeat obesity and illiteracy behind her.”

Who Is Matthew Good?

I mean, is this someone I should know?.
His so-called “child” soldier witnessed the destruction of 9/11. Thus, this so-called “Canadian” chose to fight at the side of foreign terrorists he knew were capable of mass murder. And after finding himself on the losing end of a firefight, this so-called “anxious innocent” watched his one, last “help me” opportunity come and go as he lay in the Afghan dirt.
Instead of grabbing it, he threw a grenade.
So, now he begs?
Omar Khadr deserved to be dispatched then and there. His father might have been dispatched by the Pakistanis, which would have spared everyone a great deal of trouble, were it not for the meddling of Chretien. We made that mistake once – we need not make it again.
So yes, Mr. Good – kill them all. Kill every last one of the wretched vermin and do it before they breed.
I hope he appreciates the traffic bump, whoever he is.
Update – Self described blogging behemoth Matt Good sent a total of 190 visitors to SDA as a result of his July 15th link. Woohoo! Why, that’s nearly 100 a day – bumping the traffic here by nearly 1%, or to look at it another way, by 1/5th the number who arrived at the page via Kathy Shaidle in six hours.
If there ever was a way to impress a backwoods xenophobe about the strength of your readership, I can’t think of a better one. Except perhaps, by mentioning the 70 times you’ve “crossed the country”. Hey, it’s a start!
Upperdate! – unable to prove his “my traffic is bigger than yours” claims, Mr. Good decided that deletion was the better part of valor. Not that it stopped him from whining. Nevermind that Mr. Ad Hominem Is Not Tolerated Here chose to fire the first shot with tired, stereotypical references to “backwoods” Canada that can only be described as abject bigotry. Like every good lefty elitist, Matthew Good’s “multiculturalism” doesn’t include yours.

“So I told you this morning about how Iran made its missile test photos look more impressive by adding another missile using the magic of Photoshop. Whatever, we can do better than that. You want to impress us, Iran? Let’s see some serious tech power. We’ll help. Your challege, Gizmodians, is to use Photoshop to create some sweet Iranian propaganda, showing their technological advancements that are heretofore unseen.”
