The Count Is 0-and-2....

Using her best Maya Angelou impersonation, Oprah Winfrey yesterday endorsed Democratic candidate Barack Obama for audiences in Iowa. With this first-ever foray into presidential politics, Winfrey is breaking new ground, her campaigns to defeat obesity and illiteracy behind her.

Obama must be hoping that her current campaign will go better than her past campaign to defeat obesity.

Wah yuck......so what. Are we supposed to care?

Did you say Oprah broke wind?

Choosing who will be in charge of the most powerful nation in the history of the world
is serious business and that is why
I find it scary to think tens of millions of women who buy a book or a brand of marmalade simply because Oprah liked it will vote for a candidate simply because Oprah likes him

really scary...

Oprah the richest racist in America strikes again!

Posted by: Knight 99 at December 9, 2007 10:28 PM

Given how many women anchor their lives on Oprah's every spoken word, I'd say Obama just received a good chunk of the female democratic vote.

As Knight99 implies, I wonder what would happen if the richest white man in America purposely chose a white candidate because of his race?

I would like a F-350 dually.
Thanks Oprah!!!

Syncroslimey.

Posted by: syncrodox at December 9, 2007 11:23 PM

Interesting that Oprah would be so vehemently against a candidate that has professed for so long to be one who advances the cause of Blacks in America. (remember her new-found accent?) That accent wasn't lost on Oprah. Here we have Democrats that see themselves as champions of the African American locked in a battle such as this! The irony is simply too much!!!

Oprah? Can't we get real here? I'm waiting for my instructions from Martha Stewart.

Posted by: BCer at December 9, 2007 11:36 PM

Conservatives should be loving this and heres why.. race obcessed blacks running against elitist globalists. This is the perfect opportunity to see the left self destruct and all we have to do is fan the flames from the sidelines.

Posted by: real conservative at December 9, 2007 11:47 PM

"That is why for the very first time in my life I feel compelled to stand up and speak out for the man who I believe has a new vision for America."

Or is because this is the first time in her life a black man is running for president? Just asking.

To fight back and show how 'of the people' they are, three generations of Rodham/Clinton women has breaky at a slop house in Iowa.

See it HERE

I dislike the Clintons so much, I see this as a good thing.

Maya Angelou is just another one of those wacky new age crack-pots blabbering this pagan gaia poppycock bull kaka she is as out of her mind as the rest of those wacko eco-freak nut cases

Did anyone see Oprah in the background as Obama began his speech? She was mouthing the words and nodding with him.

Hmmm ... I wonder who might have coached him on his speech delivery. Not very subtle. She should have been behind a curtain.

Just exactly how is a Vice-President selected anyway? How about Attorney-General?
Just askin.

Posted by: Gunney99 at December 10, 2007 12:32 AM

The VP is chosen by whomever is selected to run for the party. That person will also appoint all the other important portfolios if elected prez. That's it.

Posted by: John West at December 10, 2007 12:54 AM

Meesh.....Ha ha exactly....

Oprah > The richest American racist puppet master!

And all those silly nukes to dispose of. I know lets have a charity auction, sound like fun girls?

Marc I'm with you.

Oprah is not fooling anyone. Her support for Obama is has a lot of color in it. Really can't be surprised at that but what help she will bring to Obama remains to be played out.

IMHO, Oprah has become increasingly condescending and obviously patronizing, her show is HER show. She has reached such high success she can do or say whatever she pleases without it harming her lifestyle so if her actions seem to say 'up your's,so be it.

As opposed to who Rosie O Donnel would have endorsed?

If this keeps Hillary, and Bill, away from the White House I am happy.

...As Knight99 implies, I wonder what would happen if the richest white man in America purposely chose a white candidate because of his race?

Don't you know only white people can be racist?

( sarcasm )

If Opra has this kind of power over the afternoon couch-bound woman in America I will NEVER let the chocolate munching bints live it down.

Women's liberation?...turn off your TVs and leave the couch behind girls.

Even though it appears that Obama and Hillary are cannibalizing each other, I won't be surprised to see them form a ticket together in the end. They need each other. It's interesting that with the mountain of Hillary dirt at their disposal - Whitewater, Travelgate, FBI files in her possesion in the WH, and much more that could be used against her - none of her Dem rivals are using it. They are preserving their potential spot with her.

A Hillary/Obama ticket is my guess when it's all said and done. She'll keep him on a short leash, he'll deliver the black vote and will serve as the "nice guy" bait.

Posted by: penny at December 10, 2007 9:20 AM

I can't help but think that either Obama or Clinton as President would be a disaster. Surprising that the Democrats can't come up with decent candidates, or is it?

Posted by: Steve at December 10, 2007 11:22 AM

...her campaigns to defeat obesity and illiteracy behind her.

She'd be "0 for 2" then, would she?

My liberal spouse always has Winfrey on. I busy myself at the computer nearby.

I remember an article in the National Post about five years ago. It was a casual contributor. The young woman's friend had two tickets for Winfrey's show in Chicago. She wrote of her experience there. She spoke of the three hour preparation and the absolutely flawless machinations previously.

I remember she remarked on the handsome well coifed white women as was her friend. She noted later how the camera panned on these women. She called them "Soccer Mom Hotties". She was not being snide.

I have wondered about these ubiquitous women. What is their median income? What is their particular responsibility in this life? Do they have any worries- real ones?

I have no idea what is in Winfrey's head as to her feelings about these women. I know she gave a little homily on her mother, telling her to work for "good white folks"
"Ah got good white folks, lottsa white folks" quoth she. Pointing out at least one white male employee- who had the good sense to smile and wave. "Yeah white folks working for me".

Charisma by the ton. One wonders how it will all end?

Haven't watched Oprah for years, and have never bought or read her magazine.
Think Obama, Oprah ticket.

Posted by: MaryT at December 11, 2007 12:41 AM

I wonder if Oprah will be as successful in Kate in trying to promote a particular political agenda during an election campaign...here's to watching with interest!

Posted by: JohnnyRingo at December 11, 2007 5:43 PM

Peter - just ask your wife - what are her worries?

Oprah won the nomination (and the presidency) for Obama. She won't be on the ticket - and just so y'all know I can't stand her either (my "liberal" ie. "normal" spouse watches Oprah too). But, she means well, and Obama just won the election.

Read it and weep.

PS - for a bunch of people who claim to speak of "issues" on this blog, you are awfully quick to notice peoples skin color. Think about that...
