Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

But… but… if we stop flushing, wherever will these experts get the raw materials so necessary for their endless pronouncements?
Garth
(“Verbal diarrhea,” indeed.)
If it’s a success, perhaps we could look towards a more extended campaign
I’d like to wish all SDA readers and commenters a happy World Toilet Day.
At least half of the world population lacks the piped water necessary to operate a flush toilet, and most of those don’t even have an outdoor privy.
Now there is a genuine problem worth solving
Instead, the boffins want to replace something that works with a hugely more expensive and less efficient system for us wealthy folks.
What planet do those educated idiots live on?
Most places frequented by Liberals tend to have soiled and unflushed toilets anyway.
So, what’s the biggy?
What amazes me is that most folks are gullible enough to believe that the water used in the toilet somehow de-materializes once it gets flushed. The liquids are purified and returned back to nature. The solids are sorted/separated with organics turned into fertilizer and inorganic material taken to the landfill… Unless you’re Vancouver where they pump it all straight out into the ocean….
Did I miss ‘world outhouse day’, huh?
So hard to keep up anymore…
We could certainly switch to more efficient toilets, but that’s as far as I’m willing to take this. I don’t want human waste used as fertilizer, and I don’t want my town smelling like India.
Richard Evans….
Halifax too.
There’s just something about crossing the harbour on the ferry and watching jellyfish and pads float along…
Not.
Have had the unpleasant experience of using “dry” urinals. They stink horribly.
If one lives in an area where water is drawn from a river and the treated effleuent is deposited downstream in same river, is that not recycling? Most of if not all treated sewage is used as a fertilizer anyway. I do however agree with low flush toilets. Why use more treated water than is necassary?
There are certainly more extravagant wastes of water than flushing toilets.
most toilet flush in the key of E flatulance.
maybe we can have a music selection in that key tonight.
Air on a G string?
World Toilet Day — why is everything about the economy?
They forgot to leave an address for where I’m supposed to send my solids…
Wait, the average person uses 8 sheets a day? I use half a roll so it looks like I’m balancing out Sheryl Crow.
“Mr Sims said a culture where people flushed their loos but disregarded the thousands of litres of wasted drinking water each year was one of sanitation’s greatest challenges.”
Yeah well where I live, fresh water falls from the sky!
No really, it does! Lots of it too!
But if you don’t do anything with it it just runs back into the chuck.
…i still don’t know what the three shells do.
I could not resist this.
Who do you call a guy pushing outhouses over?
Answer: John Turner.
These people are full of …
Oh, how embarrassed it we be looking back on this nonsense. Sure we will try to explain to our grandkids it was just a few university kooks and crooked politicians but you just know they won’t believe us.
World Toilet Day — why is everything about the economy?
~Peter O’Donnell
These people are Communists, Peter.
Everything is economic/political in their world view.
Not flushing my toilet isn’t going to provide toilets or water for people who don’t have any.
These “experts” are not privy to knowledge that proves any different, although they have probably worked harder than most to make the world into a toilet.
If I were to celebrate any odd day it would be “Talk like a Pirate Day” not “World Toilet Day”.
I’m certain there must not be a day left in the year that hasn’t been labeled by some group as a World Something Or Other Day. Friggin’ ridiculous.
And these nitwits want to increase that number by taking away the toilets that adequate.
And all these years I considered Thomas Crapper a hero…
Apparently none of these folks has used an outhouse in Canada in winter…
I vote for
Thomas Crapper Day
That last line should read “that ARE adequate.”
All you flush down is seperated at the sewage treatment plant. Here is the best part; it’s used for fertilizer, suprise….suprise. The water is returned to be used buy the esystem again. Bird brains every under every rock.
Jack Sims should start a world wide SRP (sh*t reclamation Project) and create a fleet of tankers equipped to handle this Sh*t. How about oil tankers that return empty to the middle east? If all sewers are diverted into collection areas and pumped into SRP tankers and then sent to the fore mentioned countries; this situation would be solved.
In Edmonton we have some really modern waste-water treatment kit. As a result, the treated waste-water we put back into the North Saskatchewan river is cleaner than the input fresh-water we take out of said river. So logically, the question becomes, why don’t we feed that clean waste-water back into the input stream? They do on the International Space Station.
Well, the reason is that humans aren’t rational (rationality is just a tool we sometimes use), so politics isn’t logical, so it doesn’t happen. Logically, these decisions should be left up to engineers, but people aren’t rational.
This will cause a shit wind a blowing. I smell the putrid breezes already of this gaseous mess of political origin. We all know crap flows down hill, but who would have though we would celebrate a day devoted to not flushing our spoor away?
What a turd of a day. This may rival the “Big Stink” of Victorian England
But the water problem persisted despite these building visions for the Thames. In 1858, the river or the Great Stink as it was called was so bad that the sittings at the House of Commons had to be abandoned. By the middle of 19th Century, the rise in sewage carried into the Thames via the Fleet river killed off all the fish, and consequently all the birds that lived off them.
http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/external/la21/articles/stink.htm
As with the Liberal Party, the biggest chunks will float to the top.
From what I have been told the city waste systems have been designed over time to handle the waste as efficiently as possible. If we were to reduce the amount of water significantly, the solid wastes would not reach the treatment plant, as well the water is needed for proper treatment. Maybe if it plugged then we could call these ecotoiletarians in to give the system an enema. Just deserts.
Not only is this a stupid idea, it’s disgusting & completely impractical in Canada. Oh wait, I forgot Global Warming will prevent the sh!t from freezing. Too bad I bought all those carbon credits!
