Fighting over the carrion

The headliner is Rae vs. Ignatieff, but the real action is the first fight of the night in the Liberal light-weight category.
Goodale vs. McCallum promises to be a barn-burner!
Goodale, a 185 lb farmer from Regina-Wascana will go up against former bank financier McCallum at 175 lbs. The trainers are predicting a good fight and it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser in the lead up to the main event.
Ralph has to keep McCallum on the outside and connect with one of his patented outrages. John on the other hand needs to get in quick and mumble something about the economy.
It’s sure to be a great night Ladies and Gentlemen, enjoy and don’t forget to pick up some popcorn at the concession.
Cheers,

Citius, Altius, Milli Vanillius

International Olympic Committee executive director Gilbert Felli also defended the use of a more photogenic double, comparing it to an athlete taking part in Olympic qualification and then being dropped for the main event.”

Or, having the superior bid as an Olympic hosting city, but being dropped in favour of better offers.

Asked how Yang’s parents would explain the decision to her, Felli added: “That is what it is in sport, in life.”

We now return you to coverage of synchronized diving and beach volleyball….

Y2Kyoto: The B-S One

Big Al prepares for the ocean’s rise;

The boat is a custom-built Fantasy Yacht built specifically for Gore by Bill Austin of Sparta, Tennessee.
According to Austin, the engines are bio-diesel fueled and Gore can expect to use about two gallons an hour to cruise Center Hill Lake. With a 500 gallon capacity Austin says Gore won’t need a refill for “two or three years” though he admits having “no clue” about where Gore could get bio-diesel at the lake. The Hurricane Marina dock doesn’t sell it.

Complete with Jet Ski.

When Your Target Audience Is Stay-At-Home Moms

Is it possible that some vote Republican?

The reality, however, is that “Oprah” is finishing second and third in major markets across the country this summer. And these ratings have some of us wondering if Oprah is working for her audience anymore.

TV writer Aaron Barnhart examines the ratings meltdown in typical media style;

The show has been drifting back to Earth, losing 7 percent of its audience nationwide this year alone. O Magazine saw a double-digit decline in circulation. Authors can no longer count on the “Oprah effect.” And her endorsement of Barack Obama may have turned off, literally, viewers who supported Hillary Clinton.

Or, you know – Romney, McCain, or Huckabee?
Flashback to Dec.9, 2007 – “With this first-ever foray into presidential politics, Winfrey is breaking new ground, her campaigns to defeat obesity and illiteracy behind her.”

Who Is Matthew Good?

I mean, is this someone I should know?.
His so-called “child” soldier witnessed the destruction of 9/11. Thus, this so-called “Canadian” chose to fight at the side of foreign terrorists he knew were capable of mass murder. And after finding himself on the losing end of a firefight, this so-called “anxious innocent” watched his one, last “help me” opportunity come and go as he lay in the Afghan dirt.
Instead of grabbing it, he threw a grenade.
So, now he begs?
Omar Khadr deserved to be dispatched then and there. His father might have been dispatched by the Pakistanis, which would have spared everyone a great deal of trouble, were it not for the meddling of Chretien. We made that mistake once – we need not make it again.
So yes, Mr. Good – kill them all. Kill every last one of the wretched vermin and do it before they breed.
I hope he appreciates the traffic bump, whoever he is.
Update – Self described blogging behemoth Matt Good sent a total of 190 visitors to SDA as a result of his July 15th link. Woohoo! Why, that’s nearly 100 a day – bumping the traffic here by nearly 1%, or to look at it another way, by 1/5th the number who arrived at the page via Kathy Shaidle in six hours.
If there ever was a way to impress a backwoods xenophobe about the strength of your readership, I can’t think of a better one. Except perhaps, by mentioning the 70 times you’ve “crossed the country”. Hey, it’s a start!
Upperdate! – unable to prove his “my traffic is bigger than yours” claims, Mr. Good decided that deletion was the better part of valor. Not that it stopped him from whining. Nevermind that Mr. Ad Hominem Is Not Tolerated Here chose to fire the first shot with tired, stereotypical references to “backwoods” Canada that can only be described as abject bigotry. Like every good lefty elitist, Matthew Good’s “multiculturalism” doesn’t include yours.

“So I told you this morning about how Iran made its missile test photos look more impressive by adding another missile using the magic of Photoshop. Whatever, we can do better than that. You want to impress us, Iran? Let’s see some serious tech power. We’ll help. Your challege, Gizmodians, is to use Photoshop to create some sweet Iranian propaganda, showing their technological advancements that are heretofore unseen.”

Fat City

Regina, fat city. Fifty percent are overweight with 23% listed as obese.

Diller says obviously inactivity contributes to weight gain as well. So a mix of healthy eating and activity is essential to being fit.. which is hard in today’s world of fast food chains, and hectic lifestyles.

Except it doesn’t seem all that hard for the other half of the population.

When 50% of your sample is going against the environmental conditions for which you lay blame then maybe . . . just maybe, the environmental conditions aren’t to blame.

The Planet Has A Fever

Along with a bad case of Nobel Gases;

In the year since Al Gore took steps to make his home more energy-efficient, the former Vice President’s home energy use surged more than 10%, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.
[…]
In the past year, Gore’s home burned through 213,210 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power 232 average American households for a month.

Gutting Guantánamo

John McCain on Friday;

…described the decision by the Supreme Court to allow Guantánamo Bay prisoners to challenge their detention in US courts as “one of the worst decisions in the history of this country”.
The Republican presidential candidate said he agreed with the four dissenting justices on the nine-member court that foreign fighters held at the detention camp were not entitled to the rights of US citizens.
He criticised Barack Obama, his Democratic opponent, for supporting the decision and said it highlighted the importance of nominating conservative judges to the Supreme Court. His remarks represented a hardening of his position from his more moderate initial response to the ruling on Thursday, signalling a strategic decision by the McCain campaign to make it an election issue.

In Afghanistan, the Taliban hailed the decision.

Fred Thompson gets my nod for quote of the day,

In reading the majority opinion I am struck by the utter waste that is involved here. No, not the waste of military resources and human life, although such a result is tragically obvious. I refer to the waste of all those years these justices spent in law school studying how adherence to legal precedent is the bedrock of the rule of law, when it turns out, all they really needed was a Pew poll, a subscription to the New York Times, and the latest edition of “How to Make War for Dummies.”

Or How to Lose Wars, For Democrats.

Blog Notes

A note to readers who commented on this May 22nd post titled “Return Of The Orchard Davidians (Bumped)”.
Due to a technical problem too complicated to explain here, adjustments were made that have resulted in the comments being unpublished. This, I sincerely regret. The technical problem did not originate at SDA, but stemmed from an incoming link from a site widely known for its frequent intellectual outages and related traffic meter malfunctions.
Actually, the change took place over 24 hours ago, but I did not mention it before now due to time constraints.
And because, mischief is important.

Return Of The Orchard Davidians (Bumped)

An excited James Curran has the good news;

“Following an extensive period of consultation across the riding, I have decided to put my name forward as a candidate for the Liberal Party nomination in the northern Saskatchewan riding of Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River.” – David Orchard

Canada’s political poltergeist is back!
Update – James replies in the comments;

Turner and Orchard? Belinda and Scottie? See a trend? Most Progressive Conservatives with any real Progressive values have jumped ship from the Alliance/Reform Harpercrites.

To which I reply…. There go the vases!

• And, yes, I am dead Liberal meat. I mean, the evidence is overwhelming. I read just days ago that Stephane Dion had thrown my sorry, misogynistic ass out of the caucus room.
I watched on television as weaselette Jane Taber told a breathless Mike Duffy all about the actual slides I used in my PowerPoint presentation to national caucus on May 14th, the reaction of female colleagues to my “tasteless” display and the whupping I took from Dion himself.

And speaking of broken glass everywhere – Cherniak is spot on in his assessment that Warren Kinsella has less than pure motives in opposing the Dion carbon tax scheme.
After all, this is a man who accuses those who oppose CHRC legal abuses in the pursuit of “hate speech” of being sympathetic to the views of the neo-Nazis and supremacists they target.
Therefore, one has no choice but to assume that Kinsella’s publicly expressed “personal” opinions are utterly and completely informed by his own self interests in keeping his corporate clients happy. Not just on the carbon tax issue, but on any and all matters.
So, Jason – don’t back down on this one. If you’re going to have any hope of one day getting off the porch to run with the big dogs of politics, you’re first going to have to demonstrate that you won’t let go when you’ve collared a little yapper.
Update! – That’s my boy!