You know, I’ve tried to be a good, environmentally-responsible fellow. Back about fifteen years ago, I replaced five toilets in the two places that I owned in Silicon Valley. Replaced toilets that required nineteen liters to flush with toilets that require six liters. Now I’m supposed to get rid of those? Nothing is ever good enough for The People Who Know What’s Best for the Rest of Us.
Edmonton has a dirty river to start with ,high silt load.
The effluent is to salty to put back in without dilution, and a pee recycle system for 8 on the ISS is 50million
“These “experts” are not privy to knowledge…”
Was that pun intentional?
It’s not just silt load, there’s a lot of cow piss too, but there’s no cow piss in our treated waste-water, not even human piss. And of course it’s $50M: on the ISS. The point is: we already have one. It’s sunk cost. Go ahead, dilute it; it’s still less input stream cleaning.
Still, I can see other problems, perhaps there might be a build-up of pharmaceutical residues in the waste-water. The real problem is that we don’t have the infrastructure to keep our consumption-, sewage-, and storm-water streams separate, both on the input and output quality-control and usage sides.
Nevertheless, over time, water-flow infrastructure has to be replaced. Perhaps it’s not too soon to be starting to use modern technology to build new infrastructure that keeps those streams separate.
Who pray tell are these so called experts? We went through this in the evolutionary process, back in the days of Sears and Eatons where recycling was something everyone did and the Chistmas Wish Book was a true joy to receive in the mail. Tax the air for cabon to feed these experts who don’t seem to know shlt and definately don’t know the speed that needs to be achieved when answering nature’s call at -40C using the afforementioned Wish Book in the outhouse befor all systems freeze up.
Well, the reason is that humans aren’t rational (rationality is just a tool we sometimes use), so politics isn’t logical, so it doesn’t happen. Logically, these decisions should be left up to engineers, but people aren’t rational.

===========================================
Vit, I beg to differ, as I’v worked with too many of these arrogant fools and they ain’t too much more rational than the politicians:-))))
now I propose that we run ONE large pipe across Kanada into which we put all the toilet flushings, and have outlets in parliament hill, and in every one of these institutions of higher larning
I just hope this doesn’t catch on in Calgary. If Calgarians stop flushing their toilets, Medicine Hat will have no drinking water.
That’s because you’re not rational, GYM.
Edmonton has a dirty river, high silt load.
The sewage effluent is too salty to recycle directly.
The ISS pee cycler is 50million for a cliental of 8
North Battleford used that idea of taking their city water from DOWNSTREAM from where their sewage ran out.It worked for a while till the system had a hiccup. The engineer that designed it and the people that approved it should be in jail for murder.
There’s part of the sentence missing:
“Experts in the employ of non-flushing toilet manufacturers call for the end of flushing toilets on World Toilet Day.”
See? Now its completely sensible.
Not so much any more wrt to Halifax harbour Hard Right.
It used to be that if you were duty on board one of the ships on a Friday or weekend that you could tell how “active” the people of Halifax were the night before by the number of…….. well you get the idea… floating by the ship.
These days you just don’t see them anymore.
The clean up ain’t the best and I still don’t think we got our money’s worth, but it is a lot better.
On another note, working in a building full of techs, technologists, BScs, masters and Doctorates you would think toilet and urinal flushing would be within their grasp. Not so much.
Some places are way ahead of these tell everyone what to do 24/7 (Marxist) turkeys. Of course using freshly produced crap on crop lands has a few pollution and soil condition drawbacks. Another one is death from ecoli. Also winter tomatoes from certain countries also give you a bit of a hint that things like this get complicated unless you enjoy their “peculiar” aftertaste.
No wonder this is such a concern of the left, the most interesting part of every one of them disappears with each flush.
You all missed the so-typically hand-wringing Leftist approach to the problem:
“New toilet tax proposed
There have already been calls by Australian experts to reduce the amount of water wasted through toilet flushing with a proposed new toilet tax.”
There’s a link to
“HOUSEHOLDERS would be charged for the amount of water they flushed down the drain under a radical new blueprint to cut consumption, the Sunday Mail reports.
…
A brainchild of two leading water experts, the plan was presented to State Parliament in Adelaide on Friday.”
Brainchild???? Experts?????
Back to the thread:
“Adelaide University’s Water Management professor Mike Young said the tax would encourage people to take shorter showers, recycle washing machine water or connect rainwater tanks to internal plumbing.”
Why go half-measures? Let’s all take baths only in the spring. (Or fall, if that’s more convenient for those Down Under.)
Dr. Mengele Suzuki suggested we spread our nightsoil with donkeys aka Cuba as a measure of sustainable agriculture. he and his other lieberal overloads would soon have us back to the stone age while he relaxed in his 5 million dollar mansion along kitsalano beach.
Hannibal Lectern, ‘don’t think the Liberals have enough buoyancy to even be floating turds at this point.
Wonder how the environment “experts” like Gore and Suzkooki feel about separating the pee from the poo and keeping their powder dry?
Perhaps Iggy was onto something, ahead of the curve, when he was all taken with the fact Puffins hide their poop and advocating Liberals should have the Puffin as a mascot.
World Toilet Day – As the kids say, it’s da shit!
World Toilet Day – As the kids say, “it’s da shit!”
Y’know… if flush toilets were to be banned along with incandescent lightbulbs and stuff, the Liberals wouldn’t be affected, as, after all, they stow their crap… and, as for incandescent lightbulbs, they don’t apply to Liberals, as, we well know, there ain’t no incandescent lightbulbs ever suddenly appearing above their heads, signifying bright ideas, y’know… so they won’t know what they’re missing…
What’ll be banned next? Somewhere, someone is plotting to ban something else… my, but how evil! What, will they next ban toilet paper to save the trees? What’s stopping them? After all, these folks are sadists, enjoying making life ever more and more inconvenient for everyone…
